      Yes, ham or bacon.
      I think of scalloped potato as creamy, with ham or bacon.
      I think that once cheese is added they become cheesey potatoes.
      I miss my Mom a lot, too. I miss all of my family who have gone on to be with The LORD, which is most of them.
      My Grandma, who cooked the scalloped potatoes, made her's with ham, too. Sometimes if she didn't have ham she would make them with bacon, which is good, too.

    I made this today and it was delicious! My husband told me that he didn't like au gratin potatoes but that he love these so that's saying a lot. The only thing I did differently was to cover for almost an hour because I don't have a mandolin so my potatoes weren't cut evenly. I wanted to make sure the thick sliced were cooked through. I also used half n' half instead of milk. Thank you for this recipe. It's going in my recipe book. :)

    Today I learned that table salt and kosher salt are not an equal 1:1 substitute 😂 My potatoes were SO SALTY when I used regular table salt. Cut the salt down by a third the second time around and it worked great with the regular table salt 👍

    The only thing I do different is soften onions in butter then add flour to make roué.

  • @GreekPackDragon
    @GreekPackDragon 3 года назад +6

    PRO TIP: Take the pan off the heat before you add in the cheese. Sometimes the cheese will separate from too much heat. The residual heat from making the roux will be more than enough to make the cheese melt AND incorporate together into the sauce.

    Thank you for being brief and to the point. When I want an idea off the web, I don't need a story about what happened yesterday, or anything about the cat. Great presentation.👏👏👏

    That's not how you make roux. You add the liquids slowly and incorporate them while mixing. If you don't do that you will get clumps and inconsistency. Other than that, great video.
