I am selling a 2018 Les Paul classic ebony with P 90s, somebody is offering to trade for mine with a 2013 Les Paul standard.
Mine is in mint condition, all original with the hardcase and paperwork, the Standard offered for trade wasn't all original because the pickups were swapped and it wouldn't come with case or paperwork.
I'm just wondering if I skipped out on a good deal??? Does anyone have an idea if I should have taken the deal?
They were only about $1000 apart at the time of purchase, mine being cheaper of course, but the mods and no case and no paperwork threw me off a bit....

Back in 84, I had a small 2nd job. One of the coworkers commented oh I see you play guitar, I have one for sale, maybe you’d be interested, I said yeh sure what is it? He said I think it’s a Les Paul, I will even throw in the amp, I paid $450 for the amp, I said OK, what kind of Money you talking? He said I dunno $200 work for you? I said yeh sure, all night I was heavy with anticipation, the next day he gets out of his car carrying an amp and hard shell case, it said Gibson on the case, I said heck I’d give him a deuce even if the case was empty, he opened the case, long story short it was a 68 Gold top Les Paul Custom. I have never parted with $200 so eagerly, I kept it a few years before giving it to my friend, there are deals to be had, but yeh 84 was a long time ago but it was a steal even then

I really like how in your original video for the rosewood top Les Paul Custom you put callouts on screen for the songs you were playing and had a pop up picture of the amp/cab you were playing the guitar through. I forgot you did that until watching this video. I really appreciate your playing in your videos as I think it is relatable to many of us viewers. I get the best idea of how a guitar might sound in my hands, at my house, from your vids of anyone I watch on RUclips. I always appreciate honesty and transparency in demos and would love if you started doing those things again. Love you vids as always!

I have sold guitars on Craig List before and have had someone try to scam me with the line. "I live too far away but can you meet me half way", the reason I know it's a scam because every guitar I sold, they would use the same exact line, but a different voice on the phone. "I am buying for my husband, but I live to far away, can I meet you half way?" I don't go to anyone, you come to me, so I have home field advantage. That's the oldest trick in the book, lure you into unfamiliar territory and than meet the person, while someone comes up behind you and jacks you with a sock full of pennies and takes your guitar. I was in the military, so I know all the scams, especially on Pay Day outside the main gate. NEVER MEET ANYONE IN UNFAMILIAR TERRITORY, even if you take a buddy, they still have the advantage of surprise to ambush you.

@Trogly's I actually got the scammer to contact me off his Houston, TX ad. Told me a nice sob story that he was selling for his sister and she was having a hard time. I told him I would pay cash. He said that was great. I told him I would pay cash after I validated the guitar by in-depth inspection. Asked me to send cash Western Union first. Told him inspection first and I would have cash. Asked me where to meet. I gave him an address and never heard back. I gave him a local sheriff's department address. Don't know if he ever figured that out or just quit when he could not have the money first.
$5,000 maybe but $500 was scam all day long.

Here is some advice for those who want to roll the dice and buy a guitar off of Craigslist. I bought one guitar off of CL and what I did was to call a reputable guitar store near the seller (no, not Guitar Center) and have the seller bring the instrument in there for an evaluation from the stores luthier. I then talked to the luthier and he laid out the condition and authenticity of the instrument. The guitar was verified legit so I sent the money to the music store, they paid the seller, then the store boxed and shipped the instrument to me. The fee for the inspection, transfer of funds, and shipping was $300 but well worth it on a high end instrument. Of course it is always way better to see and inspect the instrument in person, but you now have a second option if you need it.

Only last week in the U.K. I came across a fabulous J200 a Martin and a Les Paul on Craig list all advertised by the same seller claiming emptying attic for family and wanting quick sale. In short I didn’t even bother trying to set up a meet in a public place since anyone with an ounce of sense in London could of taken them to any of the dealers on Denmark st and walked out of their with at least five grand as opposed to the £1500 for the three? Clearly a scam and the old adage if it’s too good to be true, then it is.

I bought what was supposed to be a Taylor acoustic off of ebay. The seller mailed an empty USPS envelope with tracking information to a different address in my zip code instead of shipping my guitar. Luckily I live in a small township and was able to track down the envelope. I took pictures of the envelope, got a notarized statement from my mail carries that she did not deliver a guitar to my address and verification from USPS that the "guitar" (envelope) was DELIVERED TO A DIFFERENT ADDRESS.
Even with all the proof I sent them ebay still found in favor of the scammer and refused to give me a refund. I argued with ebay for 2 weeks before finally giving up and going to Paypal.
Paypal refunded my money within five minutes of me emailing them pictures of all the evidence.
Ebay knows that scammers rip people off on ebay and they do not care. They aren't losing the money so they don't care.

Had a guy locally trying to scam with a few "custom shop" guitars he had for sale recently. Using pictures on a Craigslist listing for guitars he didn't actually have. I showed up to his run-down trailer to find that the guitars he was advertising didn't exist and he had several fakes he was trying to pass as real - including what he claimed was a Gibson Custom Shop '61 SG in alpine white. I got out as quick as I could but later that night, at work at a local guitar shop, a customer came in with a guitar for sale. Turns out it was the fake '61 SG and I had to break the news to the guy that I had already seen the guitar that day and it was a clear fake...he got screwed out of $900 cash in a parking lot. The moral - if it looks too good to be true it probably is!

Yeah there was something like this awhile back when i bought an Ibanez RG 6002 off of Reverb. The image used was used over on another sale from another seller. On reverb and on Facebook marketplace.

Best reason to buy an Epiphone, nobody bothers faking them. Er... I probably shouldn't have said that. I'm wrong, aren't I?

I'm only a minute in but this looks kind of familiar... In 2017 someone posted MY guitar to the local Craigslist for $500 (its worth much more.) It's a fairly unique guitar so local musicians recognized it quickly and contacted me personally. In my case I figure it was probably an angry peer or ex-companion yanking my chain. This isn't necessarily related, but the Craigslist ad in this video reminded me of my own Craigslist scam snafu.

I came across this same scam one time except it was a truck. I found a deal, talked to the seller, and then they said to send money and they would ship the truck. Ship the truck? Lol.

Hocus Pocus by Focus? Really impressed by your expanding lick library. I know some of the guys at Harmonix (Rockband and Guitar Hero developers) and you are exactly what they wanted to happen when they made those games.

Trogly love your channel, and not sure if you can control how long the youtube ads play on a single Trogly video, but now it's having to sit thru 4-6 full length ads....used to be able to hit skip ad on the second ad.....getting painful.

$500 USD? My 2011 Studio cost $800+ - a fair price, no real deal, but not ripped off either. Plays like butter 😍. Sigh. Even after 3 strokes I've not lost enough brain cells to do anything but laugh at that listing. Not that I wouldn't LOVE to have it, but I know better. You should too.

    Rock or not?
Not an ECL/ Norlin era Les Paul at that price before Leo's essentially had them retool.
I guess from a pure collectors perspective they make as much sense as any rare guitar and they play and sound fine but I have seen very few if any pre Leo's Les Paul's where the top met the binding correctly.
The absence of recurve is aesthetically appalling and is a reminder of how ECL and Norlin compromised the brand.
Fred Gretsch famously advised Ted McCarty that if Gibson was going to try to compete with Fender in the solid electric guitar market that they should "build it like a real guitar".
Ted wisely heeded the advice and in doing so the Les Paul was truly distinguished from any other solid body electric guitar available in 1952.
The two features that exemplified this commitment the most were setting the neck and recurving the top.
When Les Paul production resumed in 1968 the recurve was pretty much gone supposedly due to tooling having not been maintained.
I have also heard that it was possibly a management decision based on the fact that not building with recurve was cheaper.
If tools and skills are not perfectly honed there is the possibility of chipping out the edge on what would be one of the final operations.
The problem was corrected when Leo Malliaris commissioned one thousand instruments built essentially as the first '59 reissue.
Apparently the negotiation was contentious at one point because of concerns over controlling cost of production and recurve was one of the main sticking points.
Those instruments were built in 1981 and 1982.
My '81 Deluxe, (purchased from Leo incidentally), exhibits good recurve so apparently some significant change took place in the wake of the Leo's run.
Leo by the way was the guy who along with Glen Quan brought us the Bad Ass Bass Bridge essentially changing how bass bridges are built.
I would be VERY curious to examine the 20th anniversary model that was mentioned. It is certain to be a prettier guitar.
    Great content as always.
I never fail to learn something new here.
    Cheers!
