    Really interesting review, particularly given your experience of other EVs and passion for the topic. Useful too to get your views on the Extended range offering the best combination of range, performance and handling. Very encouraging, thanks for sharing this!

    Thanks for the extensive review and comments about your experience. I'm 3 months and 2.000 kms on the same model as yours (same color too), and loving it so far, with minor niggles. By far the best thing is the handling and responsiveness.

      Glad to hear you're also enjoying the car. The handling was probably the biggest argument for the car.

    Any comments about the service that you had done on this car? Did the software update improve it? I test drove an identical orange one this week, in NZ. Your review does help me decide, still thinking about the car. I subscribed

      Hi, as far as the updates that have been done on the car in November 2024. The infotainment is still on the R46 version and was not updated further. The main feature missing is EV routeplanning which came in later versions.
      The updates that were carried out on the car for free were the following.
      1. Lane assist, although I can't say it's much better (this is mandatory due to EU regulations and cannot be permanently turned off)
      2. Adaptive Cruise Control: The ACC no longer slows down as much in corners, and can be adjusted in increments of 1 km/h as opposed to 5 as was previously the case.
      The udpates that are available for the car (in particular infotainment updates) are region specific. Also in certain markets MG has started charging extra for software updates unless related to a warranty claim or fault.

    41:35 it is not only the Japanese that squandered it. Look at the Hyundai 28 and 38 models. What amazing cars, I still drive my 28 and they stopped production of them, imagine them with a 77 battery in them now with their amazing fuel economy.

      @tzeimet  4 месяца назад

      @@clayton4115 I’ve driven the Ioniq 38kWh, while it’s a wonderful car with great economy. I’m not sure how well it would sell in today’s SUV crazed market, even the Ioniq 6 isn’t doing too well in Europe.
      But the Korean manufacturers are still very much relevant in the EV sector, unlike Nissan for example (the Ariya is codeveloped with Renault). The Ioniq 5 and 6 were the first mass market 800V cars.
      The Kia EV3 is going to be an affordable (and relatively efficient) long range EV.

      @@tzeimet Yes same problem here in Australia everyone is buying SUV's that is why I am considering the 77 MG4 as my replacement to my Ioniq 28 that I have had for 4 years (wonderful car) but the battery is too small for road trips (very poor EV infrastructure in Australia away from main cities) The MG4 suits my taste, small compact hatch and it is an EV.

    Great review. Is the black on the roof wrap over the orange paint or is it painted black? I’m not a fan of the black roof in Australia so would be good to have the option of removing.

    • @tzeimet
      @tzeimet  2 месяца назад

      I believe it's painted. The black roof is only available on the extended range in Europe from the 2023 refresh.

    I'll be looking out for one of these when they hit £10k on the used market.. and hopefully they will have sorted out all the software issues by then!

    • @tzeimet
      @tzeimet  4 месяца назад

      @@decimal1815 I think most of the software issues have been fixed in the 2024 update. Except those required by law/NCAP like Emergency Lane Keeping, Automatic Emergency Braking and of course Intelligent Speed Assist on cars made after 07/2024. They’re probably better than on my car, but they’re still there.
      Nothing can be done about that. You’ll just have to deactivate them every time you start the car if they bother you. That’s going to be the case for pretty much all new cars made in 2024 and later.

    Hi Tom. In my Australian MG4 77 I'm an early tester of MG4 EV charger route planning (see my video). Tesla, Polestar, Volvo built-in charger planning is far superior though.
    And if I'm on the infotainment Home screen and swipe down from the centre top, one of the option buttons is ELK to turn off emergency lane keep assist easily.

    • @tzeimet
      @tzeimet  4 месяца назад +1

      Sounds like you're on the latest R59 infotainment software, mine still has the R46 software. I agree that Volvo (or generally the Google based cars) have some of the best routeplanning, with the advantage that battery preheating is automatically activated when navigating to a charging station.

    how powerfull is usb c in the car? how many watts?

    • @tzeimet
      @tzeimet  5 дней назад

      The USB-C port is primarily meant for data transfer (USB stick etc.) for the infotainment system. It does not output much power, hardly enough to charge an iPhone and my Apple watch charger or Dashcam cannot run off it. Therefore I'd estimate the output at less than 5W, the USB-A port appears to output the standard 5W and can be used for Apple Carplay or Android Auto (the USB-C does not support this).

    I think you have the old software on the interface display. With the new update you can (for example in CarPlay) just swipe down from the AC controls and disable lane keep assist or switch off the car among other things very quickly.

    • @tzeimet
      @tzeimet  4 месяца назад

      Yes. It’s the R46 software on my car. So mid-2023 I believe.
      It’s not the first gen software which had a different climate menu, and god awful LKA and attention monitoring . Now LKA is just annoying.

  • @pyroslavia9499
    @pyroslavia9499 4 месяца назад +1

    got xpower and 15000km on it. used to have leaf, something was better in leaf, LKA and one pedal drive modes u didnt have to set up after every start. and it even had a button to set one pedal mode fast, also worked with 100% battery. Good things in MG4X still alot better. obviously the AWD and performance. also the DC charging from 0% to 55% almost 140kw flat

    • @tzeimet
      @tzeimet  4 месяца назад

      The LKA (specifically the ELK) is unfortunately part of the new EU safety requirements. However, the one pedal drive issue is annoying, as I understand it, it is because the MG4 will only allow one pedal drive when the battery is warm enough, so it cannot be activated from the start.

    Can you use the steering wheel programmable shortcut buttons to turn off the lane assist?

    • @tzeimet
      @tzeimet  4 месяца назад +2

      @@richardheasman Unfortunately not, at least on my software version (and what I’ve seen of the R59 update). On my car they can only be programmed to the following functions.
      1. Regen setting
      2. Drive Mode
      3. Activate 360 camera (only available at manoeuvring speed)
      4. Climate control (opens mini menu in driver’s display, can use the joystick to change temperature).
      ruclips.net/video/IFlKTAdfPvs/видео.html
      This video highlights some of the changes in the R59 update. I will make a video on the update if I get it, although I will definitely be keeping an eye out for any reports of stability issues before risking it (which is why the UK rollout was paused earlier this year).

      @tzeimet Thanks for the info, I enjoyed your long term review. At the moment I have only seen comment on the Renault e-tech cars where a button can be programmed to turn multiple driver aids off. I have an old style MG5 which has been as you described "rock solid" reliabile so a replacement for my wife's car is the next quest.

      @@richardheasman Thanks! It would’ve been nice to have the option to turn it off via shortcut button or via the voice assistant as many German cars do.
      Unfortunately even the software shortcut in the R59 update requires the driver to confirm to turn off LKA.

    Great review , maybe I missed it but what is the battery degradation, and do you think k you would get 10 years out of the car , cheers

    • @tzeimet
      @tzeimet  4 месяца назад

      @@honestjohn6222 Unfortunately it’s no longer possible to use generic OBD2 scanners and apps to read degradation data from the MG (something they changed in the car’s software I think). So I will only be able to get a concrete degradation figure when the car goes for its first service in the next month or so.
      Anecdotally I can say that I haven’t noticed any loss of range over the last year, I think being such a big battery I think it should be able to last 10 years without excessive degradation for the average driver and average mileage per year. Based on degradation alone and bar any random failures.
      Since it uses conventional NMC batteries and unlike some cars it doesn’t have much hidden capacity (buffer) so it’s best practice to limit the charge to 80% for daily use as indicated in the car’s software/app. This should help reduce degradation.

  • @czeital
    @czeital 8 дней назад

    it beggars belief that they can't change the software so that prefs like turning off LKA are not saved and no wireless car play strange expecially with wirelss charger

    • @tzeimet
      @tzeimet  8 дней назад

      @@czeital The LKA is due to EU regulations (which have also been replicated in UK law), from July 2022 for new models introduced after this date and July 2024 for existing models. New cars from July 2024 also need to have ‘intelligent’ speed assist which thankfully this car doesn’t have. The mandatory assistance systems must reactivate at start.
