I have one of these pens (not gold-plated nib) and I love it. As a woman, my hands are a little more petite than yours David, but, while I love all your videos and the pens you review, I find many of them to be a little too large for my comfort for long writing sessions. I totally understand that you would review pens that, for the most part, fit your hand. It's nice though, to see a pen that fits a slightly smaller hand. Thank you so much! Happy New Year!

I'm a card carrying member of the tiny hands club as well. Petite pens really are unicorns. That might honestly be the reason I stick mostly to vintage pens. Too many of today's pens look comically large in my Barbie hands 😂 This is a nice one! I do hope they make a straight up copper one though.

Fuliwen Shanghai is the OEM of this pen, "Brush". Fuliwen itself also carries this same model as it's own pen named "Fuliwen 014 'Scale' ". (fish scale, reptile scale) The marking on the metal section is far, far less complicated, only the name of the company. An "F" inside a circle is engraved on one side of the six sides of the hexagon bolt ring. The imprint on the nib is Fuliwen's own design. The Fuliwen shop on Taobao offers three colours: teal, yellow and white. Priced at ¥120.00.

That single brass nut make the overall pen's aesthetics to the next level of beauty. A classic design with a blend of minimal industrial elements not only makes this pen a contemporary beauty but also a functional roll-stopper or maybe acts as a stand that the pen could parallelly stand without touching the nib to the surface/desk. And those engravings on the nib, section, and prints on the packaging make it a wonderful artistic feel to it. And I love this lord green colour with the gold-coloured brass nut, section, and nib. Lovely pen. Greeting from India.

Ferris Wheel Press keeps trumpeting that they're a Canadian company as part of their marketing but the Brush is made in China. At 160$, there are way better options out there with proper gold nibs.

The Brush has a lot of similarity to a Chinese LD, but the nib might be a Schmidt. They're known for no breather hole.
The LD? Has a "Genius iridium" nib, and I got mine for free plus shipping. Very similar to the Brush...
It's like a certain company that claims that they use an "Italian resin" and are made in Miami and are an identical pen to another from China...

Yeah ferris is definitely a social media brand, their ink is way overpriced for being nothing new and is put in fancy impractical bottles that look good only in photos. I'm also near sure that images of the ink that sellers use are heavily edited, making the ink look far different then it actually is. Got one of those small bottle sets from them and the ink was 10x darker in and out the bottle then what the initial images showed. The overly fancy engravings on this pretty cheap looking pen that is weighted by brass is what certainly seals the deal, and only a 30 dollar difference between steel and gold nibs is incredibly suspicious. Pretty much the Vincero of the pen world.

@@paulherman5822 you stole my words, Paul. Can't agree more. Some pens look cool on instagram feeds.
The only metal pen I own is parker 45 flighter, a couple of them.
The brass pes from China with 14/18KGP nibs are just scam. I doubt the brass content as well.

    • @dashsunil
      @dashsunil 2 года назад +1

I thought it is made in Canada. Thanks for letting us know.

    • @paulherman5822

@@dashsunil A clue to the Chinese origin was when it's supposed to be "copper." That's the usual poor translation from China for brass.
There's plenty of "multi cultural" pens out there. Italian pens with German workings, American ones made in India. And like I said, not always honest. Can get a "made in" on the box because the box was assembled in the supposed country of origin. Pretty sure that the "Italian resin, made in Miami" is like this. It's the identical "resin" (call it what it is. Plastic) as the Chinese version, and the only difference is the name inscribed. Not an unusual business practice, until people start to assume that, because the country of assembly (or final box) is one country, that's where it came from.
Even the modern steel nibbed Parker 51 may be guilty of this.

I really wish they’d release an unpainted, raw copper version of this pen. It’s gorgeous, but I can’t imagine the paint lasting long unblemished. And I adore copper *anything*. Knowing that there’s copper underneath that paint would kill me haha.

Just like everything else FWP makes, grossly overpriced for what it is. There's absolutely no reason this pen isn't under $100, given the materials used. You can buy two Conklin Duragraphs at full boat retail for this price, and likely get two pens that write better than this.

$160?! The section is beautiful but apart from that the design is pretty uninteresting. I’m also not a fan of thin pens but if I was I might be willing to spend $35 on it, definitely not $160 or even $135.
    Great review as always.

i agree, the gold plated nib thing feels like a ripoff with how it is presented. It shouldn't be costing this much for a steel nib and body material, even the kaweco sport brass goes for like 80 dollars compared to the 160 dollar price tag of this one

I don’t know why, but the over-the -top marketing, branding and packaging is a turn off for me, it feels like a university group project for a Business degree program (let’s create a story, and how many boxes can we tick to draw the customer in). Noodlers is more interesting to me, and a great value product too. Lamy to me has it right: quality, craftsmanship and style, and no over-the-top antics, additionally they have a quality product at a price range for everyone, and it’s made in their country of origin and their price is still reasonable to me, (ps, I’m Canadian).

@Bruno Desrosiers pens are designed in Canada, made in China. The website does not state that the ink is made in Canada, there is no reference to where it is made (and I don’t own any of their inks to check the packaging).

Interesting that you are having the experience of the section coming slightly unscrewed when unscrewing the cap. That is not a problem that I've had with mine. I purchased my pen over a year ago. Maybe something happened with this new batch of pens in the manufacturing process.

I find the name confusing, since this is not a brush pen. The shape is reminiscent of very early Mabie Todds and such. Looks like a desk pen, despite it's size.

Thanks for the review, Dave! Special pen - but do not quite know if this is a pen for my taste. In any case, it's nice to get such reviews - then you become more aware of your own desires.
Out of sheer curiosity - what's the thing with the stack of Rubik's cube in the background, the layout changes for each video you make .. Greetings from Helen i Norge

I am old enough to remember when Made In Japan indicated cheap schlock. Now it's a symbol of quality. Perhaps a few more decades and Made In China will also lose its stigma. It's already lost some; remember, iPhones are made in China.

Moonman and Jinhao are some of my favourite fountain pens (made in China), they always work and never disappoint. I gift Jinhao pens to people who have never used a fountain pen, the price allows me to do that….. and I know the pen will always work for the newbie and turn them into a fountain pen lover, just like my first Jinhao did for me 😁
