1st season with snowblower, winch and power chute rotator
Thanks for the video! Do you have any information on how the belts are set up with the PTO? I have the same snowblower that mounts way up under the mower like yours and I have a D130. I was able to mount the snowblower and get the belts on but I cant figure out how to use the PTO to engage and disengage the snowblower. It currently runs the snowblower every time the mower is on and I would rather not have it always spinning. I cant find any manuals online for this style JD snowblower only the newer one that hooks up to the front only. Im not sure if my PTO cable is not compatible with this model or what to do to correct this. Thanks
You should sell those 😂
That’s amazing! John Deere should hire you as a cab design engineer! lol. You do great work
Thanks, no calls from John Deere yet lol
where did you get that cab??? who makes it???
I fabricated it myself. I have another video that explains how I built it.
You can buy universal ones too
Whatever you do don't Fortune into the snow because if you do bogged down like that it won't work and it'll plugged in plug the shootout I know I've done that my name is John Deere but it does the same thing as yours does slow down and you got to go really slow with it otherwise it won't work and the other thing you got to watch for smoking of the belt if you do that you'll have a good luck going slow with it you will be fine where's that
Slow and steady and you won't have to shovel lol
Can you do video on the chute rotation install?
Hi, I have another video that shows the rotator measurements and set up. Got my rotator motor from an old Toyota power window motor. I've run this same little motor for about 10 years. Still works without issues
@@tomlafrance9786 hmm. I looked for a title. I'll look again.found it at about over midway of the winch install vid.. ruclips.net/video/mNVetyYgvdU/видео.html
@@BHShaman let me know how you make out. Good luck
@@tomlafrance9786 too much fab for me. In the other video it looked prefab. You did a great job.
I have a Scotts S2554 by JD. I think your tractor might be the same as my tractor
Where did you get the pole for light?
It is just a piece of electrical conduit. I don't use it anymore, I put a rear facing light on the back, and leave it on always.
Hi Tom What did you use for anchor on the top of the cab? And how is it installed? Thank you
Hi Daniel The frame of the cab is made of 3/4 tubing, I added an extra piece across the centre of the roof and to that I attached a 3/8 eye bolt. I attach the overhead hoist to this eyeball. I don't remove the eye bolt anymore. Hope this helps
@@tomlafrance9786 Excellent...and thank you for the quick response!!
Amazing cab
If you had plans for this, you could make a fortune! I would love to get ahold of anything you have from the fabrication!
Hi I'm afraid that other than the videos, I don't have any build plans. Pretty much designed it as I went along
Tom I was wondering if you still had the soft sided JD cab, and if so are you willing to sell it to me? Also where did you purchase the LED light fixtures you installed on the snowblower lift frame, trying to get all my ducks in order for an spring build Thanks Bill Odom Poplar Grove, Illinois
Sorry for the tardy reply, I sold the soft cab enclosure, it was a John deere part that you should be able to get from your JD dealer. I have another video that shows more of the winch assembly measurement. Send me a pic of how you made out.
Tom & Michelle First of all thanks for the video with he measurements of the frame you built, I also have a couple questions. #1) Do still have the soft side JD cab? and if so would you be willing to sell it to me? #2) Th the LED lights you added to the lift frame where did you purchase them (Amazon?) and can you email me the model # of the lights. Thanks for you help Bill Odom Popular Grove, Illinois
Hi Tom & Michelle I have a couple of questions, first of all thank you for the video with dimensions for the lift frame. #1 Do you still have the soft sided JD cab? And if so are you interested in selling it? #2 Where did you purchase the accessory LED lights you mounted on the lift frame? Can you email me the website and model # of the lights. Getting all my ducks in an order a spring build Thanks for your help Bill Odom Poplar Grove, Illinois
Hi Bill, I don't have the soft sided cab anymore. It sold pretty fast. I found the LED lights on Amazon, but I have seen them at Harbor Freight, reasonably priced.
Is the cab you installed available at John Deere or is it an aftermarket cab
These type of chains are available at John Deere
Tom another great video update
Tom, how and where did you attach the winch to the snowblower?
Although it's a little difficult to see in the video, I used the location that the original shaft (manual Lift ) was located.
@@tomlafrance9786 thanks Tom I’ll send you a picture when I complete mine, going to attempt to use a linear actuator instead of a winch, let you know how it works.
That's great. Looking forward to seeing it
Do you still have the tractor Tom ?
Yes still have this little tractor! It's still doing the job, and running great
Just see that video and foud it interesting. I have a D160 but 2017 and the snowblower assembly is not exactly the same. Do you thing i could just raise a little more the bracket you have made to fit my d160. ( Not too many room in front of the tractor ? ).I have bought the power lift kit from John Deere .They have 2 models and none of them fit my d160 with the snowblower.
I made my own lift mechanism, didn't even look into a John Deere lift kit. I think you could modify the design to allow the blower to lift a little higher, but so far the 4 or 5 inches of lift seems to be working for me. Good luck with yours and let me know how it turns out
@@tomlafrance9786 I am returning the power lift kit toajohn deere dealer and i will make my own with your measures except a little higher .Thanks
Very nice job!
Hello sir. Thanks for the advice I have the same unit as you. Just installed it last weekend but cannot figure out the spring system for the Belt pulleys. I contacted John Deere and they do not have a diagram on the Belt pulleys Spring location. Is it possible that you can take a screenshot or video of your spring system. You are the only one online that has this older set up for the snowblower. Thank you.
Please do a video on how you made the rubber/chain tire tracks
It seems like this is better than a 30 inch snow blower-but probably more likely to get stuck in snow and purchasing attachments and snow plow is pricey. You are also committed to using this type of riding lawnmower if you buy all that
good observations, I do use this little tractor year round. As far as blowing snow, it's much better than standing behind a snow blower and getting snow in the face lol. I have gotten stuck but usually my fault for pushing the little tractor to hard. You really need to know the limit of this machine to avoid damaging it. So far so good
Nice job, glad you realize that shooting snow up in the air doesn't give good results in a windy day
what would it cost for something like that?
Thanks for putting up the video. Can I know the size of the coupler from the window regulator motor to the snowblower shaft or the actual shafts diameter? My window regulator motor only got 8 mm diameter shaft. Do you need to make a special shaft to fit? Thanks.
Hello Tom, I am so impressed by what you have done here! I have an E 160 and I am looking to upgrade it with the winch assembly this year then the cab perhaps next year. iI have looked around the internet and your design is by far the best I have seen. Do you have a drawing or anything that shows me how I might make it?
I did make a video showing how I remove and install the blower assembly, I did include some measurements in the video. Hope this helps. Apologies for the tardy reply.
Although I have plow trucks. This is still cool to watch.
Well done video. Always satisfying to view the tractor itself in action and long view allows to see the work being accomplish. However a warning light on top should be considered considering that you are also going on the roadway.
Hi Denis, at one time I did have a rotating light on top but now I rely on the front and back LED lights. I have been considering putting something back on especially if you are clearing snow in the evening when it's dark. Good catch.
It's a good idea. Somebody when asked why he kept his lights on even on clear days, said that it was a safety feature as he has snowmobilers in his area sometimes travelling at high speed.
Hey Tom! Nice video! Kindly share how you mounted the LED lights/winch on the front and back of the tractor. Also, any information on the weather enclosure top? I'm interested in one! Thanks!
Hi Durbin Hunter, I have posted a video on the winch and light mods, and the cab is home built. John Deere supplies a soft enclosure cab. You can check out the other video for more details, and let me know if you need anything else
All great videos sir... just got this blowers for my D140... looking to do something similar w/ the winch and lights👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Tom, Where did you buy a U frame in order to install front led lighting? Kindly share the information.
This is a perfect example of how to maintain your equipment.....great job on that cab I remember when you built it held up very well..
How to find your other vids
Could you give more info on your blower lift kit
I have a JD x540 and wonder what a set-up like you have would cost a guy..
Never really calculated the cost!
That cab is fricken sexy......I'm an IH cub guy, but I give you props...even if that color green makes me spit up a lil in my mouth....
I love, "color green makes me spit up a little in my mouth" Made me smile, stay true to your brand my friend..
You need to patten that design for that cab, looks just like factory!! Awesome job!
Could you figure a way to put a heater in a x739 i have a soft cab i bought it new had to cut it down so it would fit in my trailer it had a soft clear window i made angles and was able to attach a really nice windshield with safety glass had a place out it in the channels i installed but i would like to get heat inside of it I did buy a 500 watt station but i tried a 350 watt heater only worked for about 5 seconds was too much but i did order a my heat 200 watt heater that a video shows it will work with the Aeivsny 500 watt station.
Only way to get some nice heat I think is with a liquid cooled engine !! Sure would be nice, however being out of the wind is great
Looks awesome great job
Thanks 👍
Wow!! I love that cab. I'm jealous. You did a beautiful job. Maybe charge and build them for cash..I would buy one for sure.
Maybe one day!
I have the same tractor I lived in Ottawa region but in winter the choke have to be on to running smoothly do you have this problem Serge
Hi Serge, it should run smoothly with no choke once it's warmed up. Start with the easy stuff, clean air filter, clean fuel filter, then maybe a tune up! I do park in a heated garage so it does start easy because it's warm.
Just posted my message and the next video does show me the inside of your cab. Very nice, but I would like to see how you attach the winch control and I still would appreciate what kind of bit you are using. Thanks
I really like the way you installed your winch, and the tilt was genius. It would be nice to have a shot of the inside of the cab as to how you installed the controls. As like you, I don't have a welder and having just turned 76, I don't intend to experiment with one. I would be interested on what kind of drill bit you have been using, as the one I have are time consuming. Thanks
My dad is 70 and has one of these tractors here in Ontario.. dont want him shoveling snow
That’s pretty common with atvs with plows some trucks use winches for there plows too
I had one just about like this one in the video but then I made my own steel cab With wipers and Lights. Wheel weights ,front frame for a winch lift.Went out for two hours of snow removal the transmission would heat up so hot it was slip so I went to two transmissions and I put a third much heavier transmission in a K 66 .seem to solve the problem of overheating but I sold the blower and just kept the tractor for mowing lawns and rolled lawns . I purchase a Massey Ferguson GC 1705 diesel tractor four-wheel-drive with a front mounted blower, homemade cab and a homemade blade on the back with my weights. The D series John Deere have the same K 46 transmission that most small lawn have. Made for lawn mowing and light duty work only .take my word save your money and buy a real tractor
I had one of these for five years went through three transmissions with the same blower and 160 D John Deere blower transmission heats up after a half an hour gets so hot there is no cooler on the transmission I have replace it with a diesel Massey Ferguson four-wheel-drive .will D 160 has a K 46 transmission it .is a sealed piece of junk .First transmission lasted 130 hours a second 80 hoursand I am on a K 66 transmission and it is still going .A much heavier transmission but I had to do all the changeover myself .was easy.I built my own cabin and reinforce the blade and waits for the tractor but blowing and blowing snow for bl
Hi Tom, what model number is that snowblower? I am looking for one for my 2015 D170. I see that there are different blowers that mount different depending on the year and etc ... Thanks
Would you sell your hood to me? mine got stolen
