This guy got it right! I watched his video, and all of the other videos on RUclips, and all of the others fell short. This video was right on. I used his advice, and it worked perfectly. Not everyone has a wheel puller but I did and it worked great.
You can also leave the main pulley on and "just" remove the retaining clip. Do this by hacksawing the little carriage bolt flush with the nut and once off, grinding or filing the dome off the carriage bolt. At this time you can file the bolt a little shorter. AS DESIGNED(!!), the original bolt is too long to be removed with the belt and pulley in place. Don't worry, you'll still have plenty of threads to hold the clip tight when reassembled. This sawing/filing/grinding is a one-time effort and takes about ten minutes. Once the bolt is shortened, the clip can be removed quickly on all future belt replacements, which will be many over the life of your blower.
Is your large pully warped? Looks like it's warped when its spinning. May just be the camera. Also, why did you have to replace the belt more than once in a year? Mine was not tracking right and caused the belt to be eaten up just after a couple uses. Dealer worked on it and so far this winter the belt is good. Thanks for the video. I'm sure I will be replacing the belt at the end of the year.
Hello Greg, yes my large pully is warped. Hence the reason I need to replace my belt once a year. Local dealer wants $150 for a new one, trying to find one used or cheaper. Thanks for watching!
Considering these components should be inspected so you don't cause injury to you or somebody else. I don't think that ten minutes to change a belt.Is that big of an inconvenience. The lazy world we live it😂
I bought a brand new John Deere X370 this season with the 44" snowblower attachment. I have a total of 15 hours on it, and the snowblower's drive belt sheared off (John Deere Part No. M174506; 78" in length). Had I known ahead of time what a poor design this is to change a simple belt, I would have literally considered purchasing a different brand.
How do you like the 44? Just bought a used x570 with 44. No snow in southern Maine yet, so have not blown anything yet. Keep getting tempted by used 47 around, but just size envy I think. Hehe. I just do residential not commercial.
Is it necessary to have the pulley guide on? I don't have the pulley tool and I'm not just gonna go on buy one for this? like Shirley a bunch of people run theirs without the pulley guide?
Help needed! Followed the video to replace the belt on a used snowblower. We cannot get the pulley back onto the shaft. It does not seem to have enough "play" to straighten out enough to fit over the slot. No obvious damages or obstructions. Spent a couple hours so far on it. Anyone have suggestions?
@@thehandyoutdoorsman9014 Thanks. I'm pretty sure it's been lined up correctly but the pulley has to go in at angle to get past that guide bracket. In your video, you just jiggle the pulley a bit until it's parallel with the gear box and it goes right in. Mine gets stuck at an angle and I can't get it back onto the post.
Sir, ive never had greater issues with apiece of equipment like i have this thing, either the belt breaks or the belt comes of the pulleys. Can someone please explain to me what heck is going on??
@@thehandyoutdoorsman9014 Is the belt retainer around the large pulley absolutely necessary during operation? If it is not, seems to me that loosening the retainers on the smaller pulley would be the only necessary thing to mechanically loosen. The belt should then be able to be looped in without removing frame. An interesting belt scenario for sure. I don't own green stuff myself though. Thanks for the video.
Don't remember where I got mine , have had it for years. Found one like it on Amazon www.amazon.com/Arcan-Hardened-Inch-Gear-Puller/dp/B07Z1FKVKS/ref=sr_1_5?crid=3AHNA14DFH6Z2&keywords=gear%2Bpuller&qid=1674173230&sprefix=gear%2Bpuller%2Caps%2C154&sr=8-5&th=1
Does anyone have the part number for the non tensioner pulley? Mine sized up and caused me to burn belts out. I ordered a v idler pulley. Am118447 and its wrong.
First off, THANK YOU! great video.. I, too, saw the other videos and thought there must be an easier way.. and then I found your video.. I then went to follow your guidance and found out my belt retainer bracket was already missing! I couldn't find a replacement online, so I decided to make my own out of some scrap steel i had, but modified it so that there would be no need to remove the pulley in the future! I'm not sure if this link works as I've never made a youtube video.. but here goes a link to my video for installing my replacement / modified belt retainer.. hopefully, it works like i think it will! (Note: my belt was hopping off, figured belt was stretched or worn out and went to replace it when i realized the belt retainer was missing, so I installed a new belt along with making this belt retainer.) ruclips.net/video/eY2RRg4qr9o/видео.htmlsi=RL-vEAFsA0U3y2Tn

Yes sir thank you very much for the video it is the easiest of all I have seen.
Havent tried it yet. But I have no doubt it will work. Lots easier than the other vids I watched . Thanks!
Thank you!
It's the best video that i have seen yet hands down.
Thank you!
WOW! I wish I would have seen this video 2 days ago when I replaced my belt, instead of the other ones. This is so much simpler!
Well now you know what to do when you have to change it in a couple of years. Thanks for watching and commenting!

2007 x300 stalls once break released?
John Deere makes everything complicated. you would think after making tractors for 100 years the design would allow for an easier change

So far I like it, way better then my old style "push" snow blower
@@MrStangdawg I agree with you on the belt issues, hence the video on how to change it out 😀

It would obviously make things a lot simpler if you don't need that..

Make sure the "key" is lined up properly. It may be binding and preventing the pully from going back on.

If it wasn't for that side retainer, nothing would have to be completely removed. Seems like there ought to be even a simpler way?
I agree, perhaps something off of the black bracket that was removed?

@@jasonbabcock2742 Not sure, never ran it without the clip. From what I can tell it helps it from slipping off the pully.
