- The siege of Eshowe took place during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. The siege was part of a three-pronged attack on the Zulu Impis of king Cetshwayo at Ulundi. After an incursion as far as Eshowe Colonel Charles Pearson was besieged there for two months by the Zulus.

I have to say it. I'm cutting through these vids like a hot knife through butter! Great research, great editing. It's captivating, accurate, and fun. Thanks for the hard work.
That's great to hear thanks a lot! More Zulu vids coming soon
😂
Getting better and better mate!
Cheers mate
The Zulus engaging in long range siege warfare with firearms is an aspect of this war that's not really examined but this siege provides quite the example especially before the relief and final Zulu charge. Vague orders and lack of information is a worse enemy to any commander.
Thanks for watching man
Yes, I agree with you, maybe I should make this topic the subject of my second video!
TRUE. ALTHOUGH A GOOD COMMANDER WOULD MAKE UP HIS OWN ORDERS.
The Zulus almost always attacked in advancing lines, on which concentrated rifle fire was effective. Once the Gatling gun became more prevalent, it had an even greater effect on Zulu attacking formations, causing very heavy losses.
My guy keep this up I love this I hope you remember me
Cheers man😁
I love you!!!!!
I'm really enjoying your videos. Can you do one based on Custer's Last Stand?
Thank you! I was never aware of this battle but now reading into it, it seems like something I'd enjoy making, stay tuned it might come out in the future...
@@cinematicbattles559 Watch the battle scene from the movie "Son of the Morning Star." It's not that accurate, but it may give you some ideas for some scenes if you make your own video on Custer's Last Stand.
Colour sergeant Frank Bourne (Nigel Green) is prominent...with some Chard.
annoyingly prominent
These videos are fantastic
Thanks a lot!

Hi, do you have any info on the Zulu generals and royal reps at Eshowe around this time or any info on Ommund Oftebro and his stay at the Mahaye homestead for 18yrs? Oftebro is the 1st missionary in the area. My family history has been wiped out completely and we have nothing except for what we've been told by our forefathers and find it hard to prove, as a result, nobody knows where we came from. Please help with any info if possible. Thank you
Epic!
you should do bloodiest battle ever (stalingrad) ik theres no total war game for ww2 but a game like gates of hell ostfront might work
Yes I do want to cover this, I think ill look into it and see if its possible
If that is an "entrenchment," I'd love to see what a "fortress" looks like. 🤣
GREAT
Thanks bro
COMMANDING OFFICER: “Colour Sergeant Bourne! I think it would steady the Men’s nerves, if you regularly repeated a short & simple phrase - in a confident & reassuring manner… Will you do that, Sergeant?”
BOURNE: “ALRIGHT THEN…”
cool, you should probably make a vid about ww1
Yes I am definitely considering it
Gatlings Vs Spears, that's not fair fight
good single shot rifles against spears,, guess who wins
The zulu were easly beaten because they wouldn't change their tactics even though the horns of the buffalo was fine against warriors with spears and clubs it was a disaster against rifles cannons mortars etc. Throwing thousands of warriors against entrenched troops with firearms and cannons was really pointless.
Given the weapons available to the Zulus, what tactics should they have employed?
@@TexasHoosier3118 They should have employed guerilla tactics and copied the british when required.
The Zulus won several battles against the British.
@@TexasHoosier3118Stoneage weapons against modern arts? Surrender.
Please check the pronunciation of Natal, Tugela and Eshowe with a South African. Cheers.
OMG! Why are you people showing a stone bastion? when Eshowe was but a mere fort.
What mod did you use ?
Victoria at war
(6:21) PRE-par-ing! 🙄🙄
Stanley Baker and Michael Caine
would have sorted the Zulus out
Red coats and white helmets make good targets.
During that time the British would take mud and wipe it over the helmets so it did not stand out
The guy saying "Fall right in" sounds like Mace Tyrell from Game of Thrones.
I don’t wanna be that guy but he’s saying “alright then” not fall right in.i can’t blame you though they sound very similar
The sound sample is that of actor Nigel Green as Colour Sergeant Bourne from the 1964 film Zulu. His line at that point in the film was "Alright then! Nobody told you to stop working!"
When was the Gatling gun used in the Zulu wars
battle of Ulundi !
You make eshowe fort look 50 foot high stone walls with ramparts
Nonsense,
It was a loose collection of buildings with a wooden palisade.
Hes limited to the total war engine.
(6:16) PRE-pared! 🙄🙄
That's the voice of the Sergeant Major from "Zulu" . Totally different time.

Interesting, try and get the pronunciations right. Tugela is pronounced Two-ge-la. Eshowe, E-Sho-We

@@cinematicbattles559 the history is interesting, my forefathers fought in the Zulu War. My great great grandfather was with Chalmsford's column when Islandwela was fought. If he was at Islandwela, I would not be alive today.

There is a VAST difference between "natal" (Nay-tel) and "Natal" (NA-TAL) PLEASE! For the sake of viewers' sanity and the appearance of your competence, please don't hesitate to LEARN IT and re-do the script for this video!
I think the narration is done by text-to-speech. Some inflections on words are a little wonky.

Nay-tle? How in heck do people make videos without proofing or learning the basics? The word is pronounced Nuh-TAL, as in every other video or film. Inyezane? It's pronounced In-yeh-ZAH-ne. And that's as far as I got in this mess.
Just wish you’d stop using the audio from Zulu.
The repetitive use of ‘nobody told you to stop working’ etc in every video is not only unimaginative but really egging boring.
My apologies this is just in the game I’m not personally adding this
I think from all the militaries strategies I know of, the Zulus is perhaps the most stupid one in the whole planet and human history.
So nothing has changed much then??
Double enveloping worked for Hannibal at Cannae and for the Americans at Cowpens.
Not as stupid as the British and French in WW I. 500,000 casualties in ONE DAY.
Gatling and rifles vs warriors armed with spears and shield.....uhm unfair fight.
Lol blacks got rekt
Know they reck towns and cities??
Well done outing yourself.
You are not knowledgeable enough to put up these videos 😂
Another bad view of a British battle. To start with, get rid of the lousy computer generated voice that mispronounces names. Secondly, the British marched in column not in a solid block like the French. Thirdly, engineers were still British soldiers and would not march without their redcoats. In addition, a stone structure like the one depicted as an entrenched position would take months to build. Just horrible.
