The onion & milk sauce looks like a delicious gravy (before the cheese) yum. I love every kind of potatoes (french fries are least favorite) as I only eat them when in a fast food restaurant & they are usually BLAH. This dish looks delicious!
I do mine about the same but it's easier to cut the potatoes in half and lay them on the flat side to slice, also I like dicing the onions because then you don't get long strings hanging from your mouth. When everything is ready to go in the baking dish I mix it all up in a big bowl and dump it in. Also I do a teaspoon of bouillon powder in 3 cups of milk and heat that. Toward the end of baking time I sprinkle more cheese and paprika on top. Just sayin', that's how I do it because I have no patience.
When I make scalloped potatoes, I slice onions just like you did, but I don’t sauté them. You can just place all the sliced potatoes and onions in the baking dish, then pour the sauce on top. It comes out delicious, and you don’t have to worry about running out of sauce. The sauce does cover all of the potato and onion mixture while cooking. Also, scalloped potatoes don’t have cheese, AuGratin potatoes do!! I looked it up a few days back as I wanted to know what the difference between the two was! You actually made AuGratin potatoes!! I’ve never tried using bouillon or Worcestershire sauce. I’m going to try both next time I make this dish. I bet your version has more flavor than mine does!! Good luck with your RUclips channel! It seems most of the cooking channels grow fast, so I hope yours does as well!! Yes, I subscribed! ❤❤❤ Blessings to you!
@terrilandry1313 Thank You So Much for your comment and for subscribing and watching my videos. You are absolutely right about the cheese. Traditional scalloped potato's do not include cheese in the recipe. I just like to add the extra flavor so I did add the cheese. It is not super cheesy it just added more creaminess that is why I just added a little. But your right a Au Gratin potato's include cheese in them. I will get an au gratin recipe up soon. And thank you for the tips on how you make yours, I appreciate it!

I find it shortens the baking time by par boiling the potatoes and while they are boiling I make a thin white sauce. Layer the potatoes, pour half the sauce to cover the potatoes. Add another layer of potatoes, the rest of the.e white sauce and sprinkle whatever grated cheese you like. Bake in the oven about 45 minutes or until a fork goes in . But easy on the onions. But I chop the onions finely. Or omit the onions
@@healthyrelationshipsquotes2422 Hi, yes you can make the night before. The next day take it out of the refrigerator for at least 5 to 10 minutes to get to like a little more room temperature. And then I would cook it covered in the oven at 325 degrees for 20 minutes. This way it can come up to the temperature without overcooking it, but of course taste it after that 20 minutes and see if it needs more time in the oven. You're just looking to get it warmed up and heated. That's how I would do it. I hope that helps.
This might be a silly question, but could you just dump the sliced potatoes into the sauce, mix it all and then dump it all in the casserole dish? Seems like it would be less fuss. Or would that mess something up?
@persnickety5311 Not a silly question at all. Yes, I feel like you can dump the potato's in the sauce and add to the baking dish. You will just need to make sure potato's are layered though. As it cooks the sauce will bubble and cook the potato's. The only thing I wouldn't do is actually place the potatoes in the baking dish and dump the sauce over that. Because when you're layering the potato's it you should have a little bit of sauce in between unless you're cooking it hassle back which that means the potatoes are standing straight up then you can dump the sauce over that way. Hope that makes sense. Thank you so much for your question and for watching ☺️

You’re welcome I wanna make it. I was just saying because I was looking at my recipes in my book. I got this book from a library. That’ll be so good cause I food on the first get some more groceries.
@@Frances-ed6cy that is so great, I didn't even think to look for cookbooks at the library. I was actually at the library yesterday my kids needed to go and I was looking around. I use to buy cookbooks all the time I just haven't bought one in years. So the library is a good option ☺️
I will fix this scalloped potatoes recipe with fried smoked pork chops and green beans and cole slaw.❤

The onion & milk sauce looks like a delicious gravy (before the cheese) yum. I love every kind of potatoes (french fries are least favorite) as I only eat them when in a fast food restaurant & they are usually BLAH. This dish looks delicious!
@@marilynmccormick3731 Thank you ☺️
I do mine about the same but it's easier to cut the potatoes in half and lay them on the flat side to slice, also I like dicing the onions because then you don't get long strings hanging from your mouth.
@barbgklett728 Thank you for watching and thank you for your comment!The way you make it Sounds good, I have to try it😊
Looks like gravy!
Be careful about your hBd so close to the food you are stirring. Suggest longer handle wooden spoon so you don't scrape metal to metal.
@@lindahuffman6329 ☺️ thank you! Your right! I just got some rubber spatula's so I don't scrape the metal
Great Video I hope your channel is a great success as we need what I call “Real Cooks” no airs and graces just lovely food. Watching with my grandsons in 🏴 United Kingdom. You’re sauce before adding potatoes would be lovely over fish or with chicken in pasta 😋

@carolemiller6854 Thank you for watching and for your comment ☺️
Great idea to par boil, quicker cook time.
Thanks for the tip!

Is it possible to cook this the night before? How to reheated? Thank you, It looks delicious
I would love your recipes

I do wash the potatoes after peeling also
Yes I rinse the potatoes as well you're right helps with starch
Why are people calling this scalloped potatoes…if you add cheese, they are au gratin.
Thank you, I've been saying that for years. Potatoes, onions, salt and pepper, milk bake it yum.
Au gratin means with breadcrumbs….
That is a big complaint of mine.
@No1grandma74
According to wickapedia au gratin is adding cheese or bread crumbs to brown
Yeah!! 🥔
This looks great! I'm going to make this!
@mayahubbard6291 Thank you! 🥰
My mom always added 1 large can of corn in the mix. Maybe to make more for a family of 8!!! 😂
@jacquelinebourque8041
That's great, why not add corn! I know about big families ☺️
Looks yummy !
@williamleopold507 Thank you ☺️
This might be a silly question, but could you just dump the sliced potatoes into the sauce, mix it all and then dump it all in the casserole dish?
This looks amazing! Thank you!
I am starving now! lol I will be making this in the next week or so! ❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦

Very Delicious watching all the way from Canada every one need onions not too much in foods as some

My husband rinses 4 times. His mashed potatoes are best ever..
That's great! My husband loves to cook also. I love mashed potatoes!
@@whatsonmyplate-olgapapag he uses Yukon golds and skims starch from the water while they cook then uses an electric mixer and one lb of butter for the 5lbs of potatoes it's good we don't have them often
Awesome thank you!
I will have to do that when I make my mashed potatoes. When the water is boiling with the potatoes in it I love love to add two cloves of garlic. And when you drain the potatoes you mash up that garlic in there. It's delicious

Why? What the heck is wrong with old recipes? Yes, real scalloped potatoes have NO cheese, NO worchester sauce and absolutely NO garlic!
Your cooking is asome

A food processor slices faster! Do we need to watch all of that? Ditto for the onions. A garlic press is a must in even a basic kitchen.
