Great conversation of pertinent S.F. Giants concerns! I start my day with EYDS and I appreciate what you guys do! We all KNOW that the Giants need to build the Farm, we all know we want to compete! Posey, Winn, et. al. need time to set-up, organize, and commit to their vision. Pitching and Defense is what Buster originally laid-out, so that should be our template. Evaluate ALL our youngsters who will be at the Big League level. Make trades where you can to improve the MLB club, and build the farm system. It won't happen overnight; fans should expect and accept some struggles.

Hicks, walker, and doval in the bullpen is a scary idea and it opens the line up. It’s a no brainer

Feel for the game is a vague term. What it usually means is aspects of the game that can’t easily be captured by analytics. Some of those things are situational decision making, reading other players, attacking weak points in the opposing defense, pitch diversity, speed changing, and bat/zone control.

As the pitching goes, this year, so goes the Giants. It's usually true anyway, but this year especially so. Good young arms that the league respects, a rotation with swagger, that is what we need to compete in the National League West. If a good pitcher is on his game, as good as the Dodgers are, they aren't hitting that day. Then, we just have to scratch out a few runs, and it's win day. What Verlander brings, is a guy who knows how to compete at a high level year in and out. The young arms the Giants have can use that knowledge and swagger.

Bring back the cartoon character GIANT that they had so long ago! He was a Giant who had a club in his had, and I think it was from our New York era! I have a picture on one of my hats; I believe the bat was spiked, but the Giant was kind of goofy and fun looking! Bring him back!!!

No need to say it again, but I will:
Matos and Birdsong are my breakout guys (and our best shot at winning) Verlander is a good pickup. And the seagull city connects are awesome, bummed they aren’t using those.

Well can Webb maybe tick up in velo and avoid some of those rough starts if we went with a 6 man rotation?

I think they like Hicks upside as a starter and want to give him another look. Would be nice to have a true setup man though. We saw way too many Rogers bros last year

Lets not forget that through the first 5 weeks of the season Hicks was one of the best pitchers in baseball.

That’s great, he still only recorded 16+ outs 4x all season. And after those 5 weeks he was one of the worst SP in baseball. He’s just not the best version of himself as a SP and brings way more to this team as a RP. Not to mention we have way better options with greater upside (Birdsong, Whisenhunt, Roupp etc)

Cobb was a good veteran presence, but under Zaidi, the pitcher churn was pretty bad.

Sorry. I had something to do so I couldn’t watch the live show. Great show, as usual. Liked the 6 man rotation discussion. I was leaning toward the concept before they signed Verlander. Now I doubt it would be a good idea. I liked the idea to be able to evaluate more young pitchers. Good reasons given by you guys for staying with the 5 man rotation. Good to see Matos have a great winter ball season. He should be starting RF with Yaz (if not traded) providing late inning defense.

Haha this is fair. Think we were all operating on low sleep last night and were still trying to gut it out.
