I like when he says "panga panga"...
Why does this version seem to sound so much better than the Ibanez version?
With the exact same pickups
I have one for 8 months now... All i can say is that is very versatile bass.
The active eq ensures that I can shape the tone to my needs, in studio or at the gig/concert...
Only investment is new strings :D
Cool! I've been looking for a 5-string to compliment my Schecter P-bass Plus. This thing is amazing and costs a grand. My Schecter was made at the same factory and I'm very pleased with it.
love your videos, very precise about the corts so far. hope u do more on the new cort basses.
Working on it!

Loves my Cort Artisan A5 Plus SCMS OPN. Once I got the individual bridges' intonation and truss rod/neck relief set to my preferences, it's a total immersion to play this bass for hours.
Hi Kevin, is there any chance you could do me a massive favour? I own the same bass and have some volume balance issues (A-string is noticable louder than the other strings). I discovered that in my bass the MK1 6-string version pickups are installed (there is a little sticker under the pickups). If by any chance you could have a look if in your bass you have the 5- or 6-string pickups, that would be much appreciated. Cheers!
Hey @@tobiasgleitz - I took a look at my Cort Artisan A5 Plus SCMS pickups and the answer is: Yes, there are two Bartolini MK1-6STR pickups installed. Ever since day one of owning this bass, I've noticed the A string signal was louder than the other four strings' signal. To compensate, I adjusted the EQ on my Eden WTX-264 amp to find a balance in volume across the spectrum. I also spent some time adjusting the individual bridges for intonation and string height to get everything dialed in. That said, the A string is still decidedly louder in general.
Bartolini MK1-5STR pickups exist. Now I want to know why Cort put Bartolini MK1-6STR pickups in this 5-string bass. I'm going to contact Cort directly and also the distributor I got this Artisan A5 Plus SCMS from. Are you going to bring this pickup matter to Cort's attention as well?
Hey Kevin, thanks for your answer! I've written an email to Cort via the 'Contact us' form on their website earlier today but haven't got an answet yet.
I found a few websites where it specifically says that the A5 Plus SCMS pickups are the MK1-5. I also found a few pictures of the MK1-5 pickups and it definately says "5STR" on their back. Also, the 5-string version has the same dimensions as the 6 string version, so I'm wondering if there was some kind of mixup in the factory, hopefully we'll get an answer soon.
I've also contacted my dealer where I bought the bass, I'll let you know when I have any news on that topic.
The pickup is a split pickup and it seems to me that the A string is being picked up by the upper AND the lower coil (per pickup). All the other strings are either picked up by the upper OR lower coil. Hope that makes sense, english isn't my native language...
@@tobiasgleitz - Can you email me a copy of the letter you wrote to Cort?
Send to: kevin@barnardgraphics.com
Thanks!
@@skateborg Unfortunately not, I used the contact form on their website and I didn't get a copy of the message I've sent.
Your demo is tops as always!
Excellent review! So thorough. I think you sold me on one of these. Thansk!
7:06 "Have a wonderful week... or whatever..." lolol. But seriously, great video and that is a very nice looking bass!
holy shit that sounds incredible. cort's own brand instruments are incredible.
I’m going to learn how to change the tone with my foot as well ,very useful ,great demo
Thanks for this review! I'm very cuisous about this bass.
Great review, I ordered one today on the strength of this, it will be my Fauxdera.
How is it? I'm looking to get one myself
Cool, So how did you found this Bass??? Can you please tell me ur observation????
Thanks!!!
Nice review, man! Thanks a lot!
16mm spacing is incredibly narrow, but if the preamp is better than the Ibanez, this bass should kill in the marketplace.
toiletfarm dunno about your turf, but folks in Indonesia booked the living Jesus out of this bass
Might be a markbass preamp
Yes it is. I like 18mm the most. I think that anything less than 17.5mm is to narrow and anything above 19mm is too wide for 5 string. For 6 string 16mm is fine.
I just wish Cort would make basses with other pick ups. The mk1 are very limited IMO (although they do sound good).
Hi! What would you put into it? Cheers
I put Aguilar DCB pickups in mine two days after buying it, also a Glockenklang pre,
It’s transformed!
Sounds like a 3K Bass.
I'd put Dingwall (nordstrand) pickups in it.
@@niallpower109 Hi, did the aguilars fit the space without routing? Thanks
German Lungwitz yes they fit precisely,
The mounting holes are slightly out and I had to carefully feel for the original holes with the screws,
Huge improvement over the stock pickups.
Thanks for cool review!
Sounds & looks like a boutique bass!
I bought one of these two weeks ago on the strength of this review,
I’m delighted with it,
Put Aguilar DCB pickups and a Glockenklang pre into it,
It’s amazing for the money,
Sounds like a 3K Bass!
Nice one, it's a pretty bass. I'd change the pickups too, the Mk1 Bartolini's sound is very neutral and boring - but it helps keep the price down overall.
I think I found your review on Thomann lol
I want that bass!
Recording the voice on the back
, great!
Howdy when setting the switch to passive, do one of the eq knobs become a passive tone control? Also I wish you would have played more notes on the B string whilst on the Neck pickup. After all, most regular scale basses sound fine on the B string when on the Bridge pickup in my experience. It's amazing to me why people demo'ing 5 string basses don't play more notes on the B string up and down the neck. I've actually seen 5 string demos with zero notes played on the B...you should see me yelling at my monitor, it's hilarious. 🙂 I will subscribe after I send this comment. I really do enjoy your videos.
I’ve owned this bass for over a year and played a lot of gigs with it. The strings are closer together than most basses, this makes it really easy to play but also different feeing compared to any Fender style you might be used to. I am happy with it. Compared 19mm spacing you can really fly on this thing. But as he said for slapping ( which we should all be getting away from 😂) it’s not ideal.
If they only made this in a 6 string configuration
Just asked for this through one of their dealers; the rep at least said it sounds like a great deal and is passing the message on to the design dept.
If only the fan was more intense...
34”-35.5”
I suppose it’s a great option for the “I’m not sure about multiscale” crowd
Yeah, I hope they make a six strings version too
What do you guys think? Is the sound incredible because of the single cut and big wood connection to the neck or is it the effect of the multiscale? And sure you guys will say both.. But as a compromise.. Its hard to choose between the A5 plus FMMH with normal string spacing, It sounds great as well but just not entirely as deep and singing as this SCMS. It looks better IMHO and would make a better slap bass.. And now there will be the A5plus SC with same scale as the FMMH. Better fret spacing compared to the SCMS, no multiscale, big piece of wood along the neck.. I'm so curious which one would sound and perform best allround.. Can you guys make a comparison video between those 3? Or give advice which one would be superior as a instrument to be used allround?
Best review!
Please try and show us Cort custom GB 4 or 5
So the same people who make Ibanez basses in Indonesia make these? It looks very similar to an Ibanez.
Yep! To be honest I'd rather have this as the hardware is far superior
this is almost a perfect bass for me, my only question is about the top, is it a veener or a solid one?
It’s a solid top
Thank you .
That bass sounds great! Looks great too. Now, I wonder where I can get one in the. US?

good job, please review the Harley benton Resobass!
I always appreciate your efforts.
Thanks, for the product review and all you do.
I owned a Cort Steinberger Headless.
It was a great little Bass, growled like a Bear.
Gluten Tag!
Nice. Now can we have a neck-thru, multiscale, longscale PASSIVE bass with vintage style pickups?
That's my dream, a p bass multi scale with this design and top materials
masterpiece
Super helpfull, thnx.
Fantastic...😲😲😲

Ликей уже и до обзоров басов добрался, ШОК
How would you compare this bass with a similar Ibanez SRSC605?!?
Hi is there steel or nickl frets and from what material is nut made?
Does the fanned fretboard tune the same as a regular fretboard? Is there any variation in pitch fretting say, the third fret on the G string of both styles of fretboard? It appears as if the angle of the fret would indeed affect pitch, since the distance from the nut seems greater.
No, it doesn’t affect the pitch at all
Since the bridge and the nut are also slanted the pitch (or spacing of the frets really) is actually the same from string to string
As far as the third fret on the g-string in particular, not sure, but there is reason to believe that it may on some frets. Considering that even with guitars and basses with regular straight frets, the pitch of some notes vary more or less, even when properly intonated. This is usually not noticeable when you play one string at a time as bass players mostly do. But when you play chords, the major thirds have a tendency to be a little off pitch, and I find that this is less of a problem on a fanned fret guitar playing chords in certain ways. This is probably not an issue for most bassists. However I find that "horizontally stretching" chords sound more in tune on the lowest strings on a fanned fret guitar. So maybe a fanned fret bass also may offer a more accurate pitch on certain frets. This is easily proven or dissproven on each instrument for instance by playing a fourth fret harmonic on the E-string and see if it matches the G-sharp on the 1st fret of the G-string, or the 11th fret on the A-string. You will find that the same notes played in various places and on different instruments may vary. Some times quite noticeably. My personal experience is that intonation is a little easier on my fanned fret guitar than the other guitars I have. Although this may be because of other factors not taken into account.
Tell René to smile a bit more. 😄 He plays like the gods, but always looks a bit grumpy.
alright, i will tell him! :)
At 16mm, the string spacing at the bridge is way too narrow IMO. Otherwise quite a nice bass.
This bass is awesome! How much does it cost?
Thanks
Borja Naval Street price, $999.
What's your preference between the Cort Artisan A5 Plus SCMS and the Cort Artisan A5 Plus FMMH?
I am screaming inside, I just recently bought an Ibanez BTB846sc the main reason being after studying with Gary Willis I had to move away from 4-string for a while and wanted to move to a more modern platform for my playing. So had this bass one been offered as a 6-string model, two had more finish options, three I want multi scale and equal temperament fret correction, and finally if I'm going above and beyond what is standard vs. what should be standard an on-board DI for balanced output. Still on the fence about active passive toggle, would make more sense depending on DI integration active vs passive DI or if those circuits can be linked. @BassTheWorld.com I would love to see a direct comparison between this and the Ibanez BTB 845-6sc series.
I hope they make a fanned fret version of A5 that isn't single cut which look ugly for me.
Hi, I know this is a 5 year old video, so hope someone reads this comment. I purchase this bass a few weeks ago, what strings would you recommend for this bass? I need to change them and I read somewhere that your standard Ernie ball strings will fall short for E and B strings, so... any recommendations???
I got you. I recently ran into one of these basses and had the same issue. Copy and paste what I put at the bottom. These strong sound great and are super comfortable. You want to make sure the
Strings you buy are super long scale.

I know bartolini pickups are American made, are those bartolinis USA made as well?
No
left handed version?
How much does the bass weigh?
What distortion pedal is being used in this video? I love this channel also! I
Thanks 🙂 That’s the B7K Ultra by Darkglass
Should I buy the cort a5 scme or the lackland 55-01, whitch is your opinion???
No lo sé, pero yo tengo el Lakland 55-01 y suena increíble
What strings use?
If someone is looking at this in 2021 wanting to buy this bass - then DO. I have one of this and it's a great instrument for rock/metal music. There is ONE problem though - the top strap button placement is kinda weird so you'd have to use strap locks or the bass will fall from the strap constantly.
That is short neck bass ? Nice bass
Please watch the video 😉
wow a three handed bass player.
How do you think it will be with an high c?
Fine
👏👏👏
Yes 60mm is definitely too narrow. Please, speak about bass balance standing and sitting in your videos. It's such an important parameter. Not only speak, show it. There are too many good looking and sounding basses that are totally unbalanced.
Les Claypool T-Shirt.
Using panga panga instead of wenge is to avoid CITES regulations, right?
I don’t think so
Pretty sure it's just wenge.. lol
Imagine if you want to replace the nut!
any decent luthier worth his salt should be able to make one for you for a reasonable price.
5:51 nice missed strum lol
Great except for the pickups
Ich lieber das
it seemed like this bass would be my dream one, but then I saw BARTOLINIS MK1, GEEZ I Have them on my 2005 Ibanez BTB
plz stahp be more creative
Too much of high frequency + doesn't sound punchy although I love the body and the looks
I tried one of these the other day. I compared it to a Dingwall Combustion which was too trebly and an Ibanez BTB which is capable of being very boomy with the bass dialed up. I liked the Cort best. The neck feels like Ibanez (same manufacturer?) but the tone was punchier and I was still able to dial in a decent amount of bass. MUCH punchier than the Dingwall and felt better under my hands.
@@arthurfranklin9315 thank you so much for your answer, yes I wanted this so badly but there was no good review on the RUclips for me . I'll go for this 😊 thank you
@@arenmjamir6380 Full disclosure - my taste runs to mid-heavy tone because that's where the note definition is, which is why I tend to gravitate towards Ibanez. The Cort delivers big-time in that area
I love the single cutaway shape. Anyone want a kidney? Slightly used
Lol ! Yeah the shape makes it so beautiful. I plan to sell my car also
Nice Bass but not affordable anymore!!!
Panga panga :v
Lack of definition and resolution IMO.
Same, here.I think it's beautifully made bass, but those pickups and preamp are not Cort own made for that bass, they just used a thir party pickups and pre amp,Whoch is nothing wrong with that, but somehow these pickups sound not so full of charachter, like they lack something in the upper midrange Amd dunno if this bass will sit in a mix nicely, whitout much post processing.
@@savanaviolenta shit pickups and preamp, amazing wood, hardware, and construction. Upgrade to Singularities and a real bartolini preamp and it will wake right up. I have an older 1991 cort artisan that I upgraded from mighty mite to emg 40jx and BTS pre, and the acoustic tone now comes through.
NICE HARLEY BENTON BASS :D
thats not a Harley Benton bass.
Yeah... That's wenge... Lol
Lots of mids and artificial sounding. Nooope. Lots of better options out there.
Martí Sanmartí mids are what help you stand out in a mix im not sure how this is a bad thing
