    After your video, I took a look at the pen on their website all set to buy it, but then I saw the price (CAD 183 or about USD 150). It seems to me that the price is pretty high for a company that doesn't necessarily have a reputation for making fountain pens.

      Very fair comment, thank you. I'm collecting all this feedback and input to pass on to them. I'll spend a few weeks with it before starting up my review!

      Thank you for the input! I am working on my review and I have included this thought. I am hoping they'll bring manufacturing to Canada!

      iTheGeek sure but why do you think you should pay less if the pen is made by brown people?

    • @justtubingby129
      @justtubingby129 4 года назад +4

      alex mood, The whole point of outsourcing to Asia is to save $. For that amount, it should be manufactured in Canada and employees should be paid fair wages. Expensive plus shipping charges. Seems like the consumer is viewed as a fool and a fool and his money are soon parted...

    Fuliwen Shanghai is the OEM of this pen, "Brush". Fuliwen itself also carries this same model as it's own pen named "Fuliwen 014 'Scale' ". (fish scale, reptile scale) The marking on the metal section is far, far less complicated, only the name of the company. An "F" inside a circle is engraved on one side of the six sides of the hexagon bolt ring. The imprint on the nib is Fuliwen's own design. The Fuliwen shop on Taobao offers three colours: teal, yellow and white. Priced at ¥120.00.

    I recently picked up the teal Brush fountain pen with medium nib. I got their 2 pack of new converters though. I must say it’s a great comfortable pen. Super smooth and wet writing. I couldn’t be happier with it.

    As someone who uses paintbrushes on the daily this looks super interesting. Not to mention the amount of brass in the pen which I love. Thanks for putting it on my radar

    • @hetul784
      @hetul784 5 лет назад +1

      Even I use brushes on the daily but honestly I don't dig it, it's too heavy because it's brass and also it's very expensive, it just looks kind of like a paint brush. And also to go with the "brush" aspect it should probably feature a flex nib or infact even a gold nib for $150

    WoW! I went to their website and at first I was clicking everywhere and nothing was happening then I scrolled my wheel. Amazed! They put a LOT of work into that site!

    It looks nice but there's no way I would spend more than £50 on it. £107, before shipping, is just insane for what it is.

      That is something I have mentioned to them a few times - the price is high! I'm hoping they'll be able to bring it down as they streamline the process and figure out more details.

    Loved your video, thank you. :-) A "fidget pen"!! Genius! You just found a good "bit" there, for your social media campaign. :-) I love the paint brush silhouette. Like you, I'm not a big "saver of packaging", but I"d totally save that cool box, and I'm not even from Canada. :-) I wish these folks lots of success with this fun looking pen!

    Did you notice the subliminal cats on the boxing, just like the cute subliminal cat mug on your book shelf behind you? I like it. I like it alot. The pen that is. Also the mug. But I have the pen. I don't have the mug...I want that mug too now.

    The design is a mess, it has a shape of a paint brush, with a nut on it? I agree the nut is kind of cool since it stops it from rolling around, but it does not fit the design, plus with the printing press theme of the company it seems an odd choice for there first design concept. Price is insane for a made in china pen. I have not seen it in person but it does not look that spectacular. I buy a lot of Chinese pens, so I know they can be well made, but can get them for 20-25 dollars for nice ones.

    If money was no object... it would be nice to have this Canadian designed pen. I hesitate to call it a Canadian pen, but the design with the brass nut and that very impressive section .... well lets just say, I can't say I'm not impressed at first, but then being the pauper that I am, I can not just rush in where angels fear to tread and buy one. A visit to the Ferris Wheel Press facility would have been a blast. Were you able to film when you were there and if so will you be sharing some of that footage when you do your review?
    Thank-you for this very intriguing first look at the brush fountain pen by Ferris Wheel Press.... yes, a road trip is just what my soul cries out for...

    Canadian made in Shanghai from brass, retailing at close to 200$... .

    • @gourmetpens
      @gourmetpens  6 лет назад

      183 Canadian. I agree. It's an evolving product so the goal would be to have these made in Canada

    • @tomasgimenez3199
      @tomasgimenez3199 6 лет назад +3

      And even if made in Canada. Kaweco manages to manufacture rock solid brass pens in Germany far under that price point, and in terms of marketing ("brand") Kaweco is quite a player.

    • @Cubannerd
      @Cubannerd 5 лет назад +2

      @@tomasgimenez3199 I was going to bring this up. Not to be negative or anything but it's the same thing with their inks. I use Windsor & Newton inks and it's way cheaper than Ferris Wheel Press and it's not made in China. What is the point of a premium price if it's not made at home?

    • @CikisHelyzet
      @CikisHelyzet 4 года назад

      Cuban Nerd But does Kaweco ink make you fall in love with writing? :) ... I think this is marketed to new and non-calligraphers and handletterers.

    Thanks for the review, I love them. Not be too picky but at around 15:00 the sound drops off noticeably, just a case of increasing volume on this end.
    Kind of an interesting pen, but would be one of those that I would need to handle. Like the colour thought.

    So, the "brush" refers to the physical design of the pen to resemble a brush. Doesn't flex. Seems overpriced.

    I know this may be a dumb question but with iron gall is it going to be ok in a steel nib? I seem to get conflicting reports on that question it kinda keeps me from iron gall any suggestions.? Love your videos

    • @gourmetpens
      @gourmetpens  6 лет назад

      Not at all a dumb question. RK inks are pretty reliable and safe as far as inks and iron-gall go, but indeed, IG inks can damage steel nibs (and depending on the ink, the feeds as well).

    I saw this brand pop up in my suggestions this week. I am just insulted by everything about this brand. The prices are beyond ridiculous. They claim the design is so deep and inspired and I see nothing inspired. The ink bottles are literally shaped like any girls random product at Claire's. Bubble bath hand soap perfume......anything. the pen while it may be a nice pen I'm not going to bother finding out at that ridiculous price.....I'm wondering why you didnt review the product until you already agreed to be in their social media campaign..... this whole thing is something I might have paid attention to in a positive light if handled better. But as it stands the massive amt of money I spend on pens and ink will in no way be moved to this brand. I dont care for bs I dont care for a brand who wants to brag about their design and yet lacks in design. Marketing fail. Hard.

    Seems like style over substance. Nothing about that pen (or their ink) makes me want to choose them over more established brands. The made in Shanghai really makes the price hard to swallow.

    Thanks for the review, Azizah.
    I actually liked the eccentric design and the detailed engraving enough to go order one...except when I entered the code, the page generated an error message that "my shipping information does not meet the requirements for the 'GOURMETXFWP' discount code"?
    I live in the US. Does it only work in Canada, or...?
    Holding off on ordering until I figure this out.

    This pen is WAY overpriced for what it is- a Chinese made pen with a Jowo nib is basically what you're getting. I've used one and it writes good but no better than any much cheaper pen with a Jowo nib. Also, you can't post the cap. There are much better options out there for that kind of money.
