Really great summary! I love the idea that this isn’t some new, novel trend. It’s a philosophy rooted deeply in our own histories and in a basic understanding of suffering and justice and biology.
Love this vid! So happy to see and hear about the love and compassion for animals throughout the world and ages. I really dig the elementary school format! Much love.
There's major issues with few names mentioned in that list of those pro Animal Rights. I'll mention only one. Thomas Edison actually helped torture the elephant Topsy who was abused before murdered too. They even shot film footage of the act. It's literally shocking.

Happy anniversary Moby …..This is food for thought - people need to realise they are potentially in the final phase of the extinction of humanity and the human mindset needs to change - it needs to evolve into an authentic mindset of interconnectivity with race, creatures and the planet for the good of all. Most of us I am sure, have seen documentaries and heard discourses about animal abuses of all kinds. We have all also seen this year the signals of climate disaster - none of us can deny these - floods, wildfires, extreme heat, drought, extreme cold, animal species that have died out, habitat loss and globally people being displaced already. Do we want to envisage a future that is perpetuated on even more chaotic levels - or do we take every step, humanly possible, to try to avert the worst effects to come. Unfortunately, we have still to pay the price for our past actions - sea levels will continue to rise, weather will continue to be more unpredictable and violent. These are not a reason to give up, but to redouble our efforts to secure a future, if not for ourselves, for the generations to come. The UN needs to work on a global plan to get all countries to help relocate those who will inevitably be affected by global climate catastrophes - many through no fault of their own. Just as people migrate so will creatures robbed of their habitats; help needs to be afforded where it is needed - it should not be assessed by profit loss or gain. My husband is now a Vegan, I am now Vegan, and this is the most instant, sober and right decision we have ever made. Eating animals was never humane, necessary or beneficial to creatures or people; it cannot stop soon enough. Intensive 'farming' is endorsed by animal protection agencies, perpetuated by Industry, by government the world over, and has been, unwittingly for the most part, endorsed by ourselves - because of the deliberate non-disclosure of the facts and the lies of advertising, but more in that we chose not to see the ugliness of that hard truth. Abuse of animals, creatures, is sickening; year upon year they endure pain, suffering, death. It is a condoned holocaust of billions of sentient creatures that have as much a right to their existence as we do. This is not morally or ethically right in any way; as well as the cost to our planet now in crisis, there is the price to human kind, which is a loss of our humanity. It is scientifically proven that we do not need to eat meat to survive or to be healthy. We cannot keep waiting for governments to change and hope that they will act morally in the cause for animal rights - COP26 saw nothing mentioned about the massive input animal farming/agriculture/energy cost, methane, fertilizer, sewage and pesticide pollution, misuse of antibiotics and deforestation - we all need to be conscious and act now, for ourselves and what we believe to be right, and make a moral stand in whatever way we can to make a difference, to have no part in this chain - to break it! We need to be conscientious objectors - we need to be Vegan because it is morally and ethically right. We all understand the huge negative impact that the animal farming industry has on the animals themselves, and the harmful effect it must have on those who work in those environments. We all know now why our world needs to be vegan - we all need to act, hope and believe in our futures. Lucia R
Excellent. If you want to see the reality, look at the film/documentary "Earthlings" narrated by Joaquin Phoenix. Once you see that you will never want to eat meat again and I warn you, it is VERY cruel but reality.
who made this video? Pythagoras lived around 570-510 BCE. And the quote from da Vinci is not from da Vinci, it's from a novel about da Vinci titled "The Romance of Leonardo da Vinci.".
Don't forget the Syrian philosopher Al-Ma'arri, born in 973 CE, he wrote: Do not unjustly eat fish the water has given up, and do not desire as food the flesh of slaughtered animals, or the white milk of mothers who intended its pure draught for their young, not noble ladies. And do not grieve the unsuspecting birds by taking eggs; for injustice is the worst of crimes. And spare the honey which the bees get industriously from the flowers of fragrant plants; For they did not store it that it might belong to others, Nor did they gather it for bounty and gifts. I washed my hands of all this; and wish that I perceived my way before my hair went gray!
Thank you always Moby!!! How about Saint Francis of Assisi??? How did you leave him out …because its Christian (and not cool) ????? “Not to hurt our humble brethren is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission - to be of service to them wherever they require it.”
... and finally expoiting animals in the insides of Mr Hands. Outrageous! Karma was deservedly, animalically served therein by the entrammelled victim-steed slipping on the wet cobbles🐎 And as for the state of Leonardo da Vinci, moby was *wrong* regarding that one. Da Vinci liked to habitchually partake in a doughty sausage or two at times in his life and so did Michelangelo. Sausage fest tonight, anyone? 🦕

There seems to be some dispute about the accuracy of the Leonardo Da Vinci quote, even if it broadly reflects his beliefs about animals. He was probably a vegetarian rather than a vegan, from what we do know about him. After all, he sometimes painted on vellum and used animal hair brushes.
Congratulations for this good video, BUT: - Charles Darwin hunted and tasted many of the animals he catalogued and many more. - Thomas Alva Edision killed several poor animals by electrocuting them just to prove the danger of Tesla alternating current. Also his film company (Edison Studios) filmed the execution of Topsy the elephant by strangulation, poisoning and electrocution despite the oposition of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Not sure about the others, but I dont feel confortable with these characters in this interesting video. Go Vegan!
You said it yourself: they kill other animals for survival. Humans don't need to kill for survival, we are capable of meeting our dietary needs without ever having to eat meat. Nor do we need to keep animals in poor living conditions, trapped in cages too small for them, and overfed to the point where they can barely stand, only to be barbarically butchered, often times while they are still very much alive. As for providing employment to poor people, we could just as easily hire them for crop production, land management, and ecotourism.
