Peter, that was absolutely great. Its such a great subtext in this scene, and Freeman played it so well. It is so deep I felt it in my bones. This is truly cinema - less audio, more to see. If I may ask, what did you tell Freeman, that made that scene pop out.
I think I loved this scene so much because I spent so many years playing Dungeons & Dragons, and this is how so many epic adventures got started. A motley group of characters sitting around a table with food and drink, dreaming of gold and glory... awesome. These scenes in Bag End were by far my favorite in the film. :)
That is great Viacom actually blocked the other video. I think if the director releases a clip online I think it should be allowed to stay up.... Thank you Mr. Jackson it was a great movie
That's one positive way to describe what would you be if you lose a fight to a dragon. Flash of light, searing pain, then poof, you're nothing more than a pile of ash.
Watched it Friday night it was a great movie, maybe a little too much cgi but I loved it, my advice don't try comparing it to lotr, it is it's own movie
I think it's different, you get used to 48 fps (although at first I felt like they were showing the movie in fastforward, probably because I had seen it in 24 a week before), but I got used to it. But 3D still kinda hurts my eyes after a while, not to mention the glasses who sometimes don't fit on your face and you have to hold them for 3hours otherwise they fall (or prevent you from breathing)
Until now I would have agreed with you. Most 3D movies, unless completely CG have been very hard to watch; movies made in "fake 3D" like clash of the titans even more so. The Hobbit shows that 3D cinema has a future. Part of this is the fact that 48fps makes the temporal flicker that tends to screw with your eyes during action scenes less noticable, and the second is that the crew really knew what they were doing and made the most of what they had to play with.
no, sorry, i like good used 3d, but seeing the hobit, as a big LotR and tolkien fan overall, sometimes the framerate made it look to real, and i'm pretty sure peter didn't use as many actors for the orcs as in Lord of the rings, it seems many of the mass fight scenes are much more computer made than in the rings trilogy, probably because of the framerate, except for that, what a masterpiece he created.
Yo Peter! Just saw the midnight release. I think the entire theater was in agreeance that you stuck well with the book, yet you emphasized way too greatly on things that were barely a mention in The Hobbit (Radagast, The Necromancer, Oakenshield Lore, exe). You also involved Lord of the Rings characters that were not in The Hobbit. Everyone read the book when they were young, it used to be required reading. Adding this made a lot of people tilt their heads in question. In GA it rated 40/100.
This film was absolutely fantastic. The Goblin King was a bit too much of a comic-relief, but, seeing as the book itself is a light-hearted, fun children's book, it still works as a whole. Saw it in 3D at 48FPS, and I must say, people should not be worried. It is easily the best 3D I have ever seen (better than Avatar by a long shot, by the way), and the 48FPS just makes the battle scenes more fluid at immersing.
Most of the complaints I've seen in-regard to 48 FPS is that it looks like a daytime TV. By this silly logic: if Day Time TV never excited; 48FPS would be fine. Yes, things evolve and people need to evolve with it. If 48 becomes standard, then we'll all be used to it at some point and think back to 24 as being for barbarians and savages.
Ha! This scene looks so weird in 24 2D now! 48 3D was GREAT. 5-15 min of adjustment and I was flying with it. The CGI blended with everything else seamlessly. Thank you Sir Peter Jackson for this Movie and the risk you take in doing something different in the name of progress in our entertainment. Thank You.
Saruman, your staff has been broken, also they were taking the hobbits to isengard, but before that was happening tha balrog of morgoth took Gandalf down with him in khazad dúm. but he came back from death and he beat your ass with treebeard and the ents, and the Huorns.
@Serpette94 you can buy all kinds of 3d glasses online, even films (like screen protectors) to sit over your prescriptions. I want to politely say that.. You're not forced to use the cinema's cheap 3d glasses, no more than you're forced to drink their overpriced softdrink!
If 3D is here to stay, which I don't think it is, I just hope movie goers will be given the option between nomal 2D and 3D. As long as 3D isn't shoved down our throats and made our only choice, then I suppose I don't really care one way or another.
On the 48 fps part, I agree. On the 3D part... 3D is a an irritating, unnecessary, headache-inducing, unenjoyable experience. I hope the fad dies quickly. It's been revived and buried about four times now. Hoping it stays there for a long time.
Seeing it tonight midnight showing in Maine! Can't wait I've been waiting like 9-10 years for this movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Since Return of the King) Thank you so much Mr. Jackson for bring us all back to Middle Earth for one last time!!! :)
I needed to sit tight and grip on the arm rests of my seat just to keep myself from jumping up and point to the screen and yell "It's Bilbo! It's Bilbo!" when I saw Master Holm. It's great to live in a country where you're a day ahead, aye?
It is an exaggeration, trust me. Seen it in 48 fps and it looked even more real as I sunk into middle-earth for the second time. Really, atleast try it- because at the very least you can enjoy the film again. =)
When you say complain, I hope you are referring to those who simply don't like it. You do know most charge 30% more!! yes 30% more for almost the same production cost. Next you'll be saying bluray vs HDDVD:0
If the fps causes any sickness it might also have to do with the dark theatre rooms your watching it in. And as for evolving, cameras "evolve" a million times faster then the eye and brain.
You've met him before Bilbo. Only then you were taller and didn't have hairy feet and he didn't breathe fire or have wings and a tail. It's just Sherlock, Watson no need to be afraid. :)
Funny Pete! Thanks for all the cool updates! Seems to me the aspect-ratio got botched when you published this to youtube.... looks smushed, but still awesome stuff! Martin is perfect!
I seriously doubt there'll be an extended edition. It was only one book to begin with, so the only reason they're making it 3 movies is so that they'll BE extended already.
You can still find the other video on Sr Peter Jackson's facebook page! But very true, Peter Jackson made the great thing he should be able to do what he wants with it!
Either you need glasses or the cinema in which you saw the movie didn't have the 48 fps-version of the film. (What I've heard not all cinemas will have the 48 fps version)
There will be a time when 3D needs no glasses. In fact, it is being developed by south korean researchers. I'm assuming that auto stereoscopy might arrive 2018.
Bilbo Baggins. The only person ever to read the terms and conditions.
Martin Freeman is the perfect Bilbo exactly how I imagined his character in the book!
"Oh, up to but not exceeding one fourteenth total profit if any. Seems fair."
I love that line. :D
"Think furnace with wings." roflmao
I could watch Bilbo faint over and over again. So funny! Poor dear.
At least bilbo actually read the terms and conditions
They left out "decapitation."
"you're alright laddy ?" XD
Bilbo: Nope. (He passed out)
I favorite in this Part is Bofur XD he's so funny :'-)
0:41
Somehow, someway, I will have that hat.
"Think a furnace with wings."
I absolutely loved the film and I thought the art direction was just fantastic. Can't wait for the next one!
just watched the film, AMAZING. Thanks for bringing me back to Middle Earth. Love your work
Who enforces this contract? What court would bilbo be taken to? Dwarf court? Hobbit court? Middle earth metropolitan police court?
"You're of great help Bofur !"
Peter, that was absolutely great. Its such a great subtext in this scene, and Freeman played it so well. It is so deep I felt it in my bones. This is truly cinema - less audio, more to see. If I may ask, what did you tell Freeman, that made that scene pop out.

I know, right?
Love it! Can't wait to see it. "Think furnace with wings!" LOL!
That is great Viacom actually blocked the other video. I think if the director releases a clip online I think it should be allowed to stay up.... Thank you Mr. Jackson it was a great movie
hey mate , now check both trailers and you will see a ot of deleted scenes xD can't wait for extendend version
That's one positive way to describe what would you be if you lose a fight to a dragon. Flash of light, searing pain, then poof, you're nothing more than a pile of ash.
For some reason i have no interest in seeing this movie.
Watched it Friday night it was a great movie, maybe a little too much cgi but I loved it, my advice don't try comparing it to lotr, it is it's own movie
Something tells me the only reason bilbo was crafty around smaug was because he was wearing the ring
I like how he turns around so he faints onto the carpet.
3D sucks... if it's not in 48FPS. I think 3D has been waiting for this framerate to happen.
When ever I sit down and watch The Office I'll look at Tim and just think of Bilbo.

Best description of a dragon by Bofur : Think furnace, with wings.

you cant imagine how many dragons i killed in skyrim
great movie, as good as lotr, i feel sorry for the complainers
If the fps causes any sickness it might also have to do with the dark theatre rooms your watching it in. And as for evolving, cameras "evolve" a million times faster then the eye and brain.
my wife Suzi cramp saw your movie the hobbit and she love it.
You've met him before Bilbo. Only then you were taller and didn't have hairy feet and he didn't breathe fire or have wings and a tail. It's just Sherlock, Watson no need to be afraid. :)

I do remember now that there was some kind of agreement. and Bilbo could take anything he wanted, but just one single thing. and he picked arkenston
Saw it today i'll be honest, some parts are really cool. But other parts are not that well put together, I miss the real actors as the enemies.
No one decides anything, this stuff is almost entirely automated. It happens. Kinda shitty, but usually it's not the fault of who you think it is.
the dragons the least of his worries as soon as i get a hold of him, stupid fat hobbit, false tricksy! he stole it from us... THE PRECIOUS!
Well, mr Jackson if you reading this, how much does a hobbit hole cost if its open?? I really want to live there for the rest of my life!!
jajajajaja that`s great!! wonderful i have no words to describe it!! i just can`t wait!!! one more day, it is frustraiting this waiting!!!
.. and those who complained about picture movies before!
The last time that was allowed to happen with free reign, we got George Lucas' never-ending Director's Cuts of the Star Wars films...
i remember how much everyone was laughing in the cinema at this bit!
Peter Jackson please comment to me it would be a dream come true. And I just wanted to ask how is post-production going
The ammount of spoilers in the comments is to high!
i wish james nesbitts part wasnt so overused in the trailers would have been good to hear it in the cinema first
I think 48 fps is brilliant. It is the next big thing I am worried about ;) I do not know what it is yet though.
Bilbo's like: Yeah, yeah, I'm good- NOPE.
Bilbo is a letter away from becoming a toy. I would love to see a Ork or goblin make fun of Bilbo's name!
I hope this movie becomes the movie of the year because it realy deservs it. Thank you Peter Jackson!
Tell me where is Gandalf ? For I much desire to speak with him !
He owns me a new staff >:(
Lol lol lol dwarf: ya will bur yer balls off in a blink of an eye
Bilbo: wait what
Me: haha
Im gonna see it in a couple hours so excited
200 th comment peter. A reply would be good.
There you go.
@@ouncy not from you
omfg everyone is suitably alarmed, and then Thorin just rolls his eyes
"hobbits, ugh..."
We could have used more dwarf warriors :)
While it does look good, i enjoyed it just as much seeing it in normal frame rate.
bilbo seems perfect......buuuut... those dwarves don't seem like dwarves....at all.
And don't worry, Bilbo: It's just Sherlock. Only he learned how to breath fire...
best movie ever and desolation of smaug is gonna be better holy fuck that dragon
Where? On Metacritic it is the opposite
This whole "fictional characters on RUclips" thing has gotten out of hand...
Good guy Bilbo, the only one that actually reads the terms and conditions.
whats it like in 48 fps? i saw it in 2D and the film was fuckin awsome..
Dragons? Dragons are no more. They've been gone for centuries, now. :)
One does not simply compare a TRASH to an EPIC movie, F**k the critics
Get back into your tower that you were given to protect, foul wizard!
It's right, you really see all. You see every LotR-Video at RUclips!
i think what makes it amazing is the accent. Irish at it's finest :)
People still complain about 3D... They force you to wear classes ffs!
Yeah Just A Little Tiny Dragon..
I wish I could see the 48fps. No where around me is it playing. :(
makes me giggle hard every time i see it................hehehe
still going to eventually watch all 6 in one go in early
2015
When will people stop it with these unoriginal fucking jokes?
Stark, aren't ya' on a wrong set? got yourself lost again.
Hello... this is youtube. Are u new here? Get used to it^^.
I see you in the comments of these vidoes far too much LOL
well said. i thought the 48fps was magnificent personally.
