I have owned a LOT of different piezo/magnetic electric guitars: 1998 Parker NiteFly SA, Carvin AE185, Line 6 Variax 300, and now have owned four different James Tyler Variax guitars and I currently own a 1999 Parker MidiFly. This is technology that is widely overlooked, especially in the P&W market, and I believe if more people had experience with these hybrids they would understand how much benefit they can get from it. The JTV’s retuning ability alone would be a game changer! Trust me, I cheat by using that all the time! This Emerald sounds amazing in all examples. You pay more up front for the technology but you get so much bang for your dollar.
I have one! The 35th out of the factory. Black quilted maple. Acoustically I have struggled with it (I also have a RainSong Black Ice Jumbo and an Emerald X30, so the sound is extremely different of course) but I do like it overall!
Have a Koa Virtuo also and it’s my go to performance guitar. Play it mostly in acoustic mode in a worship setting. I’ve never had feedback issues and the plugged in acoustic tone is better than many A/E guitars out there. Love it.
Meh. These platforms (Taylor T5, Fender AcoustiSonic, Anderson Crowdster, etc.) end up trying to do so many things that they actually do nothing very well. Not having played this particular guitar, but only listened to the demo, I'd say the same of it. Nothing about any aspect of this guitar wowed me. I'd rather just have a Martin D-28 and an ES-335.
Kiesel (Carvin previously) guitars has been doing electrics with acoustic piezo pick ups for a longgggg time. I have no experience but it would be neat to see an A/B of the two options
I appreciate the build quality and reliability of the guitar but the overdriven tones aren't great. They sound really muddy - is it due to the hollow construction?
The T5z + Helix when mastered can stand in for a whole room full of guitars and amps. Its my worship workhorse setup atm. There may be better ducks and beavers out there but the platypus still has its place! The old saying goes "Beware the man with 1 gun(guitar), he can probably use it"😂
Not bad, but the pickups overall just sound too "pluck" sensitive. It has a lot of complexity. Not sure how well this would play on stage. Lots of sound options, but very complicated. I really like the PRS SE video you did a year ago.
Thanks for doing this video Brian. Contrary to some of the peanut gallery comments - I think the guitar is aesthetically very cool. It is definitely an innovative approach. Since I received my Virtuo, I now take only one guitar to a gig or to worship. What are the chances of you guys creating a patch for the Virtuo that has both electric and piezo snapshots (for the Helix)? I am playing mostly through your Ventoux patch which sounds great with this guitar. For traveling, nothing better than a composite guitar!
I'm new and ignorant about electric guitar. I have a jay t simulated sg. With vox ad15vt amp. Is this a versitile setup for P&W? If not, what is the best setup for low cost? I see so much guitar candy and opiniins i get lost in wondering if i made a good choice with my SG double humbucker.
Imagine, you’re a volunteer at your church. You don’t get paid to play Sunday mornings and have a family to provide for. Nevermind that, spend $3k+ and you can have a guitar that will do everything just okay but nothing super well. Btw, this video is not a paid sponsorship, but they do not have to return the product as it was a product sent for free to review. Nothing in the review is biased as they have not spent money on this product to review as it has been sent to them to review for channel content.
Just because we make a review on a guitar doesn’t mean we believe everyone should buy that guitar. If you can’t afford or don’t want a $3000 guitar, simply don’t buy one. We’ve made lots of videos on more budget friendly (and more expensive) guitars as well.
How do you know the guitar is not on loan and has to be returned? This is actually not specified in this video. I watched another review video from KDH and he's very specific mentioning the guitar was for him on loan and was to be returned to the company - at the end of the day it's nearly 5 grand!
It sounds fine, but so do thousands of other guitars... and most guitars can cover other styles anyway.... but man.. that guitar is ugly.... and that is ok. Looks aren't everything... but I'd feel sad playing it, ha.... as far as the piezo, that wasn't really great... just switch guitars and play a much better sounding acoustic.
Ok well I did play it clean in several of the examples. But also almost all of recorded music after the 60’s might disagree with your statement 🤷🏻♂️😅 Thanks for watching!
What a nice, relaxed, no nonsense, well conveyed demo. The instrument is very impressive. Thank you.
Hello from England, I have one of these guitars, brilliant, a keeper forever. I Love it.
This is by far the best explanatory video I’ve seen for this guitar. Thank you.
Got my Virtuo back in August before I noticed you got one. I absolutely love it. Got a GR-55 as well and it's lot of fun to play with.

There is actually a 3rd push pull! The Peizo vol knob also is push/pull giving you some additional tone options.
I have one! The 35th out of the factory.

When you say Acoustically you have struggled with it , Do you mean the piezo acoustic sound ?
My Godin LGTX does acoustic very well and has Seymour Duncan’s to handle the electric side.
NICE, i want one! 😳🥺😭
I saw that in the Plexi tone match video and wondered what it was. It sounds awesome!

Are you using acoustic or electric strings?
@@DavidEidelberg I’m using D’Addario XS Acoustic strings. 11-52 I believe. It’s not near me at the moment.
@@Heartsofworship88 I think Acoustic strings will make the difference, but I understand they don’t work well with the electric pick ups

exactly. These types of guitars cost as much as one nice acoustic and one nice electric combined lol
Meh is right. Sounds like it was being played through an empty box of Kraft Dinner.
Yep... this thing isn't out teleing a tele... or strating a strat.... or rocking an LP style... it is just fairly good at certain things.
Can do pretty much everything.... except look good 😅😂
*I know this is a subjective POV ✌🏼
Yea I agree like the wood is beautiful but that body shape is mid
Subjective in the sense that you are universally correct, haha.
Ugly is right
It is subjectively ugly.... and no... the wood isn't even great looking.
I wish I could afford this guitar. Just holding it for a bit would be a special occasion. If I hit the lottery you can expect my order within 1 hour
@ 14:45 I spit my water!!!!😂
Helpful. Thank you. Definitely sounds great. Only question would be, Is it top-heavy?
I want some iommi pickups in an Emerald and maybe I will think about it.
Kiesel (Carvin previously) guitars has been doing electrics with acoustic piezo pick ups for a longgggg time. I have no experience but it would be neat to see an A/B of the two options
Parker, Hamer (did it first), Rick Turner and so many others too. Cole Clark has a new one out too.
I appreciate the build quality and reliability of the guitar but the overdriven tones aren't great. They sound really muddy - is it due to the hollow construction?
Would love to see you do a review on the Taylor T5Z which is marketed as both acoustic and electric as well. More so than this Virtuo in my opinion.

Ayeeeee new guitar to swell and shred with??
Oh sign me up!! 😍😍

I can't get a satisfactory plugged in acoustic tone likely due to the electric strings.
I'm new and ignorant about electric guitar. I have a jay t simulated sg. With vox ad15vt amp.

I would be afraid of uncontrollable feedback with gain.

Listed for $4320 USD .. so like $6000 CAD for me 😅😅😅
👀 dang
Yeah.... it ain't worth close to either of those prices....
No comments on the AC30? Not an easy amp to track down.

Stomp Box ruins guitar sound. Play clean...if you dare.

That’s one ugly Guitar that is capable of Making a Legendary amp sound like a Peavey Rage LOL. Meh is right.
Worship whom? God or Satan? It's not clear by the sounds you're making
Seriously? 😂🤦🏻♂️
