The one thing that annoys me most is that the likes of Doctor Bosworth are flying in the face of conventional medicine and I truly believe that the food and pharma industries would shut them down pronto - if they had their chance.
It is absolutely impossible to comprehend the number of lives that are being saved here!
Thank goodness we have these amazing people to learn from.

I lived a successful keto life for several years to make sure I didn’t become diabetic as my entire family has diabetes. Then I retired and it was party on. Simultaneously I went through menopause and for the first time I gained about 25-30 lbs. I am now ready to take my health back. This series of videos is so informative and breaks down the science behind keto. Thanks Doc, reminding me how ketosis works, allows me to make better decisions on the food I eat.

You’re a great teacher doc. Thanks. Day 3 is when I start producing a significant amount of ketones. I continue measuring then different times during the day each day. It’s very encouraging knowing I’m in ketosis and getting the benefits. I know I just need to stay on track with my diet and be patient. In time, I will start to see great results. You are so right to emphasize the use of the keto test strips. It educates you about your food you consumed and how it affects your level of ketosis.

Ill be patient and will see results. More important is that im way more conscious of what ingredients & food im consuming & making health better.

Thank you, Dr. Boz. I just started watching your videos, and they are VERY informative. I'm also new to keto. I have always eaten breakfast because I thought it was healthy:) So I ate breakfast even when I wasn't hungry. I recall telling my husband, "I have to eat breakfast because it's healthy, but I am NOT hungry." LOL Sometimes breakfast included a boiled egg, but always included carbs and sugar...always. I felt yucky after eating breakfast...bloated, etc. This morning I decided to only eat breakfast when I felt hungry. I got up at 6am, and didn't feel hungry until 8:20am. Then I had an omelette (2 eggs, 1/2 red pepper) fried in butter + 2 cups of black coffee (no sugar). For the first time in my life I did NOT feel "yucky" after breakfast, did not feel bloated, and did not feel hungry half an hour after eating as I did after eating the carb/sugar breakfasts. I'm sure this is a wonderful sign of things to come as I begin my keto journey. Thank you for your very helpful videos.

I had no idea. I am 67 years old and I wish I had known about this when I was younger. I am on day 6 of the carnivore diet. Days 4 & 5 have been the worst, the Keto Flu.with watery diarrhea and I mean water. .. I am taking electrolytes.and also Pepto Bismol. I have noticed on day 6 having more energy and better clarity. of mind and not feeling miserable. I have been able to wait 7 -10 hours during the day before having my evening 2nd meal of my day.. I have noticed that when I am satiated the thought of eating anything is a bit nauseating so I know when I am hungry when the thought of eating food does not make me feel sick but rather eager to eat. I hope it stays this way. Thanks for these videos DOC very helpful and instructive. You are a caring physician.😃👍🙏

Just started the Keto diet after suffering real discomfort from my overweight mid section and tingling in my solar plexus area with discomfort. I was 88kg and although this may not seem vastly overweight to some, it was for me. I started by fasting for 48 hours, drinking water and black coffee and broke it with a steak and broccoli..last night. I'm really trying to be 100% committed to the Keto Diet - ordering urine strips and 2 books - one of which was yours! Fantastic videos, very informative and you have such a pleasant way about you that they're very easy to watch :) Added to my Keto Playlist and sharing with all of my friends and family! Thankyou!

I have been lean most of my life and now 68 years old. My systematic inflammation issues including a knee that was swollen for almost 4 months eventually brought me to The Universe of Keto Info. here on RUclips. I have benefited big time by getting off carbs and learning more about hidden sugars. I have known for decades to low key sugar and alcohol. I did not previously know how my carb intake was feeding my inflammation issues. ... I am appreciating your info. about what glucose numbers to aim at to empty my liver. I have been hitting near the 100 zone in the morning (possibly affected by my pollens allergy? or maybe something I need to discover). While my shopping and eating habits have changed big time for Keto over a few months, I know I have not yet achieved the "burning fat for fuel" zone I desire for the health benefit. With your lesson here, I am now intending to lean into a longer fast cycle to get my liver empty, and hopefully see a ketone strip change colors for my very first time. Thanks so very much for Being You ;+)

I have lost loads of weight doing this Keto diet, before I did cut down on carbs and walked very high step mountains etc and lost a bit of weight but not enough and still struggled to do so, but I went much stricter and cut out all carbs and i'm now down to about 72kgs from around 92 and a half kgs and I did this to get on the kidney donor swap scheme list for my sister as she is needing a donor and the hospital wanted my BMI at 77 kgs so i'm well below that weight now and waiting for my last and final consultation from the hospital. Me and my sister is matching but sadly her antibodies are too high so as you understand her body will reject my kidney but at least I got my BMI down. And thank you for your videos we all appreciate, take care Ade.

This woman id God... She nailed it right on the head why I don't lose weight with OMAD and low carbs. It's due to my T2D and stubborn Fatty liver.
Another big mistake I make [which I should not] is weight training. My body produces a lot of glucose and kicks me out of ketosis for two days.

After watching a ton of videos on this subject, this is the first one where I felt I had a real understanding of ketosis.I believe it's because she approaches it in a linear fashion. The others I have listened to seemed to pick up the topic at random points in the process that made my head spin. Those other videos would also make the subject seem contradictory and though that might be true, when explained properly it can still be clear done correctly- well done!!!!

Just to add to my comment below: Based on your info. about aiming for 55 - 85 mg/dL vs 95 to 100 + on my glucose meter, I decided to bit the bullet and fast past 16 -18 hours (usually less as I munched a few walnuts after coffee). My before coffee and apple cider vinegar routine / 1st thing morning glucose reading were often 100 plus with just a few high 90s. I had been hesitant to fast because I do not need to or want to loose weight (@ 68 years old / 5'11" -155 lbs). I eat good enough to have some resources to pull from while fasting and paid attention for my hydration electrolytes. I was surprised I had energy 1st day, and then second day. I noticed energy slack 3rd morning, but not drastic. I added fat into my coffee on 3rd day and broke fast slow 3rd day after noon. My morning glucose numbers have finally came down low enough (77 twice now) to start burning fat for fuel. I confirm I peed a ketone on a strip. This is a huge shift for me as I had been working on this for about the last 4 months while learning more about Keto Universe all the time via RUclips University. Thank You very much for your important information on glucose numbers to aim at while emptying the liver.

I fasted 18 hours, mostly by accident because I was never hungry. Suddenly I became nauseous, dizzy, and thought I was going* to throw up. Sat by the toilet with a cold washcloth on my forehead. Was that Keto flu? I went and drank some water with electrolytes and a pinch of sea salt an& felt better. Then I ate a bag of potato chips and felt great!

WOW. I have struggled with getting the last 50-60 pounds off for years. I managed to lose 105 pounds pretty fast (1 year) but then got stuck. I have been over 300 pounds for many years and now float between 265 an 285. I never heard about the taste of sweet causing an insulin reaction. I use pure Stevia and never see a spike in blood sugar after ingesting it, but, I am testing for glucose not insulin. I was following a Ketogenic diet (but not testing) when I lost the 100. In the past year I have had to study the body's energy systems for my work and understand more about the role of mitochondria. I just finished watching a lecture series on ketogenic/ mitochondrial energy production that was very informative. This videos series has helped me more than anything else I have read or watched. Thanks!!! One note though, please turn the gain down on your music as it gets rather glaring at the end. Keep up the tremendous work you are doing!!!!

Hi Dr. Boz I really enjoyed your informative video about the transitioning stages, you were very easy to understand and you could have been using me as the subject you were speaking about! I started keto backwards it seems! and had no problem giving up carbs or sugar and did this gradually the month before I started and made sure to up my intake of water as well, and started keto with "IF" since it was already how I ate my meals already. But I didn't even think about checking my status with the urine strips, and I just today used my 1st strip and I did see that I'm "slightly" in ketosis now (not sure which pink to believe it is, it looks like the moderate pink but more than likely it's the small pink) but anyway I can not for the life of me get my macros to work for me to get into full ketosis. My liver is very stubborn it seems! no matter what I try to remove from my meals, I still can't seem to go into full ketosis, I have looked at several videos of "Full Day Of Eating" from different people and have tried to make my meals similar to theirs and still no luck! Any suggestions... Or if you could let me know what you think I may be doing wrong, Anything! at this point would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

Do you know that after some substantial googling you are the only person I have come across who has asserted that liver glycogen stores can take longer than 24hrs to deplete? Your assertion is the only one to match my experience! I'm 72 hours into a water fast and not a hint of pink on the old ketostix. Granted my liver is huge and unhealthy and probably alcohol adapted rather than anything else.

I am just starting to see a slight hint of pink on the test strips, but this video makes it sound like this evidence should have been seen much earlier. I am on the treadmill for 40 minutes a day as well. Is this lag time in seeing much evidence of ketosis unusual??? I am getting plenty of fat as directed. Thanks for your great presentations.

You need to consider "the dawn phenomenon" when checking morning blood sugar. The spikes in the morning are often from cortisol spikes and gluconeogenesis.

I am finding these videos by Dr. Boz very helpful, she's great at explaining the stages the body goes through in transition to ketosis. But I think there is one small bit of misinformation here, she says the liver will start burning ketones, and it's my understanding from other sources that while the liver is the CREATOR of ketones, it cannot itself use the ketones it creates for fuel. The mitochondria in the liver run only on glucose or glycogen, which isn't a problem since the liver can create glucose through the gluconeogenesis process, so maybe this is a minor quibble that most people won't care about.

Dr. Boz, how do we empty out our liver glycogen stores if we take blood pressure medication such as Labetalol that keeps us fat? I can do the 3 day sardine fast, but is it a true fast if we take chemical drugs for our blood pressure? I want to truly heal, but taking drugs seem to be an obstacle to healing.

Getting into keto was very tough for me. It took about 6 weeks. I started with a 3 day fast, no ketones. Next week was a 5 day fast and on the last day I started to show signs of ketones in the urine, but just a trace. It wasn't until the last week which was an 8 day fast and the last 3 days of the fast that I finally saw moderate levels of ketones. If I had tried to do it without fasting, it would have never happened.

The biggest problem I have with eating a keto diet is the types of food that are promoted. It relies heavily on creams and eggs, both of which I'm allergic to. It also promotes eating carcinogenic foods such as bacon, lunch meat and sausage. It doesn't make sense to try to get healthy when you're putting cancer causing foods into your body. I would love to find someone who's written a keto diet that excludes allergenic and carcinogenic foods. Anyone know of such a book out there?

Can someone answer me, if the darker the keto strip. is that making ketones? How much should one make? Well in to keto eating then carnivore, I woke not hungry and it wasn't until the next day that I ate at 1:00. I have tested my keystones for 4 months and never got past the lightest pink so I bought a different ketone strip product and still after 3 months never got past the lightest pink. Can anyone tell me what I could possibly be doing wrong? I never hardly ever eat sweets, I never drink sodas even as a child, don't do alcohol or have never smoked. I don't know if Dr. Boz will read this or not.

Dr Boz! Thank you for educating us and caring for others! My morning glucose readings are consistently 99-111 and blood ketones are 1.1-2.5 for 25 days. I have eaten no carbs for this time. (All fat and meat) Should I be concerned that my glucose readings aren’t lower? They have dropped into the 70’s and 80’s during the day and at night. I appreciate your time!

Dr Boz thank you so much for these amazingly informative videos. I have been dieting all my life (at 61) and have found that the ketogenic lifestyle is the best choice for me. I have been following this way of eating since mid July and seeing slow steady weight loss. I am now thinking of fasting after watching part 3 of your series. Thanks again for the education and inspiration. I wish I could be your patient. Where is your practice?

Hello Dr. Box, I still watch and listen to many, many videos on the Ketogenic lifestyle, even though I have living that lifestyle for going on two years. There are mixed reviews about the strips. They aren't cheap and after day two or three days they don't work. You'll end up with 100 that you don't need. Comments?? Thank you.

BAMBAM IS BIG OK because you still raise your insulin levels. Dr berg does explain this. Using them helps people who are addicted to sugar to transition easier. Still if. You can live without it, you will get into ketosis quicker.

Hi Dr. Boz. I’ve recently found you. I’ve enjoyed your videos and I’ll check out your book. One question, if you don’t mind...do you consider stevia to be a sugar substitute? I don’t think it raises my blood sugar though I’ve heard some people believe that just having the sweet taste on your tongue prompts an insulin response. What do you think?

Keto strips are okay at first, but are not accurate whatsoever after being in ketosis for a couple weeks.
They are especially inaccurate if you're drinking copious amounts of water !
Which is best to do on keto, I was drinking near a gallon every day and it said I was not in ketosis !
Doing a blood monitor is worth doing because of this.

    • @HerbMartin52
      @HerbMartin52 5 лет назад

That probably has some truth in in but is likely quite misleading for beginners.
Ketostrips are never going to be accurate in the way that a lab assay or even a blood meter might be, but they do provide a useful and generally roughly accurate guideline, especially if you use them to learn your own body (e.g., how much carbs you can ingest while remaining in ketosis.)
IF you turn that strip super purple in 3-5 seconds (when development time is 15 or 40 seconds for you strip) you are almost certainly highly ketogenic. (maybe not the '16' or whatever is shown on the scale but you're doing just fine, especially if you feel good.)
If the strip beige and you are squinting trying to see a hint of pink -- and you KNOW what you ate today -- you aren't staying in ketosis.
Combine this with other tests that Dr. Boz describes like glucose meter and you get more data to try to box in what is really happening -- you will probably find that this does give you reliable results long term.

Keto strips actually measure excess ketones that are excreted in the urine. They become less accurate as your body becomes more adapted to burning the ketones. IMO measuring ketones isn't necessary.

  • @busker153
    @busker153 26 дней назад

If we are using a Ketone meter, do we need to use the urine strips? Or is that redundant?
And, does a reading of 0.2 constitute "making ketones?"
