    It’s an old fashioned seam guide, very common on vintage machines. It screws into the base with that screw, don’t lose it.

    It may be an "M" bobbin which are like the ones in the big long arm quilting machines mounted to quilt frames.

    I just bought a Janome 1600P-QC which is pretty much the same as the newer model HD9, I think…anyway, I need help understanding this machine and learning how to use it…is there any help out there to understand things like “thread net”!!
