Driving a Shelby GT500 Mustang on the Nurburgring Nordschleife is basically a dream come true. My friend bought this car, and he let drive two laps with it. Before y'all go crazy, yes I'm a professional racedriver with a few championships under my belt, BUT... this is a friends car, and we were just out for fun - not laptimes. The blue BMW in his rear mirror seems to be doing a good keeping up. Plus, I didn't see him pass this particular vehicle, so I'd say he'd may even be faster

It’s amazing how much of a great job the Ford engineering department did with this GT500… it’s great to see this American Iron boss on the Nordschliefe.

@jim_biji Fully independent suspension on all 4 corners, massive brakes, dual-clutch transmission, supercharged DOHC motor with port and direct injection, and you still think it's just some dumb muscle car?
@jim_biji literally only because it's inexpensive, has shitloads of power, and is rear wheel drive. In the hands of even a half-decent driver most modern muscle cars handle alarmingly well.
Except for the Challenger. The Challenger is...special.

This isn't even the track package Gt500. It's the base version. Still impressive as hell. Nice driving!
God that Mustang sounds so good going through this track, and it looks crazy too while going fast through corners and exiting them while staying planted and not losing control, thing is planted and fast as fuck.
I rather see a mustang hittting turns than just going fast in straight line love this

Everyone is so busy trying to chase numbers and here i am sitting and thinking a sports cars job is to put a smile on your face and GT500 does just that. Brilliant driving, brilliant car.

Man amazing this is a mustang. Compared to a 2014 GT500 which was like the pinnacle American car to me... Then they came out with the GT350 and then this. The sheer difference in performance to that car from less than 10 years ago - how planted it is, the way it puts power down and rotates, and that tremec dual clutch is amazing. What Ford did with these cars is unreal. I'd argue it is a real super car and for the price the performance is amazing. Not even the CFTP and on street tires! Great vid. I should be able to buy one of these in a couple of years - can't wait.

Just wow! First time I ever see a Mustang video on the 'Ring. This video is just awesome, being able to see in front and in the rear (from the mirror) at the same time is top! And I am impressed at how it was well behaved! Of course the driver is very good to drive like that in the crowd, but still. That would be the best commercial for Ford that would show that a Mustang isn't just for straight line, it has evolve a lot!
I wish we could see the view from the blue M3 that was following.

The M2 could only keep up in the corners. As soon as the GT500 exits the corners its gone! What's really impressive is that the GT500 can handle like a lightweight M2 and still has the extra power to pull away from it in the straights. Very impressive car and driving! 😎
That M2 was great but not as powerful!
This GT500 isn't even the track pack to track back is way faster in the corner
The M2 was trying. The Mustang wasn't. He said as much, that he wasn't being that hard on it to preserve the tires. If he had, that M2 would've been regretting his choice of car. Probably is anyway.
@@voodooturbo The GT500 is +30k lol, and on top of that the M2 is most likely stock throw 10K mods and it can compete. I think the M2 driver was trying to keep up but could have pushed harder too.
The M2 was a fast novice, but also running semi-slicks etc.... We were driving a similar laptime in very different cars and styles ;)

Sounds absolutely epic and the handling looked rock solid! I saw the goddamn awful “burn my eyes out’ Quadriga Cars Ghost Mustang on Friday on the M4 so I needed something to restore my faith in the pony, thanks for doing that.

The GT500 is now a 10 second car doing 10.6s and 10.5s in the quarter mile at 133mph and 134mph trap speeds as well. Ford did a great job with the new 7 speed dual clutch transmission which is a game changer.

I’m shocked that it has not reach 500,000 views yet. Everyone wanted to see how the car behaves on the ring and now crickets. But some girl enthusiast washes her car in a bikini and man that will get views out nowhere in the hurry.

I own a 2011 Gt500 convertible, staged and dyno tuned to 820hp @5800rpm. It’s scary and fun as hell but I was more impressed with any 2015-2020 GT350 with how it pulls from 1-5 gear. I can’t imagine how this monster drives if the GT350 was that fun.

It’s not the GT350 engine,which is a Flat plane vs this Cross Plane crank.

The GT500 carbon fiber package version is even better because it has a big wing with 500lbs of downforce and Cup 2 tires. The best part is the new 7 speed dual clutch transmission along with 760hp!! The Shelby GT500 is a beast!

Yeah, the only issue is that the GT500 is so heavy even with the CFTP 4000lbs 😱 the GT350R was I believe 3600lbs

Sayed, the reason why the Shelby GT500 is over 4,000lbs is because it has 6 intercoolers, 16 inch brakes, a dual clutch transmission which all add weight. The carbon fiber track version is over 100lbs lighter than the base model GT500 which weighs 4,056lbs.
The Shelby GT350R doesn't have 6 intercoolers, huge brakes, and a dual clutch transmission which is why it's much lighter. Also, dual clutch transmissions are heavy and add weight to the car. That's why many manufacturers avoid put them in certain cars to save weight with lighter torque converter automatic transmissions or manuals.

Yet a Nissan GT-R weighs only 100lbs less and no one complains. This is pinnacle Mustang and quite awesome.

Wow! Very nice run! Well done...very clean and steady...I like looking in the mirror at the blue car (BMW) that seems to close the gap in corners then just gets dusted on the straights...and the red Porsche at the end...LOL.....trying to keep up. I'm guessing those guys are still wondering how one of those "Yank Tanks" ran them down and blew past them...

I knew the GT500 is an incredible machine, but to see it pushed at this track and be as fast/sorted as it is shocking to me. I've been a fan of the current GT500 and this takes it to another level.

The new GT500 is such an amazing car for the money.
For the speed, the Mustang seemed to be very concise and tied down.
This guy drove a flawless lap. Must really know the track well. I would love to try my hand at it. Alas; I only know the Nordschleife from thousands of Forza laps. My best full lap with a standing start in an A class 90’s Iroc Camaro is a 7:34.
Now that was *not*a run to set any lap records, running with the cars owner, on regular street tires, running into traffic and reduced speed zones, and it still was in the upper 7's when they finished, The Camaro ZL1Le did it in 7:16:04 on an actual purposeful official run. This car The Shelby GT500 would smash that time given a purpose full run.
It’s got the GT350’s displacement, it’s only rated to 760 unless you put a tune on it, the other difference it has to the GT350 is the 350 had a flat plane crank, the 500 has a cross plane crank.
Good video none the less though.

This isn’t the track package GT500 it’s a regular GT500. The 1LE is a track package, the ZL1 base is what you are referring to.
Well that would be the regular ZL1 and I'd put my coin on the chebby.
