I once saw this on sale for a dollar in a record store used. I listened to it and decided it's not worth it. It sounds a tad better to me some 20+ years later.
This was released in the early 90's... i know because I allegedly stole it from Tower Records thinking it was a real album. Turns out to be one of the best albums I ever stol.... owned.
Stunning. The classic intro is somehow done justice with orchestral percussion, the bombast of the verses perfectly juxtaposed with the peaceful serenity of the choruses, the guitar solo transmuted into a glorious orchestral orgasm (though, it already was, wasn't it?). Whoever did this arrangement knew exactly what the hell he was going. I'm blown away.
I first heard this recording back in 1995 when I was 14 years old and hearing it again instantly took me back to a simpler time as well as giving me a fresh appreciation for how fantastic this rendition really is.
This album was arranged by Jaz Coleman, produced by Youth aka Martin Glover...members from Killing Joke !!!! They made another record called.. Kashmir: Symphonic Led Zeppelin
This song is truly amazing! I have vivid memories from me as a child dancing around in the living room to this song, and I still love it as much as I did back then. This whole album is incredible!
Listening to this brings a tear to my eye. It took me 18 years of my life to find out that my two favorite musical groups had (somewhat) come together to make such awe inspiring music, I can hear David Gilmour's words laced on top of the flow of the Orchestra and the combination of the two is just perfect.
9 years later.............It is not a cover, it is an interpretation by the Artists themselves, with the valuable assistance of the Magnificent London Philharmonic Orchestra.
I don't know how, but somehow the CD version of this made it into my small collection when I was in high school, and you bet your bottom dollar that this was one of my top played study / essay writing soundtracks. I don't know what it is about it, but the swells, the dips, the rhythm and build up of this album just makes for absolute inspiration. I'm in college now, and though that was only a few short years ago I suppose, gosh does it feel like a completely another time. When those trumpets kick in around 2:20, it's a whole another ball game. Stay safe & healthy out there! (And keep the writing flowing)
Bought this DVD in 2000, lost it or someone "borrowed it" when moving January 2006, some needed it more than I, thanks for posting!!!! Wished as I do as known where and whenst I desire to be.
If you read the booklet the CD comes with, Roger Dean (the painter who did all the artwork for the album) explains the design ("The Dragon's Garden"). Originally it was just going to be the landscape; the dragon was added near the very end.
When I was in high school, I had this intense, vivd dream where this song was playing. It was modeled in a way like a movie trailer. It moved over a vast, beautiful… but dark city. A hybrid of dark colors and bright light. Figures would disappear in the shadows. By the time the music swelled and came in; I saw all these villains and superheroes fighting, jumping, flying. I saw what I thought was Batman in a grey suit lol. Perched on a building. Eyes glowing white. Not saying I'm psychic; but this should be used in Batman V Superman. It would be BEYOND epic.
Beethoven would have loved this I think!!!! I could almost imagine him in tears listening to this!! (Hint he was a revolutionary in music for his time, not many people realize this!)
This is such an incredible rendering of the Time by Pink Floyd... It is not only adoringly impressive but irresistibly pathetic. The Royal Philharmonic's arrangement was impressive orchestration. But, London Philharmonic's is re-creating the composition in a style similar to the film scores. The fortes and pianos are different from what we are accustomed to hearing in the original Pink Floyd interpretation. The sound effect of a wheel turning that repeats only adds to the total effect. Thank you
OMG! I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan from Brazil. What's that? I honestly thought that nothing could possibly be as good as PF. Of course, they're still genius - they've come up with this after all - but only a classic version, executed by people that have studied music so deeply, could sound as amazing as PF guys.
I too love the mighty Floyd. Never mind Korn's carve-up have you heard Scissor Sisters cover of Comfortably Numb!! London Philharmonic are amazing though.
I'm a huge Floyd fan and I've got to say, these covers are fantastic! Did anyone else buy a gun when they heard Korn's cover of another brick in the wall? I swear if I ever see Johnathon Davis walking down the street he is toast...LOL I do have one bit of criticism for the London Philharmonic Orchestra though; why does the cover have a god damn Dinosaur on it?
Lots of things rule; like hot chicks with guns. So why dinosaurs? I guess its kind of like the big metal lizard thing from the "welcome to the machine" video. But that was pretty surreal and awesome, this dinosaur is just kind of there (randomly)

I remember listing to this album non stop in high school...37 now...what found memories

I bought the CD from Tower as well. Tower had the weirdest looking clerks. They had colored mohawks and nose pierce.
Wow
I had this album as a kid and love looking at the art while listening
Late night, when young, with this album, so spiritual, yes spiritual

Goosebumps from start to finish!!
Phenomenal
One of the greatest songs ever written and this is yet another testament to its greatness.
ok, Roger, Dave and Nick have to come back together to make one last concert with an orchestra... i would wherever it is to watch it

Absolutely absolutely awesome. Spectacular.

I am a huge pink floyd fan and i was skeptical to a classical cover of this song but i must say.... this is simply wonderful.
London Philharmonic Orchestra is now my favourite listening music. First I heard the videogame music, and now this... One word, Legendary!
Quite possibly the best cover of Pink Floyd I've ever heard.
so beautiful and epic, this adaptation is a testament to how good of a band pink floyd really is.

Not saying I'm psychic; but this should be used in Batman V Superman.
It would be BEYOND epic.
What sort of twisted genius....this is why I love the London Philharmonia!
Beethoven would have loved this I think!!!! I could almost imagine him in tears listening to this!! (Hint he was a revolutionary in music for his time, not many people realize this!)
wow this brings back memories!!! I remember where I was and what I was doing when I listened to this album for the first time!
I just LOVE these versions.
