Thanks for putting up the video. Can I know the size of the coupler from the window regulator motor to the snowblower shaft or the actual shafts diameter? My window regulator motor only got 8 mm diameter shaft. Do you need to make a special shaft to fit? Thanks.
Just see that video and foud it interesting. I have a D160 but 2017 and the snowblower assembly is not exactly the same. Do you thing i could just raise a little more the bracket you have made to fit my d160. ( Not too many room in front of the tractor ? ).I have bought the power lift kit from John Deere .They have 2 models and none of them fit my d160 with the snowblower.
I made my own lift mechanism, didn't even look into a John Deere lift kit. I think you could modify the design to allow the blower to lift a little higher, but so far the 4 or 5 inches of lift seems to be working for me. Good luck with yours and let me know how it turns out
@@tomlafrance9786 thanks Tom I’ll send you a picture when I complete mine, going to attempt to use a linear actuator instead of a winch, let you know how it works.
You could buy a already threaded bar to fit through the hole the handle came out. You can go to Home Depot. Buy four nuts to thread on to the bar. Of course two of the nuts will hold the bar in place the other two you will use to hold the winch hook in place. Check out on you tube la 165 with winch. Give you an idea how I did it instead of drilling. But Tom is a genius. This is a awesome idea he came up with.
Thanks for this. I am gonna do this on my Craftsman. Love the wheels on the blower. I wish they put adjustable ones like on push mowers. I leave an inch in my driveway as its ground asphalt while my neighbor wants a clean sweep on her asphalt driveway. Would be easy if lever adjustable. My blower is heavy so I will incorporate a limit switch maybe to stop the winch so I don't bend anything. Do these winches freewheel
Hey, thanks for this video. I am now gathering supplies to build this same winch assembly. I do have a question though . To what do you attach the end of the winch? Like where on the blower to lift it? Thanks.
I used a piece of 3/8 round bar that I slipped into a piece of 1/2 pipe.I drilled a hole in each end of the round bar to put a cotter pin through to hold it in place. on the centre line of the pipe I welded an Eye Bolt to attach the winch cable. On the snow blower there was an existing hole that I slid the round bar through as well as the pipe. I hope this helps. If not let me know and I will send pics
+Tom Lafrance Hi Tom, great job on this setup! I'd like to do the same to my L series and snowblower. I also was wondering how you anchored the winch to the blower. Did you ever end up getting a pic of the blowers winch mount? I'd really like to see it. Thanks, -Sam
on the frame assembly you put together, the lower support brace for the winch. What are the two notches about 2 inches from each side for? Thank you in advance.
I found that the lower horizontal flat bar below the winch was about 1/2 inch too low. the notches allowed the snow blower to raise that extra 1/2 inch. I have since removed the horizontal bar and welded it back in higher
Hi Tom, I seen the new video you made of removing the hood and I tried the same thing and it works perfectly. I got all the materials I need to make the winch assembly now its just getting the time to assemble it. When I get it all put together I'll make a video and send it to you.
Tom, I gotta say your a genius. Thanks for posting the video with the measurements, it sure makes a difference. It makes my task a lot easier. I mentioned earlier about removing the bracket to tip the hood up. Did you use 2 pins after or do you still remove 2 bolts to tip it ahead?
Good morning Sandy, I still use all bolts to hold the winch bracket in place. I did post a new video to show how I remove the hood for servicing with the winch assembly in place. Hope this will help. Have you tried the project yourself? If so let me know how it worked out.

@@tomlafrance9786 I am returning the power lift kit toajohn deere dealer and i will make my own with your measures except a little higher .Thanks
Tom, how and where did you attach the winch to the snowblower?
Although it's a little difficult to see in the video, I used the location that the original shaft (manual Lift ) was located.

That's great. Looking forward to seeing it
