I'm glad you admit the use of Rank 1 Frostbolt, however, there's something no less useful you should take into account, specially when it takes you to face melee enemies: Rank 1 and Rank 3 Frost Armour. With Permafrost talent it's more than just viable to change your Armour spells during the combat to maximise your defence and taking mana regeneration while casting. On the side note, I'd highly advise to do your research on multi target and single target combat efficacy and mana spending.
