My only visit to Baarlo - drove over from the middle of England with my friend, we were 18 & 20. We had some camping gear, an England flag, a 10 year old map and a 13 year old Ford Fiesta that we managed to drive round the track the day before. We put so much cheap beer in the back at Calais on the way home the suspension bottomed out driving onto the ferry 😄 That was a FAST track.
Great video thanks for posting it, I remember someone telling me the next day that Frankie had won (1998 those were the days before instant results on the internet) I remember I was absolutely buzzing as I've been a Wainman fan since I started going racing in the early 80s, I loved that car it was small compared to most cars of the era when he went on and won the World Final at Coventry in it. That car will always have a special place in my heart as one of the best 515/1 cars ever. I really hope someone put's it back together as a heritage car some day...
it was the sound of his engine that was so different than the engines of the dutch cars. i actually was at this race with my uncle and we always stood right next to mario( the guy who films all those races). i was 8 years old and everytime frankie came over to baarlo it was something special. he will always be my favourite driver.
