If we are going to mess around with fancy pens that are less convenient than a roller gel, we might as well use inks that invoke an element of mystery and intrigue.
I recently acquired some Pelikan Edelstein Golden Beryl and that is a beautiful gold ink. My nomination for my favourite shimmering ink thought would be Vinta inks Julio, a multi-chromic blue/pink with silver shimmer is perfection.
OH, and if I can suggest another unusual but stunning ink -- Diamine Vintage Copper from the Red 2021 Inkvent is amazing. I don't normally go for brown/orangey colors but I couldn't stop staring at it.
I don't know if you carry Van Dieman's, but I plan to get my hands on their Parrot Fish once winter ends, because it is the only one I can find with purple shimmer.
I have all of the inks on this list 😂 Drew, you’re absolutely right about Rose Gold Antiqua especially-it’s one of my faves and truly unique even in my ludicrously large collection of shimmers. Now when are you guys going to get some Robert Oster Exclusives? Shimmering ones would be especially 🔥
@@Gouletpens I think one needs to be called Cerulean Crayon in honor of Brian falling in love with what is now Goulet Blue. Like his beloved Blue Water Ice but with shimmer, or something along those lines. Ones based off your Benu exclusives would also be super fun (I still need the perfect match for my Cookies 'n' Cream Milkshake!).
I just noticed that you've gone 4k. Awesome. It looks wonderful. Now we'll be able to look at all the pretty pens and other things you show us in stunning 4k. Makes me very happy. 😍
Drew, just got Winter Spice ... thanks to you! EDIT: some of my favorites in my collection ... Emerald of Chicken of course ;), Diamine Happy Holidays (permanently in my TWSBI VAC 700), Diamine Enchanted Ocean, Diamine Arabian Nights and Herbin Stormy Grey. I've also used samples of Night Sky, Arctic Blue, and Shimmering Seas by Diamine!
I recently got the Colorverse 2023 New Year as my first full bottle with shimmer. I'm really enjoying it so far. A gorgeous green ink with super fine shimmer that just makes it glisten.
Drew, you are such an inkabler! I agree that the Jacques Herbin inks have the most subtle shimmer. I love their Violet Impérial, a gorgeous blue-toned purple with beautiful silver; and their Kyanite du Népal which is such a beautiful turquoise with silver shimmer too. Oh, and their gold-shimmering Bleu Océan, classy and subtle. When I'm in a glitzy mood, the Diamine shimmering inks really do it for me. Blue Lightning is a fabulous silver-shimmer turquoise, more in-your-face than the Herbin Kyanite du Népal. Cobalt Jazz is a great, sparkly cobalt, mood-lifting and-as it says!-jazzy. If it's true, bright red I'm after, Diamine's Firestorm Red is perfect: ticks that box and has loads of silver shimmer as well. And for bright green with silver, Magical Forest is... well, magical! Can't wait to test-drive some of the ones you recommended too! Another great video-huge thanks! Write on!
I love Kyanite du Nepal! I've had it inked up in a Benu Grand Scepter for like six months and even when it sits for weeks at a time, it always writes immediately and maintains that beautiful shimmer.
What paper do you use for these videos? When you do these, can you tell us what paper you are using? These are great videos, and I always look forward to the next one...wonder what Drews going to do next? So cool!!!!!
My favorite shimmer right now is Diamine's Peacock Flare; dark teal that sheens purple with silver shimmer. It's amazing! Wine Divine is a close second. Dark red with gold shimmer. Mm. Good stuff.
When i write or Draw with a dip pen, i tend to make my own ink or use the cheap pot i have had for years. I think i need to reconsider that, cause these look amazing.
I regularly use Diamine Winter Spice (without agitation) in some of my dryer fine nibbed pens. It's a lovely brown ink that I use daily. As a bonus, it allows me to save the shimmer for when I need it, so my dip pens win too 😊
Thanks Drew for your shimmering ink recommendations. As others have mentioned Pelican Edelstein Golden Beryl, I have this one and it has a lot of character - you may want to revisit that one. I have several of your recommendations and really do love Rose Gold Antiqua. I have bought a couple samples of your recommendations before getting a full bottle. Now I have a few I missed and will need to get samples, Thanks again for your recommendations but you know 8 is just not enough!.
Yeah this year's inkvent had some real show stoppers in it. Currently have Spiced Apple in a Benu- go big or go home! But I think I use Yule Log most. It's a very gentle color for a shimmer.
Diamine Tempest 😱 It’s a dark teal blue with a gold shimmer. During the day it looks like a black, when I shine my flashlight on it, it’s a teal blue black with gorgeous shimmer.
It's not the main point of the video, but you brought it up a couple of times, and I also love that halo effect! You definitely need high quality paper to experience it, and even then it's not super consistent. It's kinda like a very specific form of shading with a touch of sheen, I guess? It's lovely whenever it works out.
I recently used my first shimmer ink. I put it in an Eco. It clogged, of course. That was two cleanings, pen flushes, and two inkings ago. The shimmer is still in there. Every ink I’ve used in that pen since then has suddenly become a shimmer ink! I’m just not gonna use shimmer inks in fountain pens anymore. They clog stuff up. The shimmery bits in the barrel don’t ever seem to go away. This is what dip pens are for.
My favorite shimmer in is Ferris Wheel Press’s Blue Beryl Tonic. It’s a periwinkle ink with rose gold shimmer. I am so obsessed with how beautiful it is
So enjoyed this video on these lovely inks! I already have a few that you mentioned and after seeing your samples, looks like I’ll be adding all of your other suggestions to my stash here real soon! 👍🙌 Thanks!
Thank you for giving some love to Shimmering Seas! It’s what I put in the first broad nib I bought and I was blown away. It also has pretty shading. 💙✨
Two of my favorite shimmer inks are Colorverse Cat and Diamine Dragon's blood! And of course the ever popular Emerald of Chivor. I've not seen Winter Spice before though! I'll definitely need a sample of that in my next order.
YES, Winter Spice is the bomb!! It's smooth, crazy gorgeous, unlike any other ink I own and, for a shimmering sheener, not fussy at all! I can't stop writing with it in a stub nib. In case you haven't noticed, I'm a fan.
The only drawback to these inks is that if you're only using them to write the shimmer effect is not visible and more important, if you touch it the shimmer in any way it just wipes away and you're just left with the ink itself. You absolutely have to use some sort of fixative to keep it stable in any way.
Two more for your consideration : J Herbin Stormy Grey - an elegant but dramatic gray ink with fine gold shimmer. My other favorite is Organic Studios Alanine, the complete opposite of "well-behaved" Stormy Grey - so thick it's almost sticky, and takes forever to dry - there's so many things going on with the teal, reddish sheen, and silver shimmer but it's beautiful.
Hi Drew, i have many inks from your list, golden sands i use for all my card writing especially ! I do not have winter spice, and that one i will need for sure and probably the Australian Antigua hummmm i don’t need any more inks but while they are still around …… Have a good weekend!
Team Winter Spice! I love that weirdo ink. I don't know what spice they were thinking of... cardamom pods, maybe? And I have renamed it Winter Thaw in my brain because to me it looks like the spring peeking through the snow. Ultimately, it's pleasant to read later. That is ink's most important job.
Great video, Drew. Try pronouncing it as "Ozzy" Liquid Gold, not so much as "Orsee" Liquid Gold. Looking forward to seeing you and Brian coming to Australia one day to visit Robert Oster and doing a video. 😉
Drew, Loved this video and your choices! When we lived down-under (Perth, Melbourne, and Adelaide) we realized that the Australian pronunciation of Aussie is “Ozzie.”👍 We made some wonderful “true blue” lifelong friends and every time I pull out a bottle from my favorite collection of Robert Oster I reminisce on the absolutely gorgeous, crystal clear beaches of Perth and Rottnest, the lush green countryside around Adelaide, and the magnificent old architecture of Melbourne proper. I, too, would love for you all to do a video on the Robert Oster inks. I would enjoy learning more about the company.
Golden Sands seems to have shading, in addition to the shimmer, while the Liquid Gold doesn't have as much shading. I prefer the Diamine, but I'd probably use the Liquid Gold for any calligraphy-based stuff, as I prefer a lower amount of shading for any calligraphy stuff.
What about from the wearingeul brand? Doesn’t seem like it’s talked about on this channel or at least not from the vids I’ve seen. Perhaps a review of some of their inks?
I have started to use fountain pen ink to paint with, and these will be so much fun…. I do not want start another collection with those ridiculously gorgeous bottles. This is getting out of hand 🤪I enjoy your nice, short videos.
I just went through a sample of Diamine Winter Spice. I loved it, all the brown, blue and greens. Going to pick me up a bottle next time I place an order. Also love the video 🤩
I have bottles of Amethyste de l'Oural and Diamine Enchanted Ocean. I don't quite have the hang of shimmer inks, but I sure like looking at these two. Thank you for the instructional videos!
I dabble in calligraphy. I use metallic paint, inks, and gouache. Could you please do swatches of these inks on a black background, especially the gold ones?
Yaaaaaaaaay for you mentioning Winter Spice. And here I thought I was the only one who appreciated it. I'm a recent shimmer ink convert (sheen still being my favorite ink characteristic) but I'm loving them! Especially these three, in no particular order: Diamine Starlit Sea, Dominant Industry Autumn Forest and Diamine Garland. Question for you, Drew, if you don't mind: do you or Brian know if Diamine has ever discontinued an ink? I know they've been around for donkeys years but I can't remember them ever pulling a Montblanc on us and discontinuing an ink overnight, unannounced, sending many ink lovers across the globe into a state of utter depression, but there's a first time for everything. The mere thought of losing Majestic Blue, Ancient Copper or Garland is enough to make me slightly nervous. *reaches for a paper bag*. It's okay, I'm cool, I'm cool. 😬
Lol hang in there, I think you're safe. I know we've discontinued some, but I don't recall Diamine ever stopping production on one. I'll ask around! - Drew
I've had a bottle of Diamine Golden Sands for many years, and got a sample of Robert Oster Liquid Gold. Diamine's gold definitely wins for me, because the Liquid Gold honestly looks a little icky in shade to me and I'm not a big fan of the silver glitter in there. But hey, it's down to preference, right? Nice to see an ink I have here!
I noticed you're using the Herbin glass dip pen. Does it come with a sharp tip like in the video? If not, can you post a tutorial on how to sand them that way? My current glass dip pen don't have line variations like yours do. @The Goulet Pen Company
I would call #8 a draw. But if I had to choose I would choose Robert Oster's Aussie Liquid Gold. I have a bottle of Emerald of Chivor, and it is truly awesome.
I told myself I have to finish up my samples before buying any more ink. Emerald of Chivor is on my full bottle list and all the other are now on the sample list 🤣
It would be fun to try and pull out a slice of Edelstein Golden Beryl for a head-to-head with Golden Sands. So much shimmer in it that you'd probably be better off using a butter knife than a glass pen, and smearing it on the page like it's a piece of toast. It's a fun ink, completely unreadable for me because of my poor vision, but if you want All Of The Shimmer, it's worth a mention... if you can find anywhere still selling it.
Actually, I don't like & don't need shimmer inks. Watching this coz how fun Drew in every video...as always!!! Which make this chanel is the most shimmering fountain pen channel 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you for all the great videos. I use fountain pens for writing and rapidograph pens for drawing. Do you have any suggestions for fountain pen inks that are safe for rapidograph pens? Thank you.
A brown shimmer ink? I don't use my regular brown ink (forgive me for calling it regular... It just looks brown to me). Thanks for confirming my choice of golden sands in last week's order of inks! For anyone looking for a great aqua shimmer ink, I've been loving Diamine Subzero. 🙌
Favorite shimmer is Diamine pink champagne - beautiful even if I can’t see the shimmer, and my new love is Robert oyster Schwartz rose that one’s a clogger 😭 forgot about golden sands…is it time to purchase?
Before you wrote “Aussie Liquid Gold” I thought you were saying “Ostie Liquid Gold”, like giving Robert Oster a nickname 😂 thanks for the video!! I’m hyped to try some shimmer inks now!
I just bought two inexpensive glass dip pens off of Amazon. I am new to this type of pen. Am I supposed to hold the pen so far back on the “barrel”? I’ve been holding it closer to the widest part…. I was also thinking of getting a pen with a stub nib for these shimmer and sheen inks. Is that a good idea? I am new to pens and inks so I have a lot to learn! Thanks in advance if anyone has suggestions!
Nooooooo. You missed Diamine Cocoa Shimmer. It's perfect in the Benu Euphoria Iced Caramel Latte. I do have all of the inks on this list so that must say something about me.
I have tried a few shimmer and even mega sheeners.... I just get frustrated and annoyed by the smearyness and hassal cleaning 🤷♂️ I love the idea, just not the practicality.
Golden Sands is like 18 to 24 karat gold, while Aussie gold is like 12 to 14 karat gold. They are both gold but Golden Sands has the “purer” amount of “gold.”
No question, the Frenchie green job is the one I’ve tried. Trouble is, only blackmailers write in green ink ( shimmering or not ). All good, though, Drew, all good ( if a little camp ).
Diamine has Golden Ivy, which is a medium green with gold shimmer, and Golden Oasis, which is a more spring green with gold shimmer. You can also get a gold shimmer potion from Colorverse and add it to your favorite green ink for your own custom color.
@@xilebat Forgot to mention before--Kiwi Inks does custom inks, so if you have the hex code of the official color, they can make you something specifically. You can even specify how much shimmer and how wet or dry you want the ink to be.
Any of these will work well in a fine nib - I happen to have Winter Spice in a fine nib right now, and it's been great! That one is probably a good choice for a professional environment, as well. - Drew
If we are going to mess around with fancy pens that are less convenient than a roller gel, we might as well use inks that invoke an element of mystery and intrigue.
Couldnt have been said better :)
Thanks for the video!
💯
The sparkliest thing in this video is Drew’s personality.
Come up with a drew shimmering ink sample set and I for sure will buy😀
I was summoned with the phrase “shimmering and fabulous.”
👁️👄👁️
“Magical journey through the shimmerlands” 😂 LOVE IT
My current fave shimmer is Colorverse Witch by Starlight. Such drama queen behavior for gorgeous dramatic ink 🤩
That one is magnificent! - Drew
@@Gouletpens Ordered Witch by Starlight along with Buttered Popcorn today. Now who could have convinced me to do that, I wonder.
Love that one too!!
How about a part 2?
Edelstein Golden Beryl is something i prefer for gold on gold. Van Diemans parrot fish has been on my watchlist for quite sometime.
Another vote for Golden Beryl! I don't think it's available to buy anymore though? So maybe why it didn't make the list, I guess.
@@raggsj38 probably 👍
Yes another vote here for Golden Beryl! I am already over halfway through my bottle, and it’s just absolutely fabulous.
Love Golden Beryl as well!
Yes, Golden Beryl is amazing! I did choose to avoid limited editions for this list, though. - Drew
Wearingeul needs to make this list! Their shimmer is so intense and distinct and well dispersed 😍
Thanks for sharing. I'm new to shimmer inks and they're absolutely lovely. Have to get them as much as possible
I’m very fond of Violet Clouds.
Great video Drew!
Thanks for watching! - Drew
I recently acquired some Pelikan Edelstein Golden Beryl and that is a beautiful gold ink. My nomination for my favourite shimmering ink thought would be Vinta inks Julio, a multi-chromic blue/pink with silver shimmer is perfection.
^^ this ^^
Golden Beryl is the Goldest of the Gold inks. There is no comparison.
Diamine Winter Spice is so multi-faceted!!! First time seeing it! Thanks Drew!
IT'S SO GOOOOD! - Drew
OH, and if I can suggest another unusual but stunning ink -- Diamine Vintage Copper from the Red 2021 Inkvent is amazing. I don't normally go for brown/orangey colors but I couldn't stop staring at it.

Diamine Solar Storm--didn't think I'd love it. Eggplant colour and green shimmer. It's amazing and it shows up differently on different paper.

Winter spice is nice but I LOVE LOVE LOVE their new chameleon inks that we’re in this years calendar. I think arctic blast was my favorite

Thanks for watching! - Drew
The one ink that Drew didn’t review is diamine platinum jubilee. That has shimmer on steroids and makes all other inks weep.
Thank you for all the great videos. I use fountain pens for writing and rapidograph pens for drawing. Do you have any suggestions for fountain pen inks that are safe for rapidograph pens? Thank you.
Shimmer me Timbers
A brown shimmer ink? I don't use my regular brown ink (forgive me for calling it regular... It just looks brown to me).
Thanks for confirming my choice of golden sands in last week's order of inks!
For anyone looking for a great aqua shimmer ink, I've been loving Diamine Subzero. 🙌
Favorite shimmer is Diamine pink champagne - beautiful even if I can’t see the shimmer, and my new love is Robert oyster Schwartz rose that one’s a clogger 😭 forgot about golden sands…is it time to purchase?
What about Diamine gold star and RO heart of gold
Before you wrote “Aussie Liquid Gold” I thought you were saying “Ostie Liquid Gold”, like giving Robert Oster a nickname 😂 thanks for the video!! I’m hyped to try some shimmer inks now!
Haha! Now I'm going to think of that every time I see it! :) - Drew
That's a good one as well! - Drew
I have tried a few shimmer and even mega sheeners.... I just get frustrated and annoyed by the smearyness and hassal cleaning 🤷♂️ I love the idea, just not the practicality.
That's a fair conclusion! - Drew
I wish Lamy still made the petrol ink. It was nice.
There is no video About 'tips for writing faster with fountain pen ' pls upload
Now we need the most sheen of the sheen’s
Golden Sands is like 18 to 24 karat gold, while Aussie gold is like 12 to 14 karat gold. They are both gold but Golden Sands has the “purer” amount of “gold.”
Hi! Are they permanent inks? Thanks!
Nope.
Wearingeul I Am A Cat is the most stupendous shimmer ink!
No question, the Frenchie green job is the one I’ve tried. Trouble is, only blackmailers write in green ink ( shimmering or not ). All good, though, Drew, all good ( if a little camp ).
Is there a green ink with gold shimmer (no other colors)?
My Alma Mater (Baylor) is green and gold.
Ferris Wheel Press - Sunlit Jade could be something you'd enjoy.
@@Severus34564 I’m on the case. Thanks!!
Diamine has Golden Ivy, which is a medium green with gold shimmer, and Golden Oasis, which is a more spring green with gold shimmer. You can also get a gold shimmer potion from Colorverse and add it to your favorite green ink for your own custom color.
@@karibean13 Wow, Thanks!
@@xilebat Forgot to mention before--Kiwi Inks does custom inks, so if you have the hex code of the official color, they can make you something specifically. You can even specify how much shimmer and how wet or dry you want the ink to be.
How well do these show, and flow, when using fine nibs? Also, which of these would you most recommend for a professional environment?
Any of these will work well in a fine nib - I happen to have Winter Spice in a fine nib right now, and it's been great! That one is probably a good choice for a professional environment, as well. - Drew
Why not Diamine Gold Star?
