I don't have many heroes.....but if Moby is not one, I don't know who is.
I’m 37. I am considering becoming a vegetarian, it’s dawned on me and I feel overwhelmed at times that Livestock are being killed for human consumption. I just hate animal cruelty and animals suffering. Seeing Pigs and Cows feel joy and love makes me so happy, but it also just breaks me that I am a meat eater at present. I don’t know why I am writing this, but hoping some others may have been or are in my position.
I think that many, many people are in your position and we appreciate you sharing your thoughts and feelings here on our channel. As vegans, I think we all come to this point - a crossroads in our journey of life. Any small steps you take make a HUGE difference in not only your health, but also for animal lives and the environment. Maybe try Meatless Mondays at first or just a single meal per week (or per day) without animals products. Feeling pain and suffering are not the same thing. You need a pretty high level of self awareness to suffer.

I'm surprised that a philosophy major wouldn't distinguish between pain and suffering. They are not synonyms.
but why does that matter? animal can go through both, when a cow is hit with a bolt gun, it goes through pain and when a cow is seperated from its offspring, it goes through suffering.

Here's the issue I have with "animal rights." They have to be consistently held, or they don't really exist beyond gratifying sentiment. If you say they have the right to will, autonomy, etc., than those also have to be protected from other animals. You cannot say "it's just nature." Or tigers don't know any better because that would be a red herring.
what people are doing is evil.. they are harming and exploiting other living beeings. a tiger would not harm, exploitin or kill an other living beeing as simple, like people does. a tiger/lion takes only a life to satisfy his hunger. people are doing it in a evil and wasteful way...
We have moral agency. We can see what we do and reflect. Animals can't. When we create an industry that creates and kills half a trillion animals every year, by our own means, and purposefully, it makes sense to stop and look at that and say, wow, that's fucking terrible and terrifying, let's stop that. Vegans aren't holding animals accountable for things. We're holding us accountable for what we're doing now.

I had a cat that had 4 kittens and next morning there were 2 and a half kittens where she ate them. I had a dog that would kill everything in our yard, I had a pond and he would kill frogs for no reason, never eat anything but just kill it and leave it I guess out instinct. People who normally argue for animal rights have no actual experience with animals.
