  • On the night of April 21, 2017, someone walked into the Badisches Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe, Germany and walked out with a tiara worth $1.2 million.
    Who took it?
Spoiler alert - we don't know.
But the news inspired me to learn more about the tiara's owner, Grand Duchess Hilda of Baden. This research led me on a path that changed my life.

ABOUT THE GIRL IN THE TIARA
    ----------------------------------------------------
I tell stories about tiaras and the fascinating royal women who wore them. Join me as I follow these tiaras across generations and countries, through wars and revolutions and-sometimes-into darkness and disappearance and destruction.
    ABOUT THE STORIES I TELL
    ----------------------------------------------
Most of the stories I tell have a central figure, but don’t expect a linear biography. There are plenty of detours and scenic routes because that’s the only way to encompass the fascinating tidbits I come across, like Grand Duchess Louise of Baden’s meatloaf recipe and Crown Princess Stephanie of Austria's patented chafing dish.
This isn't the kind of history your professor lectured about. Instead, think of this as conversational history, like a mash-up of Drunk History and The Crown. Yes, there's a little swearing. There's also humor and heart and a boatload of compassion for these amazing royal women.
    ABOUT ME
    -------------------
I never intended to start a channel or a website about tiaras and royal history. But a midlife crisis forced me to re-examine my life. I gave up fiction writing after self-publishing 9 of the 10 books I'd written and earning next to nothing.
Instead of the misery of marketing books, I turned to my first love...royal history. So here I am, a 40-something burnout, trying to start over by recapturing her love of history, royal women, and their jewels.

Thanks for the feedback - that's very helpful. I was still getting the hang of things in this early video.

@@TheGirlintheTiara it is well worth redoing these early videos. I am interested but the experience of getting through this one is so annoying. I will subscribe since I started with your most recent video and I know it gets better.

I love the way you bring these almost forgotten stories back to life.

Thank you! For whatever reason, the stories that interest me most are always the ones no one has ever heard of. I don't do it on purpose. It's just what happens when I follow my heart. ;)

@@TheGirlintheTiara Talking of forgotten stories, I recall seeing the portrait you have used on the cover of your Vampire of Versailles book. Please remind me of her name. I am sure she was an American heiress who lost her parents early in life and thereafter lead a sad life. I am not into vampire tales but would take an interest in any non fiction books you might have in the pipeline. Thank you.

@@gerrymccartney3561 I had to go back and get that info from my cover designer! She's Elizabeth Winthrop Chanler, painted by Sargent. You can see the original here: www.wikiart.org/en/john-singer-sargent/elizabeth-winthrop-chanler-1893. I don't know anything about her, but she has such a haunted look that I'd believe her life was very sad, indeed. And yes, I'm planning on some non-fiction books in the near future - just need a few more hours in the day to work on everything after the day job. You don't happen to have the ability to stop or create time, do you? ;)

@@TheGirlintheTiara Sorry to have stolen a little bit of time from you but I am delighted that you got me the information I desired as it reminded me that I saw those haunted eyes in the National Museum of Art in Washington DC in the late 90s. Should I ever get to fly over to the USA again, I shall pay her another visit. Thank you.

@@gerrymccartney3561 No apologies needed - you're very welcome! I hope you get to see her again one of these days. Washington is such a great museum town. I'd love to spend more time there, too. :)

If they really destroyed it, that would be devastating!! No amount of money is worth destroying a piece of history. So many twists and turns, and wild bits! I can see why you're intrigued by this story.

The main story was to be about the robbery . Too many diversions , no focus on the main story and all over a very poorly made video .
