The film Zulu was spectacular cinema entertainment for the masses. But why did it need a Yank, Cy Endfied to write the screenplay & co-Direct it? Whatever reason, he made a cracking spectacle of it. We Brits had never seen a battle done on celluloid quite like this before. Previously - North West Frontier & The Cruel Sea had been classics of British Cinema & some liked Bridge over the River Kwai (but not me). I don't think the Jack Hawkins 'cowardly vicar' section added anything to the experience though. It certainly didn't happen in reality... I would have liked the British Director Ridley Scott have had a go at it, but I guess it was a bit early for him as he probably wasn't around in 1962/63. Ridley Scott Directed some crackers - The Duellists, Alien & Blade Runner.

I visited Rorkes Drift in 2008 on a guided tour and the guide who was an expert on the subject verified what you mention regarding the fire.

No mention of the defence of the hospital, the burning roof giving valuable illumination and 11 Victoria Crosses won by the defenders. Also the out of place voices from the motion picture were quite off putting as they were played in completely the wrong places! Some of these narrations, I assume are machines? are totally awful
Rorkes Drift,,,,Hundreds of men at his disposal really, thought it a couple brave Welshmen, couple British officers, a Boar a load of sick notes and a rather clever rifle, and a bayonet with a bit of guts behind it, still I'll get my man to rewrite this account, (don't bother) no bother not going to rewrite it myself, well chin chin.

These ZULU mast have mistakin that the British force will lose this battle they also got over excited they could win this battle but sadly this didn't happen the Solder stood they ground behind the barracks
I believe there was only about 150 British soldiers defending & not 400 like the video claims
