Thanks for the tutorial! But is there a way to have the soft body dynamics relative to the scale? Meaning they behave the same no matter the scale. Now you have the smaller the softer.
You might need multiple systems with different softbody settings on the smaller objects to behave the way you want. BTW we also have a fancy new website full of loads of CG Resources if you want to check it out www.cgshortcuts.com thanks for watching!
Hey Dave, I was wondering if you have tried out turbulence FD? I have been experimenting with it for a project I'm working on, and I was wondering if you have given it a go?
Hey mate, I have used it before at a studio I work at and it seems pretty powerful. But I haven't really had much need for smoke and fire in my work so I never bought it myself. Plus I have X Partricles 4 that has some pretty great smoke and fire effects built in. I plan to do some tutorials and a course on X Particles in 2019 covering some of those features, and would love to cover TFD eventually, but all these plugins cost money so it may have to wait;) Seems to be some decent tutorials on RUclips for it though
Hi, love your tutorials. Thank you for taking the time to make such quality content. I'm learning a ton! I have a followup question to this tutorial. I think I tried everything I can to solve, what should be a super simple problem. How do I get these soft bodies to touch eachother? They behave as if they interact, but in reality they do not even touch :/ I'm trying to use this technique to generate a raspberry.
i had the same issue, click on the cloner, go to the effectors tab and decrease the number of randomness (mine was set to 100%, 72% seemed to do the trick). i realise question was asked a year ago but it might still help people.

I'm really new with motion graphics in Cinema4d so thanks for this tutorial. But How do I render this? When I look up the picture viewer/live viewer all I see is a sphere. Thank you!
I use Octane to render all of my stuff as in my opinion it's the fastest (and easiest) renderer available. It does require the correct NVidia GPU setup though if it's something you wanted to look into. You can find more information here: home.otoy.com/render/octane-render/ and if you go down that path we have training for Octane on our website here: cgshortcuts.com/courses/the-octane-materials-masterclass/ We also hope to do more rendering tutorials soon! Hi, first, too much thx for the tutorial. It's works perfectly but i try to do de same whit a eyeball.object that i model, but the movement doesn't works. Any idea? Greetings from Spain.
I always use Octane to render these and not everyone has access to the plugin, so I dont always go through the process (as it's often the same steps each time). Dunno why but for some reason my container can't be hidden when rendering. Tried switching it of in visibility in renderer and editor but it still shows!! :(
Hi Dave, are you using the Studio version of C4D? I have the Broadcast version and I don't have the soft body tag, only the Rigid Body tag, is there any other way I can achieve a similar effect?

What would I do to add each segment a different colour? I have attempted to use multi shader in a texture and then using a random effector, but once I add the subdivision surface it cancels out any sort of texture or colour it had before?
Hey Pedro, after you're initial setup with the cloner just right click on the cloner and choose 'make editable' that will turn all your clones into individual spheres that you can texture individually. Let me know if that works for you;)
Not sure why but all my spheres immediately squish together into the top left of the container and then dont really leave that space, instead of rolling around!

Hey I think that i'm doing something wrong, when i put the hyperNURBS happens something strange, everything becomes more flat and doesn't rotate anymore. What did i do wrong? I followed every steps of the video.
Hi Carmen, hard to say what the issue might be without seeing it, you could try posting your project on the CG Shortcuts Facebook group and we can have a look for you;)
I am sorry for asking a stupid question but I am new to cinema 4d. I followed and made this project but when I render, it doesn’t render my animation. It renders just a flat sphere that we created in stage one. All the effects, animation and materials go missing. Do you know how to fix it?
Hi, i'm so confused about the parent and child layer. Let just say if i want to put volume builder for an object, then the object would be 'child' of volume builder. But when i add 'bend' in order to bend my object, how come 'bend' become child of my object? I thought it should works the same like volume builder (parent not child)?
When I try to render this all i see is a black screen, i've looked through all the comments and I've turned off the spheres, I've baked it but it still appears black. please help me

How would u make this loop? I tried copying the sim down so I could use a pose morph. but for some reason when you copy the sim it doesn't run the same way. its more glitchy and the balls don't even rotate. I even cleared all the cache, reset the initial state of the closer, renamed the variables, and hid all of the objects from the copied version that worked with no success. Would appreciate any guidance.
If only I didn't have to work;) I have some more coming very soon Romina! BTW If you didn't already know about it we now have a Facebook Group if you'd like to get involved facebook.com/groups/CGShortcuts.
I couldn't find "Rotation" when I go to Simulate > Particles. Only "Emitter" is available in that menu. I'm currently using Cinema4D R21 (Educational License). Does anyone else have the same problem? (edit: I figured you could use Shift+C to find any command. New to C4D here haha. Hope it'll help if someone else gets into the same issue)
@@CGShortcuts Thanks for replying. What is the correct way to hide the container sphere when rendering? The way you hide it in the video works fine until I go to render. I tried using the Compositing C4D tag and unchecking 'seen by camera' but now I seem to be rendering a video of balls just rotating without any kind of containing shape

great stuff but can you guys do tuts about the lighting and materials of your projects ? thanks
Thanks Rami! Yep thats coming soon;)
Great tutorial !
I have a question about gap size between balls each other. How can I mack them more closer ? The Collision Margin is not work for the soft body tag. What I need to adjust ?
Hi mate, hit Ctl+D and go to your Dynamics Tab/ Then Expert Tab and change the Collision Margin to 0.001 cm and give that a go;)
can you do the lighting and material tutorial for this one please
I'm new here, thank you for your excellent explaining...

Amazing tutorials! Very clear and sharp. However, I made a mistake somewhere and couldn't locate it! I did everything as in the tutorial, but I can't see anything on the render preview. I set to render the current frame, but all I can see is one sphere, what could be the reason for that?

@@CGShortcuts I've missed your reply! Thank you, will do!
Hey. It's been 2 years and I am watching this tutorial now. It's happening the same exact thing you described. Do you still remember what was it ?
Thanks for sharing awesome tutorials every time! But I wonder how do you set the final video size because mine is always blurry when I post on IG.
Missham It's because IG only allows resolution of 1080x1080..square shape
You can join to our group to learn more about those
Deneth Vihara But when I see other artists’ post, It’s very clearer than mine. Do I need to set bigger than 1080px? I recently joined the group btw!
Missham Can you contact me through Facebook ??and Please send a screenshot of your render settings
The output tab in your render settings will be the size of final output Missham, what format are you using? AVI maybe?
@@CGShortcuts Yes MP4 or AVI. Sorry for the basic question. I'm an amateur and playing around c4d everyday heh I usually set 1000x1000 because the rendering per frame takes long time but will try bigger size next time. Always appreciate your great tutorials by the way. I learn a lot.
Execentes tutoriales.

Thanks for a great tutorial! I'm just wondering - would it be possible to loop the animation? I've tried a couple of techniques but none of them seem to work (maybe because it's both randomized and affected by forces?)... thanks :D

I swear it's like getting a lesson from Korg, you sound just like him
Hey cg shortcuts..next time involve texturing and lighting too
Hey bud, its the same concepts from this tutorial with lighting and texturing, ruclips.net/video/GKlNyQaM0OY/видео.html always in Octane
Cheers Luke, You could try adjusting the collision margin so there's less space between the collisions;)
@@CGShortcuts Hi, I tried that to no effect whatsoever. Not sure why :/
i had the same issue, click on the cloner, go to the effectors tab and decrease the number of randomness (mine was set to 100%, 72% seemed to do the trick). i realise question was asked a year ago but it might still help people.

Cheers! Glad you found it useful! I actually havnt used Arnold for years so I'm not too sure. But you could try posting your question up on our Facebook Group and someone in our community can probably help you out - facebook.com/groups/CGShortcuts
You have to add Arnold Tag to your Subdivision surface
Thanks for watching;)
I have issues with the pre render, when i do it a quick view i see the sphere that is hidden, how i fix that?? thank u very much for ur tutorials very helpfull
You can hide the sphere after you back the animation;)
Why this man look like CG
Hi there! My rotation is still not applying, even though i have forced it in the soft body settings.. Is there any other way of me doing this?

I had this issue too, what I found useful was turning the angle speed up really high, like 700 or even 900. Hope this helps!

Thank you! But how to fix lag frame when spheres transform as soft bodies?)
I had to cut the frame in post, seems to be a glitch with c4d
I have blender and not Cinema 4D. Blender has soft body simulation available. Is this simulation possible through blender?
No idea, we dont use Blender. Im sure there will be a similar system
When I go to simulate (7:14min), I only have emitters. I can't find rotation, destruction, friction etc.... Why don't they appear to me? How do I get them? Please help me.
In the latest version of Cinema 4D gp to SIMULATE / FORCES or hit SHIFT + C and type any command you're looking for
hi, thanks for the tutorial ! but it doesn't show soft-body when I render :(
Make sure the outer sphere isn't visible to the render
@@CGShortcuts thank you for the answer. i solved the problem by turning off " render perfect" on the sphere. im super new in c4d and i have one another question, too :(. i have this softbody and also water animation. I want spheres not to be moved when i hit the play button except the water animation. would it be possible ?
Hi, first, too much thx for the tutorial. It's works perfectly but i try to do de same whit a eyeball.object that i model, but the movement doesn't works. Any idea? Greetings from Spain.
Thanks mate! Just make sure you dont use the standard sphere and it should be fine;)
Great Video but check your comments. Everyone wants to know how to render? Could you tell us where we can find it?
I always use Octane to render these and not everyone has access to the plugin, so I dont always go through the process (as it's often the same steps each time). If you want to see exactly how I've done the lighting and texturing, all the final render ready project files (which include all the lighting, materials and render settings) can be downloaded from our Patreon page here: www.patreon.com/cgshortcuts we also hope to do more indepth courses and tutorials about lighting and rendering soon;) Thanks for watching!
Amazing!! greetins from Argentina. What's the name of that material?
Greetings Brian! I think I used a SSS material in Octane for that one, you can get the material and full render ready project from our patreon page if you need it;)
hey man great tutorial, but when i go to render it just shows a black screen, does anyone know how to fix that?
You might need to put some lights in there rajiv, are you using octane?
Dunno why but for some reason my container can't be hidden when rendering. Tried switching it of in visibility in renderer and editor but it still shows!! :(
Hi Dave, are you using the Studio version of C4D? I have the Broadcast version and I don't have the soft body tag, only the Rigid Body tag, is there any other way I can achieve a similar effect?
Hi Diletta, I am using studio, you wont be able to do this effect Broadcast I'm afraid. BTW we have an awesome new Facebook Group of artists now if you'd like to get involved, you can ask questions, post your work, get free stuff and enter our CG challenges - there's one on right now! It's Facebook.com/groups/cgshortcuts Thanks for watching!
How did you get your spheres filled in
i'd add some rest length 10-15%
good idea, give it a try
What would I do to add each segment a different colour? I have attempted to use multi shader in a texture and then using a random effector, but once I add the subdivision surface it cancels out any sort of texture or colour it had before?
Hey Pedro, after you're initial setup with the cloner just right click on the cloner and choose 'make editable' that will turn all your clones into individual spheres that you can texture individually. Let me know if that works for you;)
@@CGShortcuts that was great thanks a lot!
no worries;)
Not sure why but all my spheres immediately squish together into the top left of the container and then dont really leave that space, instead of rolling around!
Hmmm, hard to say without seeing your project. If you like you can upload it to our Facebook group and we can have a look for you;) facebook.com/groups/CGShortcuts. Thanks for watching!
You just need to hide the sphere from the render so you can see inside. You can use the stop lights or the display tag
CG Shortcuts thank you, it worked 👍👍👍
Hi, i'm so confused about the parent and child layer. Let just say if i want to put volume builder for an object, then the object would be 'child' of volume builder. But when i add 'bend' in order to bend my object, how come 'bend' become child of my object? I thought it should works the same like volume builder (parent not child)?
Blue items are child and greens are parents....
Hi there! i want to ask why my cinema 4D doesn't have soft body simulation? Is it a different version? Thanks!
I'd say so Faddy, I used v19 for this tutorial. Maxon now has a cheaper subscription model so hopefully versioning wont be an issue any more;)
The lesson liked it, but I eventually sphere somehow broken?!
Cheers mate, hard to tell what might be causing it, feel free to post it to our Fbook group and hopefuly we can help you out. Thanks for watching!

how to add different textures to different balls?
How would u make this loop? I tried copying the sim down so I could use a pose morph. but for some reason when you copy the sim it doesn't run the same way. its more glitchy and the balls don't even rotate. I even cleared all the cache, reset the initial state of the closer, renamed the variables, and hid all of the objects from the copied version that worked with no success.
Would appreciate any guidance.
There must be a way, will probably envolve baking the animation to keyframes - we'll see if we can make a tutorial soon

Yeah they moved things around this release;)
Thank you! I had same issue but all now solved
Looks great until I try to export, then all I end up with is either a blank screen, a static image or a video with the container visible
Did you bake the animation and hide the container sphere (or delete it after you cache)
