    Magic Mountain team member here, I think a good spot y'all didn't cover is Apocalypse/old Deja Vu's plot. It's a pretty big sized area and I see plenty of activity with people and equipment in there despite Apocalypse being SBNO 99% of the time and them using Deja Vu's plot just for a Fright Fest maze (though this could just be them gearing up for Fright Fest). I would really be sad to see Viper go since it's one of my favorites but I do understand since it is almost a walk on even on our busiest days. The theater is a good spot too and would be very happy to see a terrain coaster go there, especially since that theater and the old log flume station haven't been touched in years and aren't used for anything (I've checked). The only thing I can say personally though is that there is rumors of a giga happening floating around team members that a giga is coming although it could just be stemming from the social media posts. Overall, I really hope this happens because Magic Mountain desperately needs a ride with good floater airtime as almost every single airtime focused coaster at the park is intense ejector and that gets very tiring after a few rides.

      But what would a giga give Great Adventure that it already doesn't have in its lineup?
      It already has 2 full circuit coasters over 200 feet tall. It already has a floater airtime, and no inversion machine. Magic mountain doesn't have either of those met yet.
      Honestly, magic mountain doesn't have a single good floater airtime focused, with no inversions coaster at all; while Nitro already does that perfectly for Great Adventure.

    They aren’t ready to part with Viper yet. And they still use it. Unlike the theater which has not been used in a substantial way since the 1990’s. 😱And considering construction workers have been taking measurements in the area, this would be more likely. There are also some paint markers in the area. Granted some of the work could be for the solar project, but some of the workers were asked and said it was for a new ride. So, I’d say something is replacing the unused theater.

  • @lanceflx63

    Honestly the old Showcase Theater; where I saw The Sylvers perform back in 1977 should be where they should build an Intamin launch or Mack Log Flume ride with a new lake to pay homage to one of the best flume rides in the world the Log Jammer that they torn down for Full Throttle. The Giga should be placed at the back of the mountain near Apocalypse going up the hill towards Viper and X and back.

    It would be interesting to see how a SFMM Giga would work. Maybe it would be kind of like Hades 360 or The Voyage where there’s a few parts that’s underground? Or maybe it could be one of those coasters that, whilst having a largish footprint, is situated high above the ground to avoid endangering people taking footpaths, like Millennium at Fantasy Island in the UK? Another option could be an Intamin multi-launch but depending on how compact Six Flags would want to go I kinda have my doubts

  • @zacg_
    @zacg_ Год назад +1

    Come on Magic Mountain. Give us the giga for real. And while I know everyone is thinking B&M or Intamin, I have another idea. Since they have a history of some very unusual additions, they should build the first T-rex. Yes I know they just built Wonder Woman. But I don't think the general public would think it was redundant anymore than having a similar track type between various B&Ms is redundant. Having two across seating and a >300 foot height would make it very different for most people.
    And can you imagine the hype that would come with the first T-rex? Six Flags has a strong long term relationship with RMC. And think of X2, TC, Tatsu and the first ever T-rex being their top 4. That would really draw some attention.

    If you think a B&M Giga can fit at Knott's, then you can fit one ANYWHERE at SFMM.
    But... I think SFMM needs a refresh. Plant some more trees in the back of the park and build a new entrance pushing into the parking lot near Scream and Twisted Colussus. The current entrance plaza would be a great location for a Giga! Keep the Golden Bear Theater and bring back a new version of the Galaxy!
    Knott's isn't known for its coasters (as SFMM is). I predict a family RMC coaster is more likely in their future.

    This is the rumor I've heard, which I don't entirely buy but it does sound intriguing and definitely plausible:
    -The coaster is rumored to be a RMC T-Rex model. Supposedly Six Flags has signed a deal for multiple installations of the model once RMC is ready to deliver the product (the SFGAdv Giga project would most likely be the same model).
    -The ride will replace Ninja, with the station in the same location as Ninja's current station but likely a new building. Apparently that ride is reaching the end of its viable service life due to parts availability and and likely would be forced into retirement by the end of the decade anyway. Jet Stream will remain as it was just recently refurbished.
    -The lift will head toward Roaring Rapids, then the ride will turn and drop down to the water level, passing under Jet Stream's lift. It will be an Orion style giga...lift under 300 ft. tall, but drop in excess of 300 ft.
    -After the drop, the coaster will hop over to the front side of the mountain and thread through Full Throttle's loop, then race out along the hillside. It will turn around at the far end (probably where the Golden Bear Theater is), cross back over the mountain, then return to the station.
    -Total track length will be shorter than Goliath despite the additional height in order to keep costs down. It will also ride very differently than any other giga as it will simply be about large elements rather than high speeds and quick transitions.
    -The tentative target is 2026 for the park's 55th anniversary, but that could shift backward (it likely won't move forward). The latest is 2028, as the park wants to use the ride to attract visitors for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

  • @JD-sg8yz
    @JD-sg8yz Год назад +2

    If they do get a GIGA, I don't think it will be short and gimmicky. That was the way they did things the past 10 to 15 years when they sort of had to due to lower CapEx limits. The fact that Six Flags has said the CapEx for 2025 will be around 230M - 250M is a major factor in my thinking. This is a HUGE number for Six Flags. Over the last 10 years they have averaged 120M in CapEx and I don't think they have spent over 144M in any given year in that same time frame.
    When the CEO was asked whether this increase in CapEx was more ride related or for more overall improvements he responded by implying it's mainly for rides saying "...so it's a combination of maintenance, but it's not the biggest part. The biggest part is the thrill ride. We're having a lot of thrill rides expenditures.
    "
    I'd be surprised if one of their biggest parks doesn't get a large chunk of this extra CapEx spending. It wouldn't be shocking for Six Flags to spend 15M - 20M on Magic Mountain in a year with normal CapEx spending and 2025 will be almost double. The fact they are spending 420M to 470M over a period they would normally spend up to 250M says to me that they are fully capable of spending 40M to 50M on a unique project. I think something big is coming to this park in 2025. Just my 2 cents..

Just something to think about, But in all honesty im skeptical at magic getting a giga. It would be great but idk things change at that company all the time so its hard to say. I would be sad if they got ride of viper though but i know its days are coming to an end sadly. But i would more want to see an axis coaster replace viper and see a retheme of that entire area near x2. Although before magic even thinks about getting another coaster they need to clean up that park and get their act together. This year has been really bad at the park with a lot of coasters being down and the samurai summit area looks like an abandoned mess.

    I completely agree that SFMM needs an airtime focused hyper (or giga), in order for it to be considered the top coaster lineup in America. I'm not saying that it isn't already a stacked lineup, but as you've mentioned, it should come down to quality over quantity in that category. At this point, they should just scrap Goliath and place this ride in that plot of land. Although old and janky, Viper is still enjoyable and adds some depth to SFMM's lineup. Once it gets the axe, that massive plot could make way for two smaller coasters, to even further round out the park's collection.

    I think the second SF got an idea that Universal was going to add a new coaster, that's when they paused the giga for SFGADV and decided to put it at SFMM. As SF confirmed on their recent earnings call, SFGADV addition was a last minute add on so that tells me what they're getting wasn't their plan even a year or 2 ago. I don't see them replacing Viper as that just had work done to it so I think this is going where that theater was. I know the other plot of land was where Deja Vu used to be but that's right by the new neighborhoods (noise complaints) they just added plus there isn't a ton of room there so I think a smaller scale giga where that theater was is a safe bet plus you'll be able to see it easily from the 5 freeway.
    I don't think it'll be a dive (even a giga dive) as Knotts has a dive already (they market Hangtime as one and most GP won't know the difference) plus Sea World has Emperor so they really need something different to draw in people and IMO nothing is better for MM than a giga.

      If that is the case, it will take years until magic mountain announces their giga, since SFMM is a terrain-based park, so the layout will need to be adjusted accordingly, especially for earthquake protocols

    I feel like Superman is in an odd spot to put a strata so maybe put a giga in that area since it’s an appealing area and make a strata with a decent layout somewhere close by? Also b and m hypers and gig as suck very badly imo they all feel forceless both airtime and everything else, makes me fall asleep on the rides especially with how smooth they are, fury however is amazing and need more of those.

    Yeah I doubt it. One they don’t need it at all. I think that all the Magic Mountain Fanboys are so spoiled that they think they need a Giga after they got 2 RMCs. Two no way Six Flags buys a Giga. Even though they’re working with Intamin, a Giga is still stupid expensive. It would cost them upwards of $20-$25 million assuming it’s Intamin. Which is around the same cost as Kingda Ka and El Toro which I believe to have costed $20 million and $28 million respectively. And I don’t think they’d test out a Giga at their flagship park. It just wouldn’t really make sense. But then again Magic Mountain did get X2 which was a prototype so idk.

  • @brianfoss571

    The only plot in Magic Mountain that's actually ideal for a giga is Goliath's. Six Flags is probably still kicking themselves for getting stuck with two sub-par Giovanolas. If Magic Mountain is getting a 300+ foot Intamin in the near-term, it's probably replacing Escape from Krypton. A multi-launch strata coaster with airtime pops would be great for the park. And I'm still rooting for a massive B&M Dive to replace Viper.

  • @brianfoss571
    @brianfoss571 11 месяцев назад

    The Viper area only works if you're trying to make a giga version of Expedition GeForce. It's more ideal for a twister layout, and if there's an out-and-back section interacting with the entrance area, it'd likely be the finale. The turnaround has to be squeezed into the tram dropoff, right in front of the iconic entry gate, and it's not going to have the symmetry of Fury's treble clef at Carowinds' entrance. Bringing up the Golden Bear Theatre was a rambling waste of time in this video. It makes zero sense to build a giga entrance next to Bugs Bunny World. If it's developed for a coaster, I could see Full Throttle relocated to Over Georgia and the combined plot used for a family-thrill B&M wing with 1 or 2 inversions.

    Of course, and who can do it better than? it will be done to out high Ceder Point's New Revision of Top Thrill etc. by at least 50-100 feet or more? Now Magic Mountain will raise up a black tracked shinny monster to be able to see, 'Downtown LA,' on a sunny clear day! This monster will be raised so high until a people sitting in the last seat, 'must be warned,' for their own good because one's fear won't be thought of at all! They'll have had to be warned and whatever happens after that cannot be a Magic Mountains worry at all!

    They need to replace or modernize Ninja with new trains at least. Gold rusher needs the same before they touch viper. If they want a giga they should replace Goliath. I dont think the company is around so maintenance is likely a pain. Golden bear theatre is a big money maker if they still do gospel fest as well as cheerleader competition's. Dont get me started on their water rides...best flume ride was removed.
