@@olgapayares3939 It means he eats in a 6hr window per day, and does not consume any calories for the other 18 hours. You can choose whatever 6 hour window you want. For example, I personally have my eating window from 1 or 2pm to 6 or 7pm (2 meals, no snacks), and then don't eat anything again until 2pm the next day.
If you're not familiar with what fasting does, I would highly recommend watching some of Jason Fung's talks.

Hello Ms. Bosworth. I'm a 64 year old male who has been doing a 18/6 fast with moderate exercise three times a week. I am on my third week of this fasting routine. It has been getting much easier each day. My eating window is between noon and 6 pm but am thinking that a 9am to 3 pm window would be better. I will soon try a 24 hour fast. I am anxiously awaiting the fat to trickle away. I've lost a couple of pounds in the last three weeks and do not feel like I'm starving. You explain this better than anyone else. Thank you
    Bob

Really good video, thanks so much for posting Dr Boz. I've been intermittent fasting for a couple of years, but didn't understand the importance of limiting carbs before. Breaking the food addiction can be really tough, but well worth it for the increase in life enjoyment that it helps bring about.

I'm not as old as some of the people in this comment section. I'm 19. I've done a low calorie diet and it sucked it definitely helped me lose weight 70+ lbs. But it was fighting constant hunger and headaches. I gained all the weight back and more later on. It's about to be my 3rd day of keto and intermediate fasting and working out and I don't feel dead inside or hungry. Hope I can make it through

Dr. Boz, I have been a carnivore for 12 months. I'm 73 on Aug. 26th. I have been doing intermittent fasting since I began the diet last Aug. I fast 24hrs between meals every day. I often skip a day or even 2 without a meal. I have tried 72hrs a couple of times, but it's not easy. To date, I have lost 80 pounds. I have 60 to go. Not daunting, rather, I'm happy and empowered to get back into life. I plan to remain with this way of eating for the rest of my years. My health has improved immeasurably. 10 years ago I was diagnosed with Lymphedema. I was in dire condition. Actually, my mobility was threatened horribly. I was using a cane and staring down the barrel at a wheelchair for what was left of my future. Today the swelling has subsided almost totally. I wake up with enough energy to lick the world every morning. I can wear cute shoes again. Very nice with all my new clothes. I no longer shop in the chubby lady sections. I have joined a gym, and today I applied for and was hired to work part-time doing brand merchandising for local stores. I've been retired since 2011, so this is a real big turn around for me. Not so long ago I couldn't even stand and do the dishes without taking breaks so my back could de-stress. I know that my metabolism is running hot. I am livin the dream LOL. My question is, I am wondering if I have to stop autophagy.? I would live in that state if I could. Is there a way to keep autophagy going if I don't ingest carbs? I eat very few carbs. Many days a month and every day I fast and when I do eat its meat fat and animal products only. I eat no grains, fruit, or vegetables., Eggs (rarely) cheese, cream, butter. I saw your video about which cheeses have MCT and now I only buy those. Is autophagy still working when I eat?

The best explanation yet of the difference between a low-calorie diet and fasting: why one lowers the bmr and the other does just the opposite. Thank you for this! I've shared it with my daughter and my office daughter! :^D This is my month for trying 16:8, and I'm inspired to try a 24-hour fast this weekend. Wish me luck!

Ahhhhhhh, NOW I get it! I've been trying to understand why your bodies gain or stall weight and slow down the metabolism on low-calorie diets when that doesn't happen on fasting. I totally get it now. Thank you for that explanation! I've been trying to explain the difference between low-cal vs fasting to friends who have tried many diets and are now too afraid to try fasting because they insist that they will experience again what they've always experienced with the low-calorie state. Now I've got the understanding and language to explain. Thank you!

Love this explanation. I have been doing Keto for 6 months and IF (8/16)for 2 months and have never felt this great. Not even when I was 25 (I am 45). I told a family member yesterday that I do IF, she looked at me like I was crazy and questioned its safety. She is convinced that I must be starving myself.

During the past year, there have been three youtube keto presenters that I have found most helpful in my personal journey. Dr. Ken Berry, Dr. Bret Scher, and Dr.s Beckey & Keith Gillaspy. Of course there is a plethora of others.. but these were the most down to earth and easy to understand. Now I need to add one more, Dr. Boz! (certainly the easiest name to remember.. lol) In my journey i have lost 90 pounds, fixed my fatty liver, stopped my bladder cancer from coming back, improved my metrics and overall just found a way to live a happier and healthier life in retirement. Thanks to them all, and a big welcome to Dr. Boz for her wonderful presentations1 Love the graphics!

Great info! I do not have to lose weight, but I was on a low cal diet without knowing it. Avoided a lot of food, mostly carbs because it made me feel bad. Had no other food and then found keto. It solved the low calorie thing and IF ignited my metabolism again. Lifting weights and cardio is possible again. Thanks again for providing such valuable data😃👏

I just recently found your channel. I sure wish I had found it a year and a half ago. I’ve been on a ketogenic diet for a year and half now. I am insulin resistant and the first few months was horrible. The diarrhea almost made me give it up but I stuck with it and it passed. I feel better now than I ever have.
I want my loved ones to try the diet but have not been able to find someone who can explain the diet quite like you do. It has to be short and sweet for most people and you do this perfectly. I share your videos on my FB page all the time.
I have learned what my body was going through those first few months and am now helping my daughter through the process thanks to your help!!

Love your channel! Just discovered it today. I’m a 71 yr old woman, with a whole life of dieting behind me. A mix of low calorie (WW) and low carb. I’m T2 diabetic 4 years post massive heart attack. For 6 months I did 16/8 IF and for a couple of months now I’ve done OMAD. I feel SO much better on OMAD. I love the saved time, and I feel much cleaner and lighter although I haven’t really lost much weight. Have about 20# I’d like to lose. My blood sugars have been a little higher on OMAD, especially in AM after sleep.
I’m SO glad I found you. Low carb is the way to go. As soon as I increase carbs I start craving more carbs and feel bad; shaky and low energy. Blessings and thanks,(ginny)

Found Keto about 18 months ago, doing 18/6 intermittent fasting 5-6 days per week. Think Dr Berg is a fraud, rely on doctors, Volek, Bikman and trainer Thomas Lauer. I’m down 30lbs, off all medications (except Cialis - once a week) feel great. Do a lot of resistance training, tennis, and walking. Good luck, just found Dr Boz today.

Ok here's some more of my story. I started keto Nov 2018. To date I have lost 70lbs. A year before keto I started having problems with my gallbladder. When I heard about it, I thought they were crazy telling me to eat more fat, good fats. But I took a chance and did it. My gallbladder pains went away in weeks. 3 to 4 months in my cardiologist took me off high blood pressure meds and cholesterol meds. This Nov (2019) my regular dr checked my thyroid and took me off my thyroid meds. My thyroid has given me problems since age 22. I'm 62 now. Thank Dr Boz. I have recommended that friends listen to your 3 part videos before going to keto so they understand the principles, not some stupid formula that complicates and discourages people from sticking with it.

The first all-keto senior living facility will make a mint! I can just imagine a whole bunch of elderly people, formerly in ill health with failing memories, suddenly flourishing on low carb diets and eating all the delicious fatty foods that they remember from when they were kids, but that their doctors have told them for years were “bad” for them. It would look like a miracle! Maybe Dr Boz can help start one.

Intermittent fasting is the best! I've been OMAD almost 6 months now. The fat started disappearing fast from the beginning even though my diet wasn't very keto the first few weeks. Also I don't count calories at all, just eat till I'm stuffed. But if I do try to estimate calories its always way more than any other (restricted calorie) weight loss diet I've tried before. The beauty of this is the way the one reinforces the other. It feels like if I eat too much carbs it matters less because eating just once a day means I'll be into ketosis soon anyway, or if I pig out and stretch my eating window out from an hour or two to 4 or even 6 hours, well that still leaves 18 hours fasting so again I am right back into ketosis (and autophagy!) the same day. If I do strict keto and IF then of course its amazing. But combined its like belt and suspenders, if you slack off on one the other has your back.

I'm just learning about the ketogenic diet. When I first started, I took all veggies and fruits out of my diet, but the more information I took in, I had to also help my fatty liver and hypothyroidism. I started incorporating the right carbs, such as cruciferous vegetables, mushrooms, spinach, lettuce, celery, radish. I try for 7 cups a day to help with those issues I have. I also started eating grass-fed beef and chicken livers now and then. Getting off the sugar and realizing much of my fruits and veggies I was eating were way too high in sugar was amazing. Thank you for spreading this crucial information.

I eat this at 5am every morning before a day at my job of ditch digging and usually dont get hungry until 2pm. I do cramp up though some times if shoveling for hours on end. July 16th I went on a keto diet and today I took my labs a little early at just under 2 1/2 months. A1c was 6.0 and I only took 1 dose of the janumet and occasionally didn't take any. My doc was surprised. I haven't done the IF and occasionally take in more carbs than I should. I can tell when I'm in Ketosis because of my fasting blood sugar. When I take in too many carbs it takes around 4 days to get back down to 100-110 glucose. I also don't spike throughout the day. My wife and I are avid hikers and backbackers sometimes up to 3 days out. I haven't hiked since I've been on keto. I'm concerned about not taking many carbs for an 8- 12 hour day of hiking at times with 3 to 4000 feet of elevation climb. What do you recommend? Thank you in advance.

I do what is commonly called intermittent fasting, but I call it Eating on Purpose, or Mastered Eating. I do not ever "deprive myself of any good thing" to be healthy. I just stop acting like a stupid animal being led to the slaughter by the horrible food pyramid!
I love that feeling I get at about the 17 hour mark when my mind gets a dazzling clarity; almost a super-hyper but confidently disciplined activity of the mind. I'm totally hooked!

Love your videos...thank you. Could you do a video on ‘red light’ therapy? I think it’s supposed to speed up autophagy. I’m, also, still confused as to what my ketone level should be during ketosis, fat burning, autophagy. I have the mojo meter.

Sorry if this has already been asked. I’ve just recently stumbled upon your videos and love them! I was wondering your thoughts on long fasts and the female metabolism/hormones? I’ve heard that too long of a fast is not so good for women, but I would love to get autophagy going! I have been doing 16/8 intermittent fasting daily for about 10 weeks now. I have been low carb/high fat for about 12 weeks. 👍. Thanks for the great videos and any insight on this is appreciated!!!

Add Dr. Jason Fung and Thomas DeLauer if you are serious about healthy weight loss. Keto is great for many, but for some like myself I am low carb the majority of the time and periodically full keto. Lots of intermittent fasting and time restricted eating. Lots of exercise and feeling strong. Lost 45lbs in 4 months at 53 yoa. 223 to 178 lbs. still have the odd beer or unhealthy snack with the kids.

This is helpful, I tend to eat 1000/day if I only eat when hungry. So to get myself to eat more I have to eat when not hungry til my calorie goal is meet after a week or so my body sets a new hunger level.

I'm a male 74 years old and I've been on this KETO diet for about 4 weeks now. Mainly because of you and Dr. Ken Berry, both of whom I greatly admire and appreciate. and have lost 16 pounds and stopped taking my Atenolol for blood pressure (now it's 115/72) and I've stopped taking my Repatha shots for cholesterol and feel better. GREAT, BUT after listening to Dr Kim Williams (past President of the American College of Cardiology) I'm now confused. He cites some great studies that claim eating ANY ANIMAL products is BAD for you. The interview I watched (if interested was a youtube video interview by Plant Based News Published on Aug 13, 2018 Titled ENDING THE KETOGENIC DIET DEBATE - Dr. Kim Williams. Who do I believe? I'm doing well on the KETO diet BUT...🤷‍♂️

Does bone broth break a fast?

Hi Dr Boz. I’m so glad I found your channel. Your explanations are easy to understand and feel logical to me. I’ve only recently started the keto lifestyle - 3 months now and I feel fantastic. I dropped 28 pounds in that time and feel I’m on my way to a fat adapted state. My question is about the best time of the day to break my fast. I have typically been breaking it around 1pm with a 4 hour feeding window. My problem is that I really like my morning coffee with heavy cream so I’ve been fooling myself that I’m IF for 20 hours a day because I am not having zero calories. It’s occurred to me that because I don’t want to give up coffee, I could just bring my feeding window down to when I first wake up. Is there any science or evidence that suggests the best time to break your fast? Thank you. JP

Good for you Jacqueline! Our stories sound the same and I believe Dr. Berg and one or two others say that Bullet Proof Coffee is fine in the morning. Virtually no calories or carbs in it so it won't spike insulin - just be sure to check your labels cause not all creams are the same :)

I'm 64 and T2 and have been eating a low carb diet of about 30g carbs a day. Lately I find I cannot lose weight. I started tracking my carbs, calories and fat on my fitness pal and eat about 1350 calories a day and 30 g carbs and do not lose. If I veer off it even a few calories even though staying in my carb count I gain. I have tried intermittent fasting and just got sick and felt awful. I wish I could find a way to do it because it's the only way I seem to lose and bring my blood sugar down but after doing 24 hr. Fasts every other day for awhile I was sick, weak and starving and just ended up eating ravenously and gaining more. Really frustrated. Been low carb for 13 years.

I'm late to the party, but the first indication I had non-alcoholic fatty liver was when I couldn't lose weight and I had been doing very low carb as well. If you haven't had a blood test for your liver by now, you should. Also when you do IF, you have to make sure you have plenty of fats for your one meal or 2 meals. Avocado, olive oil, coconut oil (which I put in tea, but coffee works too) fatty fish like salmon, tuna, sardines all have lots of good fats. IF is meant to switch your body to fat burning mode. You have to give your body those fats, lots of them, so you don't feel starved and sick. Also you can become dehydrated which can make you really sick. So drinks lots of water.

Hello I'm here hours in a day not eating = 16, hours in a day when you can eat = 8.

    • @suzyq_lasvegas4536
      @suzyq_lasvegas4536 6 лет назад

I ate 8 hours and fasted 16, that’s the 16:8. I now fast 21 hours and eat my calories in 3 hours, 21:3. I’m a lot less hungry since my body has adapted to this way of eating. This took time and my body slowly adjusted to it. This did take about 6 weeks to get to the 21:3.

I found you today, this is the second video I have watched. I don’t enjoy reading so it’s fantastic to increase my knowledge via your videos. Interestingly when I was in the Army, I felt more energetic eating one meal a day in the evening before bed than eating as soon as I wake and another five meals through out the day. I don’t believe this nonsense about humans needing to eat six meals a day.... rubbish. ‘The Warrior Diet’ by Ori Hofmekler is very interesting. Interesting when we fast as humans many wonderful things happen in the body, Ori speaks about this. Ori believed in intermittent fasting many many years ago, the scientific community and alike thought he was crazy, now look at all the literature coming out in support.

Intermittent fasting will not make your hunger go away. I've been fasting for 16 hours each day and eating 2500 calories a day and I'm hungry all day until I eat and hungry four or five hours after the first meal.

Hi dr boz. I wasn’t able to do the 72 hr fast but I have been doing intermittent for 8 days now. I have never lost so much weight and body fat so fast. This is the best diet ever if you can do it. I have a couple of medical questions, if you are able. Number one. I am noticing that when I work out I sweat much less than before. I do hydrate well, so I wonder why. Also, I have a medium size hiatal hernia and have problems with esophagitis which also seems to have improved with this diet, even though I eat a large meal at night. Any reason why? All in all though, I find this to be a very beneficial diet in many ways. Thanks much. Curtis
