There's only one American car that I can think of that's faster than a GT500 on track, and it's double the price. (The Viper ACR-E) The GT500 is a bargain. Great value for money!
Awesome ... I wonder how long we can say that (for OEM cars). I see some fast tech coming our way, will it deliver the same thrills remains to be seen.
From what I can tell from watching other videos about this car being tracked, the only complaint about this amazing car is that it drinks a lot of fuel
We are supposed to drink a lot of water ourselves everyday and if gas is a car's water then we have to keep it healthy don't we? (That was mental gymnastics to justify getting under 3 mpg on the track and only 9 mpg on the street.)
Indeed!!! Matt has thousands of hours (probably) driving this track as one of the instructors in this running group. I definitely got the better end of the bargain watching his lines & feeling how he worked the car on the track, he just got to drove a Mustang that plays in supercar territory 🏎👍
What was that white mustang? GT 350? Didn't seem to have the air vents in the front fenders. That thing had some squirt though. Must have been super charged also?
That was my buddy in his 2020 GT500 (non CFTP). He gave us the point by when his tail kicked out in the last corner. This difference between normal GT500 and a CFTP GT500 is demonstrated well when we were following him, the CFTP being lower and with the big wing down-force is just faster in the corners :)
The track is called "the Ridge" in Shelton wa. It's a great track with butter smooth surface and safe runoff areas. I need to learn to drive mor2 like Matt for sure
I tracked the car in the rain for the first time at this years Goodtimes Project (for the kids I will take the car out in the rain, otherwise never). It still had good front end grip (PS4s) but man that back end was all over the place ... ended up driving in normal mode with light throttle to just make it around the track. My last run of the day I started going sideways (in track mode then, traction control off) on the straight at 120mph ... that was the flag to call it my last lap for the day ;) Wet tracks are fun but dangerous.
Indeed ... it was well set up BMW with a great driver. Matt was a guest driver in my mustang so he keep the lid on it somewhat also. Cant take anything from that BMW/Driver combo though ... very fast :).
Lol ... I was tracking at Pacific Raceways, they combined sessions into a 30 minute Session ... I had to pit at 20 minutes due to that dreaded empty tank. It was 15 gallons of ear to ear grins tho ;)
This car is ALWAYS on the verge of running out of gas ... its the (expensive) price of admission and one bragging right I would gladly give to someone else if possible (so long as I lost no hp/torque).
True Dat!!! I have seen some very fast Mopars on the track but they cant keep up with the Shelby's perfect balance of Brute Force and Handling Finesse :). Now if I could just do something about that fuel burn (I go thru 60 to 70 gallons in one track day).
@@MOBOTOY my point exactly can't keep up with the Shelby it's sad you gotta tell some people this because they such a fan boy or girl they just think a hellcat is the ultimate car lmao
Its easy to fall victim to the idea that the GT500 is much like its past lineage. tons of power that it cant put to the ground, sloppy 'muscle car' handling, nose heavy, a straight line rocket at best that can never hookup properly in a drag race. In the past those assumptions were indeed true. (which is why i dont care for Dodge Chargers today) But in terms of the latest Shelby GT500, its all just the opposite. This car is an american 911 GT3 RS murderer. We all know and love the Shelby GT350 especially the R. And the GT500 is not that. its more , much more. Yes it is indeed a heavier car, but youd never know it due to its incredible mechanical magneto ride suspension. despite its weight you never feel it, if anything if feels quick light footed and nimble. and where the GT350 runs out of breath. the GT500 is only getting started, its obscenely fast. absurdly powerful. unbelievable dare it say even beyond supercar levels of grip, front and rear, and yet its chassis and body stiffness is not phased by it. its a true drivers car despite its size weight and strength. Like Mike Tyson in his prime. A brawler with the speed and agility of a lightweight boxer. You want to see it at its best. look at it take on the nurburgring to truly understand what ford had done. ruclips.net/video/30c3mINaONk/видео.html
Like you are reading my mind about this car. So precise on the track you easily forgive the gas consumption. What a thoughtful comment and a great Nürburgring video (watched the whole thing ... it really felt like a video game watching it ... awesome). Thanks for sharing. Kelly
Umm, no. I have a 991.2 GT3 RS and a 2020 GT500. Both are great, but the GT3 RS is a much better handler. The GT3 RS weighs about 3,100 pounds. The GT500 CFTP is about 4,100 pounds. Car and Driver at the Lightning lap found the GT3 RS to do it 241.6 vs. 244.6 for the GT500. So no. If anything the GT3 RS murders the GT500.
@@shimshonbendan8730 GT3RS was on cup2R, GT500 just on regular cup2. Can't believe it's needed to say this obvious things to the owner of gt3rs and gt500. The only automatic mustang I would purchase.

My McLaren did not have front end grip but it was mid engine so. My GT500 as you know has a massive engine up front. Bring on the grip

But aren't all cars faster than a slower version of themselves? I'm still thinking about the implications of this statement ;)
