It all comes back to the blues. Lonnie was influenced by leadbelly. Leadbelly was influenced by the old blues guys. Van was influenced by Lonnie. The beatles the stones were all influenced by these great artists. Long live the blues.
as i get older ( too old for my liking ) you begin to realise more and more just how important were those early blues kings ( most of whom just happened to be black )
@@grantross2609 Yes, and the blues was influenced by the folk music taken to America by the original settlers, so it all just goes around and around. 👍😁
Love to see this, great music, great to see van being slagged and taking it in good humour, lonnie donegan is fantastic, only found out about him through van the man
You cannot over-estimate the importance of Lonnie Donegan to our musical education in the late 1950's (as I am old enough to remember!). He brought us Americana. Grand Coolie Dam introduced us to the songs of Woody Guthrie, Battle of New Orleans to Jimmie Driftwood and Appalachian fiddle tunes, Rock Island Line - Leadbelly, Cumberland Gap, another traditional Appalachian song, the list just goes on an on, he was a one man educator and a hugely important part of our musical history in Britain..
What a video I didn’t know there was film of this concert have been listening to the cd for years Lonnie like my wife and I is a Glaswegian we are both now in our seventies and from an early age we’re listening to Lonnie. The Beatles name checked Lonnie as an eArlie influence. My wife said Lonnie always sounded as if we was enjoying himself. How great to listen to them reminiscing
I just read on wiki that Lonnie Donegan, who did play a huge role in skiffle and all that came after, took his name after meeting & playing with the Legend that was Lonnie Johnson. My mind is blown, the world of Blues, Jazz and Rock is such a tiny, tiny circle.
To be precise, Skiffle in its "traditional" form, was what America would call JUG BAND MUSIC. In the UK the biggest and most famous Jug Band is called The Jake Leg Jug Band
The fantastic Lonnie Donegan , great music Thanks for all the great sounds, my first record was Rock island line
Great post. And so good to see Van in good humour.

LOL LOL
Donegan ripped off Justin Hayward by holding him to a lousy publishing deal. Bad faith, bad guy.
Elaborate please?
