I do have fond memories of this figure, but I also completely agree with what you said about the rotf era figures having weird joints. It was never a low parts count that hampered them, it was just....weird sometimes.
Had this figure as a kid. Never got it transformed because it broke within a day. It really is your mileage may vary. His hipskirt kibble just snapped off.
mine was the shoulders ! the hipskirts are still firmly attached though

They really did Ratchet dirty in the Studio Series line. And also in AOE, a real shame honestly.

I think hasbro used thick plastic back then because they knew kids would be hardcore playing with these like bashing and kicking them, so they made the plastic thick so they don’t break as fast
So why they dont do the same anymore?
i got this brand new a while after it released, in the white and red recolor. one shoulderpad broke immediately as i was pulling it out of the box, and the next one a few days later - it's been 10 years, and i'm still super bummed about it because it looked so good for those 30 seconds or so. came across it today and it was nice to see what it's supposed to be like in this video.
so much for the old plastic quality, huh

The dotm deluxe ratchet is pretty good, I got him for 5$ only missing a weapon

It would be neat but dotm already got a pretty good deluxe class ratchet, they even re-used it's engineering in studio series

I had this Ratchet during the early days of my collection in 2009 and I lost him and the only thing I had left of him was his arm
1:39 I assume you don't mean SS ROTF Megatron, because the only kibble on that figure is the back cannons, and you can actually fold those in to help fill in the back gaps.
my favorite mold is the DOTM deluxe but i wish they made one with movie 1 color

definitely gonna hunt down the rescue ratchet repaint.
this toy is one of those that I am not afraid to play with it, to transform it, to pose it. because the great plastic and great paint. New figures looks good, but that's it. I know they are for collectors and I'm happy for that, but it's not worth to buy if you are scared to transform it because paint scratching or broking parts. I broke my ss dotm sideswipe's spoiler cause I didn't want to scratch the paint. and that is bulshity work (sorry for the bad word) I don't care for details if the functionality is rubbish, complete trash. also same with the clear plastic. When you broke clear plastic on new figure, you are done. You have to got to store and throw another money to toilet for something not worthy of it. At old toys you can throw that toy to the ground or stones and it stay in put, or if it broke you glue it and goes on.

I wish hasbro did G1 color repaints for their studio series figures as I want the studio series bayverse ratchet repainted to G1 colors. Fortunately I’ve recently ordered the Hunt for the decepticons G1 color movie ratchet.
I still have mine after all these years, his head is missing tho so I have him transformed into a car for eternity

Okay so I’ve been getting back into transformers collecting lately but can anyone tell me why has to decided to not do spring-loaded missiles anymore? Is this just cost problem or is it more of a design philosophy thing
Cost. Springs have become more and more expensive to do and when they make the mainline toys a lot of the budget does to paint, tooling, and articulation.
