I really appreciate your honest review, especially since the items were provided to you for free, which could easily make anyone more biased in favour, or more forgiving of the “cons”. I have a medium nib brush pen in the Salmon colour. I can let you know that the beautiful grip section and the bolt on the cap will patina over time. It’s not because of dipping in an ink bottle, because that bolt got the same patina colour. I think it could be cleaned, by whatever brass safe cleaning method; but I have not tried to shine it back up.
I love the Eaton (black) and the Evergreen colours of the pen; but it’s not my favourite steel nib (I have other brands of pens with steel nibs that I prefer), so for that price point of a pen it’s just not a nice enough nib writing experience, as much as I like the FWP design aesthetic.
I have many Ferris Wheel Press inks which I would definitely recommend - Roaring Patina Black, Sunlit Jade, and Edwards Gardens are my top 3 favourites, but certainly not the only great FWP inks. Like you, I prefer very “readable” coloured inks, as I primarily use them for writing in my journals or for writing letters. I even find Noodler’s Lexington Gray, Herbin Lie de The, and Robert Oster Viola too light/faint coloured for writing (and they have been tried on very Broad, wet nibs, as well as Medium and Fine nibs). I keep trying to like lighter inks, but they aren’t useful for me. There is definitely a trend right now for such light/faint inks, even Sailor is on that bandwagon, probably because of the shading quality, and a variety of light colours have been produced by Ferris Wheel Press…but there are also other FWP inks that I would definitely include amongst my top recommendations for serious writing sessions.

I love Ferris Wheel Press, but I’ve had the same issues with their fountain pens, every time I unscrewed the pen, it came apart 🙄…they sent me a new one also. And I agree with you about their inks (their swatches). I have several of their inks, including the new Fashion collection, and I’m not impressed by them. I feel like they’re big on their packaging but the actual products lack a certain pizazz, for me. Great 👍🏽 video, thank you 🙏 for your honest thoughts.

Thanks so much! Moss Park Green has been turning out darker with the more recent pen they sent me, which I like. Interested to try it out in a broader nib too to see how that affects the saturation! I've really been liking it the more I write with it. It's a delicate balance because I love pastels too, I just am not as happy with them when writing out paragraphs (and it depends on the paper too!).

Thank you for your review and demonstrations! I backed their first ink Kickstarter about 4 years ago and love to see that they have grown so much. (I got the 85ml bottle of Tanzanite Sky and love to write with it in a pilot metropolitan pen with medium italic nib) But now with so many ink choices it is hard to know what to choose. I appreciate your examples and information about how the lighter inks may not be as good for writing from a fountain pen as with a dip pen. I look forward to seeing more videos with their ink. And that ferris wheel press pen is really pretty!

    • @JournalSunshine
      @JournalSunshine  2 года назад +1

Yes! It depends on the pen you use too, with a broader nib they come out darker because more ink gets out and a finer nib tends to make the ink look lighter. The websites don’t always show you what both look like.

Don't spend that kind of money for what you can get for pennies on the dollar. Ferris wheel press gets their products from Singapore. That's where their pens are made. The lens are sold in China for $2.00 whereas ferris wheel press charges $169.00 for the exact same pen. The ink one can buy on aliexpress for $3.00 a bottle. Whereas ferris wheel press charges over $20.00 for 20ml. That's more than a dollar a ml.i don't mind buying local and helping privately owned companies but being taken advantage of is something else entirely.
Also; aask yourself, if the RUclipsr didn't find the product good enough to pay for it, why should you?

For pastel colors I tried Lady Rose and I love it, specially with broader nibs or even the 1.1 stub nibs on tomoe river paper. I personally paired it with a Faber Castell Hexe in gold pink. Faber Castell tends to make broader nibs and an F is close to an M on other brands, specially with a wet ink.
For the green, ...Peter Moss is the one that I tried, I paired it with my Lamy Safari Savannah. A perfect match for me. It's darker than the one you are showing but still has this greyish effect.
I was curious about the shimmering ink... was it easy to clean? Shimmer is usually difficult to clean, but some brands are worst than others... is it closer to the J herbin 1670 inks (less consistent but easier to clean) or the Diamine shimmering inks (more consistent sparkles but more issues when cleaning)?

If the RUclipsr wouldn't pay for the product, why should you? If it isn't good enough for them to purchase why in the hell would it be good enough for you to spend your hard earned money on?
Also, ferris wheel press buys their products from Singapore. Then up-charges. The pen is made in Singapore. It's sold in China for $2.00 yet fwp charges over $100.00.
Which explains the inconsistent quality. One nib might be more fine than the next. Which she doesn't mention. Negate inconsistent quality is the trope with Chinese pens. Not knocking Chinese pens. I have many and prefer to pay for those than be over charged by these bullshit companies youtubers regurgitate like mockingbirds. Monkey see monkey do I guess. They'll also be the first ppl to spew individuality as well. Cracks me up how phoney baloney these commercial makers are. Integrity bought for the price of an Asian made pen and ink.
Not one RUclipsr I've seen paid for the products they advertise and make money off of. If you are naive enough to buy this stuff from fwp then by all means go for it. However, aliexpress sells the same ink for a few dollars a bottle. The exact same ink fwp charges over a dollar a ml. I know because I purchased a 20ml ink from fwp and the same ink from aliexpress. I paid $22 for 20ml from fwp. I paid $3.00 from aliexpress. Then I tested and compared both down to the chemical level. Exact same ink.

@@s.n.11 no the packaging isn't the same. Nor the marketing. Not even close, but I want willing to pay extra for a pretty box. I did however buy one ink for testing. I also bought an empty bottle. Because it was pretty.
Yeah I wouldn't buy Mont blanc either. I also won't hire anyone whom uses mint blanc. Iwon't even allow interns that use mb. Mainly because I want and need free thinkers not followers. I need people whom know how to think instead of what to think. I want diversity of mind. I get ever so excited when I see an intern or first year using a knock off or duped fp. Why? Because that tells me they are A) still willing to explore
      B) not a flower
      C) they are careful with their money therefore they are more likely to be careful with my money.
As for testing there are several ways a chemist tests liquids. There is Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, Mass Spectrometry, Tandem Mass Spectrometry, Liquid Chromatography - Tandem Mass Spectrometry, vibrational spectroscopy, fluorescence, viscosity, headspace Gas Chromatography.
For an art home easy testing there's density testing. Where you can test the mass and density of the liquid. Chromatography is inexpensive and will give you hints of what's in there as far as colors. If you have a true curiosity in the subject I suggest starting with a search engine. Many questions can be answered with it. Then the public libraries; Treasures they are. My favorite way to learn is to acquire the syllabus from every university in your area. Then go to a campus bookstore and purchase the textbooks. Believe it or not most ivy league universities record their lectures / classes to upload to the web. One can acquire a free ivy league education on any subject they want from the comfort of home. You don't get the university credit of course unless you pay. You can however receive a course completion document if you pass the exams.

I've been using Ferris Wheel Press pens for a couple of years. Unfortunately with the same problem (for one of them) as you describe. This pen was an exchange pen, 2 years ago, for one that on which the grey plastic cover inside the cap got stuck on the nib. In the end it was impossible to uncap the pen. I then really didn't have the energy to ask for another exchange... It seems as if they have some quality issues to attend to if the problem still exists. But I adore the look of the pens, and I have Ferris Wheel Press pens that do work.

For example, you can use pure white and more absorbent paper as they work better with them too.
I liked their pastel inks, like the morningside mint and the lady rose, and other non-pastel colors like the petermoss green are also great for me... I tried the brand not-so-long ago and I like it and I'm willing to see what else they have to offer.
I tried the sailor yurameku inks too which are also kind of pastelish and I'm liking these ones better. Except for the haha (manyo sailor), which in my opinion wins over blue cotton candy, but they are pretty close.
Maybe is because I like the drier inks more than the wet ones.

Fuliwen Shanghai is the OEM of this pen, "Brush". Fuliwen itself also carries this same model as it's own pen named "Fuliwen 014 'Scale' ". (fish scale, reptile scale) The marking on the metal section is far, far less complicated, only the name of the company. An "F" inside a circle is engraved on one side of the six sides of the hexagon bolt ring. The imprint on the nib is Fuliwen's own design. The Fuliwen shop on Taobao offers three colours: teal, yellow and white. Priced at ¥120.00.

I Adore Ferris wheel Press- I have several of the ink colors but none of the pens yet. It is a lovely pen- love that grip section. One thing that I don't like about their ink bottles, specifically the 38ml bottles is the design. I have tipped them over in the filling process so many times!! They are just too narrow. I don't know if the larger bottles are better. I also think that rubber stopper is ESSENTIAL to keep- I didn't get one on my first bottle of their ink, and it leaks anytime it falls over *with the lid screwed on even!*
Your Moss Park Green ink looks WAY lighter than mine! Maybe it was an inconsistent batch.

I had the same issue with my Ferris Wheel Press pen. It is a gorgeous pen and I do enjoy writing with it but it is annoying. I've had better luck with the Carousel Fountain Pen. The casing on it is plastic so it doesn't feel as lux but the Carousel writes very smooth. They also make a tester size trio of ink which I find helpful in picking colors without committing to the big bottles.

I hate say it but other reviews have cited the screwing off issue too. For situations in life where things are coming unscrewed a lot, fyi, a drop of clear nail polish on the threads can stabilize things without creating an issue when you need to unscrew it on purpose. In case people have bought this and found that to be an issue it might be easier than hunting down customer service and waiting on repairs
