I don't think they'll go past 3 jugs man. Now after my guess, I never would have predicted that a 300BLK soft point would penetrate so much. Those soft tips usually dump all the energy early on, but it's funny how ballistics can be so unpredictable at times. Cool video bud!

They are pretty darn good. But the sub caliber semi-delayed action guns are absolutely amazing. Just about everything except for the HK with their roller delay system is pure blow back and absolutely slick and smooth. My crappy old gen 3 G22 shoots softer in a KPOS then any of the strickly blowback guns. The CMMG is absolutely cheap for what it does, at least in sub caliber. With rifle calibers, it’s more or less the same, (although well built and tuned).
Seriously, if you get a chance to hit up a range that has one and a couple of JR Carbines, Sub2000’s and a Beretta Storm carbine try and compare. Only the MP9 is it’s equal, and they are prohibitively expensive compared to the CMMG and use a different manual of arms from the AR.

So, .223/5.56 is designed to fragment like you are seeing. That's why you have a bunch of bullet fragments on the .223 test and not a solid chunk of lead. The round is DESIGNED to fragment like that. It actually loses terminal effectiveness once muzzle velocity drops enough to where the round DOESN'T fragment. The fragmentation of the round is part of what makes that tiny little bullet so lethal.

We have used 223/556 for deer with youth. It is effective but not preferred in our house. The 60 grain partition has been the best overall on a 100+lb. Doe at 30 yards. The next was a 69 grain Sierra Match King on a couple deer at just under 50 yards. The 62gr. Barnes X was a pinhole on both sides no blood to speak of but a heart shot at 50 yards basically dropped on spot. Go big is a good rule. Thanks WTW.

Fun video as usual. Obviously not a very fair comparison. Unless you are shooting at least 62 or better yet mid 70’s or even the nasty 80gr soft points. I wouldn’t be interested in shooting a deer with anything less then my favourite load at 62gr, (sweet spot for my favourite AR rifle although it prefers Barnaul steel I’ve shot some Nosler .223 in 64gr that are just as accurate but way more expensive). Still I’d rather have a single shot rifle in something bigger, at least a .243 for deer.

Think about what we saw, the 300 black out slower heavier bullet much deeper penetration , and the bullet maintained its weight pretty much. 223 round 2.72 times lighter traveling at a much higher speed had less penetration extremely high shock value, but still penetrated 2 jugs full of water. My evaluation would be the 300 black out for deer due to wanting knock down power with less lead and copper fragments in the animal I will cook for family. The 223 excellent for varmints 4 legged and 2, due to the example we saw with the 223 round exploding it may be a good choice of round for home defense with less over penetration. I guess we would need to see how it would preform if fired through mock walls with drywall and insulation and exterior sheeting and siding. Loved this video as well as all your others. Hey there Who-tee-Who, when you are doing your milk jug test, could you do a weighing of the recovered bullets? This would give us a recovery weight or weight retained number. I know when hunting bullet retention depends if it hits bone, heavy muscle and body mass. Just a thought...thanks again.

Killed two does two years ago with 223 Power Shok 64 Grain. Hit them both in the lungs and they ran no more than 40 yards before dropping. Used same ammo for deer hunting in 2019 but did not take any shots at any deer. I did not get to deer hunt in 2020 due to a very pregnant wife. This ammo is good for deer as long as they are hit in the vitals.

If it's penetration you want you can't beat a bigger bullet with all the inertia. It's like a dump truck compared to a race car. The dump truck is going slower and will do deeper damage. Yet the race car will explode upon impact due to the velocity yet will dissipate energy rather quickly die to the light weight. But the .223 will kill stiff just as dead within 200 yards as the .300 will. One is just different than the other.
