I'm kind of looking into getting an old and cheap VFR as my next bike. People told me to get the pre-VTEC models because they are more reliable. Now I see this. DAMN I WANT VTEC NOW!! Congrats on the great video and sound recording!
It's a nice bike. A bit on the heavy side though. The price on 800Fs in Europe at least, is way too high for what's offered, at least for my wallet to consider it as a second bike. The RC46 though, always a very good choice. Wouldn't classify as unreliable. Older generations will be extremely hard to find in very good condition. But if you're lucky, you'll find one that only needs some reasonable maintenance done to it.
Hey man, let me tell you about how awesome the old VFRs are. Dude, if you're looking for a comfortable sportbike that is in the affordable category, that SOUNDS FUCKING AWESOME, then it's hard to go wrong with an older VFR. Just this year I bought my 1998 VFR 800 FI (5th gen) for $2800. It has lots of miles but maintained perfectly. Both the VTEC and non-VTEC bikes are very reliable. Voltage regulators go out a lot, that's all. Not a super complicated fix. From what I can see the older VFRs all handle and ride about the same, have about the same body position and ergonomics, all about the same weight. A difference of something like 30 pounds will make absolutely no difference in what you can do on the bike. Let me tell you these bikes handle really well. They handle like a true sport bike, just slightly softer and more comfortable in every way than a true 600cc sport bike dialed in for track use. Go for it. Either the older gear-driven cam VFRs (awesome gear whine) or the newer VTEC models will all make absolutely delicious, exciting bikes to own and ride every day.
They are all reliable if well maintained. I would prefer a more recent bike, like a 2007-2010 rc46II... better fueling and less agressive vtec crossover! Had a 2011 model before this one and had a blast with her. Can't go wrong with VFRs, motorcycles well made in japan that last forever! Cheers mate and thanks for watching ✌ Ps: I'm a subcriber of your channel for long time, keep it up 👍
I have an 2008 VFR800. Brilliant bike, I also took it to the track a few times :). They are known for having some electrical issues but if that's fixed they are pretty reliable. I have to say however i have ridden a gen5 VFR800 for a few days and I liked it better than my 08 in some regards:). @V4 Rider I just installed an delkevic exhaust on my bike and it sounds very similar to this. Love these engines. Great video! Congrats!
I’ve driven nothing but stick shift Honda brand cars since I was 19 years old and I am 26 now , I will never get tired of that vtec crossover ! It’s so much fun for a reliable / gas saving car ! I’ve had a d15b vtec , b16a2 vtec , k20z1 ivtec, and now a k24z7 with a head swap , and let me tell you, when you have a open road , and you are banging them gears hitting vtec, IT IS ADDICTING ! You forget the fact that the car itself is fwd. Honda definitely has my favorite engines when it comes to saving gas money and having a smile on your face when you want it !
Man I know this is 2 years on but definitely look into a vfr800 or vfr800x I've got the X and the sound is nuts. I'm the same I had loads of honda cars, a few b16s and my track k20 type r. Vtec for the win!
The note change when it wakes up properly with the vtec kick-in, sounds amazing as does the burbling on the over-run. I think v4 engines are the pinnacle of motorcycle engineering👌👌 with Yamaha's crossplane crankshafts coming in at second place
It does switch both intake and exhaust. You'd be hard pressed to hear the intake in this video though, the microphone is obviously closer to the exhaust which is also quite loud. The reason for the marked change is that this version of VTEC switches from two valves per cylinder operation to four, doubling the valve area in the process. In the likes of a B, C or K series (car) engine, the switch is for the cam profile for all four valves. Since the total area is very similar between the profiles, the change is less pronounced. Although the rate at which the valves open is increased significantly on the high lift profile, so it is still a noticeable change, audibly - but mostly on the intake side.
Thanks for a great vid. It gave me a memory fizz. I had a VFR800X and loved the sound of the 2nd cam waking up. Just invested in the VFR1200X. So I'm looking for a smile 2/3rds wider.

in my opinion, the sound is better than many liters,

This is the video that swayed me into buying my 2002 vfr VTEC and i don't regret it. Easily the coolest sounding bike around
I spent 2 weeks on one of these in England and the Isle of Man. Such a perfect bike to ride all day, and my God, the sound!

Gotta applaud the engineers behind this engine family. Such a fine design.

This video made me consider buying the VFR800 last gen aswell. My god the sound!
Honda should really put this engine in a cb1000r frame!

Along with the single side swing arm or a more modern version of it

Nah, better use it for new Magna

The moment when the V-Tec starts to work....amazing and awesome sound.
