Well I'm a Burmese who hasn't gone back to Myanmar in the last 4 years. Thanks to your videos, I literally gained an insight that Myanmar is not how it used to be at all. Really sad to see our country going backwards on financial and tourism aspects since the start of the coup. Thanks for sharing what's happening in Myanmar when even us Myanmar citizens are afraid to go back to our own country.

Myanmar, aka Burma, is my favorite country. If you think you had problems you should have been there in the late 1990s. Two weeks visa, no Internet, no nothing. All Kyat exchange on the illegal black market and unusable for hotels, etc. In my humble opinion, the people are infinitely kinder than in Thailand, a place I grew up in in the 50s but seemed to sour with tourism and materialism. The adage, you never have enough comes to mind. The often jerk taxi drivers that told you you had to go to the far away bus station, near the airport were steering you wrong. Exactly opposite the train station is where you can buy bus tickets, a multitude of kiosks. I’ve only bought for the Shan State and Mandalay but I’m sure Bagan tickets were available. They discontinued the free shuttle to the bus station, however. Years ago I tried to see or meet Aung San Sun Kyi in the outskirts of downtown. The street was barricaded with barbed wire but I strolled through while the cops weren’t paying attention. They eventually saw me and vigorously directed me to get out. Years ago and more so today in the tea shops, which are omnipresent, people would love to talk politics but they were very careful, looking around to check out the people in the shop. I love Myanmar, visiting in about 7 times, for the very fact that it hasn’t been globalized. Unfortunately, it’s led to what was once the richest SE Asian country into being the poorest. However, and hopefully not being insensitive, I wonder how much happier the far richer Thais are. They don’t seem to be. Thanks for your videos. You’re quite savvy.
It’s my favourite country. The people I met were so wonderful. I’m still in touch with some of them. I went there the first time in 2007 and loved every minute of it. I had to change money on the black market in a doorway near a bus station and there were no ATM’s or banks I could use. Internet cafes with clever ways around restrictions with email etc. travel was limited but wonderful. The 2nd time I visited was early 2020 just before the pandemic lockdowns and I could travel much further and even on the trains. This time I could change money legally at money change shops and banks. Things were so great. It makes me so sad to see how it is now. I hope things change for the beautiful people of Myanmar/Burma. ❤️🙏
Actually, these taxi drivers were not steering him wrong. The ticket stations at the opposite side of the railway station were already closed for almost a year, so on that time if you want to go to Bagan, you only have to go to aung min ga lar station which is quite far from there around 40-60min drive on traffic condition. Visited Burma in 1978. At the time the visa was valid for only 7 days. Any over stay meant jail time and a fine. Had to make sure I was back in the capitol a day early. Rangoon was fascinating, especially the Shwedagon Pagoda. Was surprises to see so many people jogging and exercising in the early morning hours. Seeing the Three Stooges listed in the TV Guide at the hotel was also quite shocking. Before arrival, one stopped in the Duty Free Shop in Bangkok and purchased 2 cartons of 555 cigarettes and one 4/5 bottle of Johnny Walker Black (Not Red!). The total came to about the equivalent of $ US 20. These were exchanges with the Taxi driver at Rangoon Airport for the equivalent of 70 Burmese Chat or enough to fund an entire one week stay in Burma. Took the train to Pagan and had a wonderful exploring the many temples on a bicycle rented for the family I was staying with. One of the train stops introduced me to one of my favorite fruits: Mangosteens (no, not mangoes). Burma was one of my most favorite countries in Asia.
I visited the first time in 2007 and again in early 2020 just before the pandemic and lockdowns. This video makes me so sad to see the changes there now. I long to return but not sure as it is at the moment. I met so many beautiful people. Thanks for sharing this video. ❤️🙏

I found train travel in Myanmar Fascinating.Passing thru the small towns, the old stations, the yellers and sellers, and the unfamiliar protocals was all very interesting.I can not say it was a comfortable experience but the comfort zone is not a thought provoking place.

I was in Myanmar back in 2003 and done a twelve hour bus ride from Mandalay to Yangon, which turned into 26 hours, as the bus driver took the wrong road. The biggest issue I had was money, as there were no ATM's and we were hassled by government workers wanting me to use their inflated services. Honestly the people were great, but it was just too hard work and was glad to see the back of the place. I take my hat off to you for doing it in a military lockdown, as I don't think I'd have the patience now.
hello, I David who lives in Myanmar don't come to Myanmar again because Myanmar military don't allow to take picture and record that all. Stay Safe Sir. I love your videos
Best of luck buddy. From all 50 countries that I have visited nowhere were they as honest and humble as in Myanmar. The country still has a special place in my heart, so much that I actually thought of moving there to start a small business. It was, and probably is that special, all because of the people. Take care ❤

Nice vid, it was really interesting see Myanmar in a bad situation like this with a POV of a foreigner. I really hope this doesn't stop you nor other foreigners/tourists from coming to our country. Because it's a really beautiful one. Just don't come now, because now is NOT the good time.
I am burmese and I went to japan and still in japan because of 2021 crisis. It wasn't like that before military seize power (time and time again) almost a decade we were doing great. It was safe to go all night long, no electricity outage, business and job opportunties flourished. Now we went back to where we were before 10 years ago under military regime. It's so sad to see your own military who sworn to protect you is killing you. The extend of that mad man greed is just horrifying, disgusting. I will spit on his grave when his time comes.
I am a citizen in myanmar and I used to go to a rich school called "ISM" it was really fancy and stuff, kind of like a average american school (I was in high school) but a bit better and trust me, when me and my parents saw the message that the school gave us, we were both shocked and crying since we though it was gonna be WW2. (Also edit, before you get a ticket ALWAYS get chips and some other stuff at a convenience store called gag for short, it has Noodles in packs and noodles in bottles, not like water botles, theres also like a lot of snacks and soft drinks.
@@theo208Well, kind of yes, if you compare the architectural status of most traditional schools in Myanmar, you'd agree the average American high school is "fancier"
the drive’s assistant is just trying to check the air pressure level of the car tire . when it’s at a certain pressure level , the hit sound like a bang bang and you can know if there is any low on pressure just by listening to the sound , or sort of . that’s like a traditional thing for drivers in myanmar . so don’t worry my fri . saying hello from myanmar
believe me most scammers in myanmar are near pagoda. they will charge you extra but u can always try to lower the price. the snacks are made of fruits. they are sour and help you stay refreshed in hot weather. the wheel tapping his him checking whether the bus tire air pressure is good or not. the grapes are right price.
My wife and I are going to Myanmar next month. The last time we were there was just as the virus was shutting everything down... Should be very interesting... : )
Man, I don't know the exact situation of Burma since I haven't been to burma in the recent decade. But according to a friend, who used to observe about situations in Burma, you're getting things at reasonable but slightly higher prices, this is when a very high inflation going on there in their economy, about safety, there will be no trouble for foreign tourists in most places.
I am also a 10 year old in Myanmar. Myanmar is a really dangerous country. It use to be a free and beautiful country before the military changed out lives. I witnesses a few militaries officer beating a 4 year old to death. His parents were beaten and abused also.
i had a school field trip and a canadian teacher and the principal from england also came with us and at a checkpoint the soliders told us to leave them out at the base than when we come back we can pick them up again but my form teacher payed also of cash for it
P.S. the bus station brings back memories, last there last December. The VIP buses have two and one rows which are good for single travelers. There are lots of military checkpoints but foreigners tend to exaggerate the “dictatorship” as far as curfews. Meaning, if you’re not a journalist or a local dissident there’s not a problem. And I was never “terrified” when the police/military checked ID’s. They were usually polite and courteous. Better than in Guatemala during their civil war and all males had to step out of the bus. I imagined if one ran the bullets would fly. Don’t know exactly when you were there but the buses stop at great, a little pricy eateries along the way. Pee bottles should be colored to disguise the contents. And preferably wide mouth.
Yeah, you're right the foreigners are exaggerating the dictatorship. In my state, there was no protest when the military took over and everything is going well except the inflation due to US sanctions.
It's so sad to see. I founded a business in Myanmar in 2016 and it actually grew into what is now the leading online jobs website in the country. I was there in the brief democratic period between Juntas. The people are so gentle and beautiful and my heart goes out to them. The Shwedagon pagoda in the center of Yangon is my favorite place in the world. I spend most of my time between Ireland, Thailand and China these days but Myanmar will always be in my heart. Too many outrageous stories to type here I just wish happy and peaceful times for these beautiful spiritual people.
I am not 100 percent sure about my opinion on how you can't get a train ticket but i think they don't wanna let foreigners get hurt in the train mining. Resistance forces sometimes mine the trains which are military supplies trains and solders carrying passenger trains rather than civilian train. But they also mine some passenger train if the military personnels and important military people take the normal passenger train. So if a foreigner like you get injured or worse, their military junta government would be pounded by international countries which might even ended in UN intervention for not having a secure government.
Lol. No. That may be part of it but it's also about preventing foreigners from spreading foreign ideas to the people...the Burmese government is very xenophobic and paranoid. They don't welcome western influences.
Honestly fuckikg love your videos, I’m jealous I love to travel but have a family. I’m currently slowly visiting the Middle East just back from Saudi and my Beirut travel was cancelled for obvious reasons. Your content is next level. ❤

I took the JJ Express night bus from Yangon to Bagan in October 2023 - as always the Burmese were extremely helpful. This bus drives straight through in both directions a few times per week - with just a few stops. Also stopped a few times at roadblocks and boarded by armed police ..locals all showed their id cards, but I was completely ignored every time - the invisible man. Life for locals under the regime is very tense. Its gotten even worse - peace, prosperity and happiness to the wonderful people of Myanmar ! 🙏

The Rohingya have suffered decades of violence, discrimination and persecution in Myanmar. Their largest exodus began in August 2017 after a massive wave of violence broke out in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, forcing more than 700,000 people - half of them children - to seek refuge in Bangladesh. Entire villages were burned to the ground, thousands of families were killed or separated and massive human rights violations were reported.

Thanks!

😅😅😅😅😅 in 2023 and already bad so how it was 44 years ago
Thank you for visiting my country and respecting every burmese individual. I just subscribed
I visited the first time in 2007 and again in early 2020 just before the pandemic and lockdowns. This video makes me so sad to see the changes there now. I long to return but not sure as it is at the moment. I met so many beautiful people.
Thanks for sharing this video.
❤️🙏
I went to Myanmar before the upheaval. It was cool. But I can see by this video that the recent strife and conflict took a toll on these wonderful people.
But thanks for a great portrayal and the great footage.
Just FYI, Actually, you can buy the ticket to Bagan just the opposite side of Train station.
There are many bus tickets shops to all regions of Myanmar which is called Aung San Quinn. Some of them have ferries to Aung Mingalar
Anyways Thanks for your visit ❤

I've watched your travel vlogs about Myanmar and the other Asian countries and I really enjoy it.
Seriously, I wanna see you in person and talk to you.
You seem to be friendly and open-minded.
I'm sure, the people from Myanmar love you.
Thank you for making this video and speaking out about the current situation of Myanmar (Burma) and we love you.
I am from Myanmar.but I have never rided train😅
You know Myanmar people are so hospitablelity .😍

I found train travel in Myanmar Fascinating.Passing thru the small towns, the old stations, the yellers and sellers, and the unfamiliar protocals was all very interesting.I can not say it was a comfortable experience but the comfort zone is not a thought provoking place.
Burmese people are very hospitable. They live in fear, so please forgive me and understand. If we were rude to you, I apologize if we did not fulfill our responsibility as a host. We would like to do better than this. Thank you for visiting our country.Thank you for showing us the state of our country. The day our country recovers, we will treat you warmly. When we reach our desired goal, feel free to visit us. We are warmly welcome you😊🙏
I was in Myanmar back in 2003 and done a twelve hour bus ride from Mandalay to Yangon, which turned into 26 hours, as the bus driver took the wrong road.
Absolute craziness!
Took us 26 hrs too in 2012
I just got through binging your travel series. You have a great sense of adventure bro.
Yo your editing is getting so much better! I'm just waiting for this channel to blow up at this point!
Dude thanks so much Marty! Appreciate u dawg
hello, I David who lives in Myanmar don't come to Myanmar again because Myanmar military don't allow to take picture and record that all. Stay Safe Sir. I love your videos
From Mississippi…bless your heart ❤
This is very surreal watching as a Burmese person in LA who was literally in Myanmar 3 days ago.

WW2 wdym?
For a guy who went to a rich school, you got that doofus English my guy. Guess it really was an average american school.
Are you really sure that it was a RICH SCHOOL LIKE AN AVERAGE AMERICAN SCHOOL ?
Lmao
I see why you “used” to go to “ISM”
@@theo208Well, kind of yes, if you compare the architectural status of most traditional schools in Myanmar, you'd agree the average American high school is "fancier"
Thank you so much for visiting our country ❤❤
Your funny as hell when traveling. Awesome travel vids.
the drive’s assistant is just trying to check the air pressure level of the car tire . when it’s at a certain pressure level , the hit sound like a bang bang and you can know if there is any low on pressure just by listening to the sound , or sort of .
that’s like a traditional thing for drivers in myanmar .
so don’t worry my fri .
saying hello from myanmar
believe me most scammers in myanmar are near pagoda. they will charge you extra but u can always try to lower the price. the snacks are made of fruits. they are sour and help you stay refreshed in hot weather. the wheel tapping his him checking whether the bus tire air pressure is good or not. the grapes are right price.
I support local businesses. I appreciate your kindness 🙏🙏
I worked in Myanmar for nearly two years. Its such a shame what's happening as the country was making so much progressive
My wife and I are going to Myanmar next month. The last time we were there was just as the virus was shutting everything down... Should be very interesting... : )
Thanks for your support ❤️❤️❤️❤️
It's so funny how you get in the weirdest situations, the piss bottle situation was hilarious
5:40 "Bus that leaves in two hours, takes one hour to get there". 🤣 Props for not being fake positive.
Bro, how long ago was this trip to myanmar ? Could you tell me how this trip works and everything? Please reply me if you have seen this msg
i had a school field trip and a canadian teacher and the principal from england also came with us and at a checkpoint the soliders told us to leave them out at the base than when we come back we can pick them up again but my form teacher payed also of cash for it
Im suprised, the buses there are a hell of a lot better then our Greyhounds
Thanks for supporting local business!
Another great video bro, Myanmar was wild 😂 stay safe!
Thanks so much 🙌
WDYM by the Myanmar was wild?
having been born in the east, its so interesting to see you traverse through the eastern part of the world while being from the west
P.S. the bus station brings back memories, last there last December.
Literally a dictatorship
why did you put dictatorship in quotations? it quite literally is a dictatorship.
Low balling the taxi driver when the ride was already only $6 actually had me laughing so hard
I hate that tight ass, miserable shit, just pay the guy. $6 for an hours ride and you gotta Karen about it
He needs to low ball and not get ripped off
you can’t think of everything in your currency when ur in a foreign country.
@@imdva Yes, you must always convert
Crazy how I have been to this part of the world, I loved it. I took the train to Bagan and it was the most stressful thing I have ever done.

I really appreciate ur visit while previous military as a person from myanmar
bro had balls to break curfew
What a legend
This guy wouldn't have to try very hard if he wanted a job with the CIA if he wanted to. Videos like this would be more qualifying than a resume.
I’m so glad I found your channel, this is some funny shit 😂
Were the grapes washed? I have had Montezumas Revenge from avocado purée and not fun when traveling.
I am Burmese.I think may be that you chose wrong period to travel to Myanmar! Now myanmar is under the military control so everywhere, everything is bizarre! If you visited our country between 2015 and 2019,you would get the incredible memory! And you should read the information about Myanmar !Not compare with Thailand!we are not the same label.Bcoz of Military dictatorship,we had the bad situation if not,you should imagine how beautiful Myanmar!!Be positive Bro
I backpacked to Myanmar 3 times during 2010s. There are wonderful people.!! It's great to have diarrhea pills, hydrogen peroxide, Amoxicillin and western western snack bars😆😃
Bro the western food is essential 😂Myanmar food is weird af
Yeah man the people are lovely
I like it that, unlike what he shows from India, the taxi drivers were not pushy, it must be because they are less starved than in India.
Why hydrogen peroxide
I took the JJ Express night bus from Yangon to Bagan in October 2023 - as always the Burmese were extremely helpful. This bus drives straight through in both directions a few times per week - with just a few stops. Also stopped a few times at roadblocks and boarded by armed police ..locals all showed their id cards, but I was completely ignored every time - the invisible man. Life for locals under the regime is very tense. Its gotten even worse - peace, prosperity and happiness to the wonderful people of Myanmar ! 🙏
how do you not have a million subs bro this is fucking awesome
These guys videos are all top tiered love from wagga australia
My fucking guy😭😭😭 no way you pissed in that bottle without anyone noticing😭😭😭

I wonder if you would’ve gotten on the train had you said yes to the upper class question?

The Rohingya have suffered decades of violence, discrimination and persecution in Myanmar. Their largest exodus began in August 2017 after a massive wave of violence broke out in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, forcing more than 700,000 people - half of them children - to seek refuge in Bangladesh. Entire villages were burned to the ground, thousands of families were killed or separated and massive human rights violations were reported.
Lmaoo the kid looked like he got kidnapped at 6:47😂 I know it was his mom but it made me laugh
18,000 kyats for that taxi was way too much! Normally, it's never over 10,000 even for long distances. (speaking from my experiences as a local)
that’s normal bro what 18k is reasonable
