    Anna, thank you for educating me on linen years ago. The majority of my summer wardrobe is linen and it is fantastic for keeping me cool and looking a bit elevated (much classier than a cotton t-shirt). I also find it very disrespectful when tourists wear inappropriate attire in places of worship. We should think of ourselves as representatives of the country, city or town we are from when traveling, so dress well.

    • @HosCreates
      @HosCreates 2 года назад +31

      I also agree. Ive been in churches were people have not dressed modestly with lots of decolletage/leg showing and I find it disrespectful as well

      It's more inappropriate not dressing properly at a church service on a Sunday! Most ppl want comfort when they're travelling.

      I'm all for linen and dress well, actually Anna gave tips on linen before and I must say it really helped my look in Lisbon, Venice and the costa del sol the last couple of years however I'm Catholic not Muslim and as Christians we are supposed to see past dress as its superficial ie some leg, some cleavage doesnt offend me even in church. But I do agree hot pants or worse cycle shorts look bad on most people

    Ladies, wear modest clothes and do not be afraid of the heat. The more you cover the body, the more it will be protected from the direct heat of the sun. And she's right, the choice of material is the most important. This is a sincere advice of a veiled girl from a country where the temperature in the summer rises to 45 degrees. Your speech is very wonderful and sane Anna.

    My go to is always carry a scarf. You can cover your head if hats are not for you (when entering a cathedral) and a scarf will be a quick fix if you have a little spill on your blouse. Tie the scarf to your bag or tuck it in your bag.

    I think linen is seen differently in different cultures, because I was raving about how posh linen looks to my friend from Indonesia and she said in her culture linen is mostly worn by the servants and help staff of rich families. I was a little bit surprised, but it makes sense as it's a hardy, rough and cooling material that's perfect for work attires in the tropics.

Recently amidst the NYC heat wave I began to wear longer sleeves, pants, and maxi skirts in breathable fabrics (for modesty & sun/ pollution protection)- I’ve actually been more comfortable and cooler than I ever was wearing shorts and tanks.

    These are all great tips, Anna. I have "touristed" a lot in Europe in summer and usually manage to look so much like a local that tourists ask me for directions and locals speak in their own language to me.
    Looking "expensive" is not the goal though. There are many expensive clothes and accessories that look less than ideal. We want to look classy, elegant, timeless, at-ease, quality, elevated.

    • @mynamename5172
      @mynamename5172 2 года назад +3

I love your modest take on elegant dressing as there is a misconception that you cannot look good unless you are showing a lot of skin. Love the point about churches, unfortunately this common sense and courtesy is not so common! It's also important to note that in many of the bigger cathedrals in Europe, the staff will not let you enter if you are wearing inappropriate clothing and they may ask you to buy a covering for the duration of your visit - i've seen this many times. So it's better to be respectful and prepared rather than be embarrassed at the entrance!

      What bothers me that her perception of elegant is very outdated. And I agree that wearing nicer outfits even while traveling is nice, it’s just that it can be variety of different styles. For example in Paris or Berlin her outfits would look very touristy. It’s not how people dress there. So you also have to consider where you are going to maybe fit in the general vibe better.

    What a refreshing outlook! Feminine , classy appropriate for occasions, quality fabrics, respectful of other cultures and the way they live, worship, etc...AND you always look beautiful! It's funny, but today I was looking at backpacks and fanny packs for future travel, and I immediately thought "Would Anna term these as classy?" the answer was NO, and I kept on walking ,LOL. Besides they were far from being attractive. Although young moms do carry them when they have little ones because it leaves both their arms free, understandable. I am always thinking, wallet, phone, comb, lipstick, compact, and wonder if it all fits in the small bags? I love the look of linen. The blue linen dress looked stunning on you. Thank You Anna. And please keep expounding on NO leggings and athletic and athleisure wear, and running, shoes, It looks boring, everyone and their aunt is wearing them, looks unoriginal, all look the same, and plain, NO one, dressed like that stands out for looking beautiful and classy in a sea of leggings. I am thankful for young women like yourself who care about themselves!

    I typically wear nice dresses during the summer. This way I am always appropriate to go anywhere. I can go someplace casual or nice. I never feel self conscious or out of place.

    Kate Spade makes cute sneakers. Also I agree with wearing a crossbody instead of a waist bag but an expensive bag doesn’t work for me because I don’t want it to get dirty. I bought the Tumi Keene Water Bottle crossbody and it looks so much better. Great advice.

    Hi Elegant Anna Bey, Thank you for the video! I love all the rules. I have a vintage Billabong bucket bag that I've used sightseeing for years. I get compliments 8 out of 10 uses.
    Hey, what about rules or tips for how to level up,.. how a lady reacts emotionally when upset or triggered by another...um, like , tips on how to react like a classy lady when you really want to scream, yell and cry out loud in an airport, on a group tour, at a crowded holiday event... Have you done that already. 💖

    It took over 20 years but I literally cleared out all my clothes and bought more things that fit a capsule wardrobe. So more high-end pieces that mix and match in more neutral colours, silks, satins, mohair for Winter and all Linen for Summer! I avoid fast fashion now if possible just as it clogs up my wardrobe and I only usual get a few wears before it starts to fade and fall apart! YES it took time to get a good wardrobe, swapping that £40 H&M dress for a £130 one from Ghost, but now I have invested in it, I rarely need anything else. I swear by the brand Ghost London!

      My thoughts exactly. My grandmother was the most stylish lady I've ever known, and her advice was, "Some pick-pockets are truly desperate. Never travel with anything you aren't willing to lose." She would always leave her better jewelry, bags, and shoes at home during travel for safety reasons.

    Thank you Anna for pointing out the disrespectful attire at churches. When I was a kid, most churches did not allow tourists or anyone for that matter, who was wearing sleeveless shirt. We had to put a jacket or shawl over us. Now time has changed. I would say that okay, sleeveless is maybe okay, but still, some outfits these tourists wear are so appalling and too bad that church no longer refuses them.

      @@SydneyConnectsDots True, every human being is sinful. That's why Jesus died on the cross so that we could be reconciled with God when we genuinely ask for forgiveness and repent our sins.

      Suveran Lady: Even though I totally get you And I think the rule itself Is a little bit sexist, it Is not just the church itself you disrespect, these places means a lot to big amount of ppl. And especially as tourists And guests in foreign countries And cultures, we should Always be respectful.

    Thank you! I am so tired of women wearing work out gear literally everywhere! I agree, wearing revealing clothes in churches and cathedrals just make you look ignorant!
    Your advice about elevated warm weather looks was spot on. To a summer festival I recently attended, I wore a sleeveless white blouse (tip: wear it buttoned lower than the right button, use a small 🧷 safety pin to secure the low cut look) and high wasted skirt in a beautiful red and gold print fabric…giving leg, carrying a fabulous bag and well chosen jewelry, and my big shades. I stood out from the booty shorts, tank top wearing women. My upscale look pulled a fine looking well-heeled Man. We had a great afternoon listening to the live performances and talking. We have been spending time ever since. First impressions! 😉
