Hey!
Randall Pearson is one of my favourite characters ever written and I have been meaning to make a character study style video on him for years! There is so much to his character though and I didn't want it to be too rushed, so I decided I would stick with one theme for this one, and that is his Anxiety. I think it's portrayed so well in This Is Us, some of the comments made throughout the series are so subtle but when you re-watch you can see what an impact it must have had on him. I relate to him a lot, I suffer panic attacks from time to time and they can get me so down. Whilst I'm nowhere near Randall's level, it still gives me an understanding of his character and it's so important to see themes like this on screen.
I went with sections for the video, so section 1 is describing his anxiety and showing/telling of his nervous breakdowns and the lead up to them. Section 2 is short and is just about where part of it stems from, which is this idea of him being the 'good' child, the 'easy' child in a way and how he feels he needs to step up as the man of the house after Jack died. Section 3 is all about his impact he's had on Beth because I think it's super important. I think it's only hit him in the last 2 seasons how much it has impacted her - her inability to pursue her passions, keeping her own fears bottled up to not affect Randall etc. I think it's important he recognises it so he can grow. Finally second 4 is the latest storyline - Randall and Rebecca. I think she influences him so much throughout his whole life and throughout the whole show and the final line really shows that 'I can't lose her'. I know everyone is super annoyed at Randall right now for his actions, and it's not something I support, but I think it's very in character and i'm interested to see how this forces him to grow more!
Sorry for that rant, i'm very passionate about this video haha. I've had it in my mind for so long and I couldn't find a song but then I realised you can listen to the This Is Us soundtrack and well this video basically made itself in the end. I'm sure you've all realised my love for this show by now, i'm literally obsessed and I've been re-watching with my boyfriend so the obsession is never going away. I'm interested in perhaps doing some more videos like these so let me know if that sounds interesting and who/what you'd like to see!

Even as they grew up hating each other, Kevin still held Randall during one of his attacks to assure him it’ll all be okay.

this is one of the best character studies I've ever watched. I can't imagine the effort you put in making this, all the parallels, the way every scene fits the vibes of the song in this crescendo of emotions. 🥺❤️
That was amazing! I can tell you really love his character. I think I relate the most to him out of the three as well, people don't really get how those small things affect him. He definitely needs more help though as he's tied so much of it to the people close to him and right now he's piling it all on Rebecca to fix. It will be interesting to see how it goes from here. Love that you did it in sections. That's how the best ones are made I think! I got my husband into it too and we've been watching together since S2 simply because he saw me watching it:D Love the little fox at the end!!

You know what's crazy? I just had a major panic attack last night. To be honest, I've been dealing with it for years and just like you, I recall to him so much; because of that. This disorder, needs to be addressed. And you, did one of the most amazing, *touching* amd emotional tribute to his character and issues and I thank you for that. I totally understand how you feel and I'm here for you if you need it, for real. Tears cant stop rolling down my face. You killed it, for real. Hands din sweetheart. Also that fox outrage at the end, kudos to your man, this is insane!

wow amanda this is beyond incredible i'm struggling to find the works to convey how this has made me feel. randall is very undervidded and i find that crazy due to how impactful his story is. i too suffer with anxiety/panic attacks and it's amazing to see a character like his on tv and i'm so glad you've made this. you put it together in such a perfect way and it really shows all of randall's character and how he is who he is. OMG AND THE SONG YOU USED GAVE ALL THE FEELS, i love everything about this

This is such a great tribute to this storyline!! I love your editing so much and the glowy coloring choice and this instrumental music choice that builds and all of it. I adore Randall and hope to make a character study for him myself for him at some point. I at least hope to vid this show lol... :)

I can go on and on about randall or any character in this is us but do you know what who does not get enough credit.. its BETH. She held randall upright when all shit came running through. She was the support he could rely on, she took the trauma, the anxiety. Jack and rebecca had the best story(yes one for the ages) but what randall and Beth had was what was more real.
