@@ishotmyboss Twillight Imperium tried to copy the dune formular. Heck they even tried to make a copy of the game in their own universe (Rex), but managed to only have half the depth in twice the playing-time. I can't even count on my hands the number of twillight fans I've converted. Still a pretty good game.
@@possibilityspace I'm pretty sure the only reason Rex was made was because they couldn't reprint the IP with updated rules. Ongoing legal stuff, not from the designer side. But GF9 brought really good press for that really great game. The capital Dune board game has the feel of the Duniverse, the faction mechanics are themed so keenly to the book(s) that it really feels like you're making your own revision of the book collaboratively.
According to my bro, a board game maniac, in his game groups ruins of arnak and this game are the two most popular ones when used as an introduction to strategy board games. Played it a few times and I love it too. I too am a dune fan but regardless of that it's enjoyable for everyone
I have not played the actual board game but they have a PC version on Steam now which appears to be an incredibly faithful reproduction and supports both single-player and online matches. It's great fun to kill a half hour.
@ProZD have you maybe heard of/tried lost ruins of arnak? it has a similar vibe. I myself am waiting on the copy of dune imperium in my language to arrive in a few days.
this game looks really fun, complicated but fun. my dad really likes worker placement games and Dune, so i'm gonna show him this game and see if we'd like to get it.
My only problem with the game is with the Market, Turn order, and the Intrigue deck as a whole: randomness that negates all ur hard choices for combat, influence track or endgame just because someone plays a card. Every advantage should be earned as proven by ur foresight/choices not because of luck! Which is why I propose 3 changes: 1) Have the Market be 8 cards instead of 5 OR flip/refresh all unpurchased cards at the end of the round OR both! 2) Fix the Intrigue deck somehow, like drafting display 3 to choose from, so others know what u got, (if they remember), but don't know WHEN you'll play it! OR take out the Endgame VP cards & Plot pay for VP cards (there's only 4) 3) Have a mechanic that allows players to affect turn order! Such as: Have the CHOAM Secure Contract space also have a 1st Player icon meaning u get to give the 1st player coin to ANY player and they immediately become 1st player OR will be 1st player next round. OR each round Player lowest on the VP track goes first then 2nd lowest goes 2nd etc. ties broken per normal endgame rules
Uneven turn order isn't bad bc yes, it's a disadvantage in the worker placement game but an advantage in the hidden-auction battle system. If you're last in order you have perfect information and can snipe the battle or retreat. ❤ Agreed on a larger market though. Alternatively: at the end of every Reveal turn, the player whose turn it is next, chooses one card from the market to trash. So at least one new card must be drawn every reveal turn.
I have been waiting for things to open up again so I can finally play this and Lost Ruins of Arnak. Bought it late last year, and it's been killing me that I couldn't play it. Like you Deck Building is one of my favorites and so is worker placement, so this combo sounds so good.
@@davidtaylor142 No, I meant the first three but put "and" like a dumbass. I think its because I binged the first three books at once years ago and my current tired brain just divided Messiah and combined those parts into Dune and Children of Dune, lol. My bad.
You MUST play the Original Dune Board game. It;s an absolute classic and must play of the genre. So good. Watch SU&SD's review of it if you are unconvinced...
You obviously love this game, which means it is too difficult for me. I have never read the Dune books , but I remember that the smart kids in school liked them. I was distracted by the yellow piece of paper, the Spice Girls, and the X-Files. Was there a beverage?
i have no idea what and how this game really works because i'm having processing issues rn but this looks so cool. i hope i can get it one day and play with friends. ☺️
I was fully triggered at “Bean” Gesserit.
Now I have a mental image of that first scene between Paul and Reverend Mother, but she is a bean :D

"Freemen" and the "Bean" Gesserit lmao
It’s funny how different yet completely similar this is to the original Dune board game.
i'm genuinely glad you don't only do skits and do whatever kinda content you wanna do even when it doesn't give as many views
I love the dune books lol. Didn’t realize there even was board games. Excited for the movie though!
Dune has the worlds greatest board game (not this one, though pretty great).

I don't know anything about Dune, but this looked cool, so I bought it. Don't regret it.
Not only is this the better Dune game, this is one of the best board games available. 10/10 in my books.

This board game looks like an interesting take on Dune
This is almost as complicated as the actual book....
AND THAT'S REALLY SAYING SOMETHING
This board game doesn't seem all that boring.

Have you by any chance done any voice work for Dire Wolf Digital? There's a voice line in Eternal that I thought sounded like you.
This is basically lords of waterdeep with slightly changed few aspects of the game
??? lords of waterdeep is a worker placement and set collection. This a worker placement with deck builder, dual use cards, and a bit of area control.
You should read the books, SungWon. The first 3 are excellent.
I really want to see you make a video where you play this with a friend
