Ways to Turn Belly Fat into Body Heat (brown fat activation) - Thomas DeLauer
    Cold Therapy
One study, published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, looked at 12 young men with lower-than-average amounts of active brown fat who were asked to sit in a 63-degree Fahrenheit room for two hours a day over the course of six weeks
They burned an extra 108 calories in the cold compared with normal indoor temperatures - after six weeks their bodies were burning an extra 289 calories in the cold, prompting researchers to hypothesize that the exposure to lower temps increased the activity of a gene that converts white fat to brown
    www.jci.org/ar...
    Why This Is
A study published in the journal Nature found that low temperature exposure causes stem cells to form brown fat instead of white fat
Specifically, to induce adipocyte browning using bone marrow (BM) derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), there is a temperature differentiation at 32 °C instead of 37 °C (lowered from 37 to 32 degrees)
The low temperature promoted browning in adipogenic cultures, with increased adipocyte differentiation and upregulation of adipogenic and thermogenic factors, especially UCP1
    www.nature.com...
    Fasting
Fasting-induced adipose-VEGF induces M2 macrophage activation, which triggers WAT browning
    www.nature.com...
    Ketosis
A study published in the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology found that a keto diet increases brown adipose tissue mitochondrial proteins and UCP1 levels in mice
Mice were put on either a keto diet or a regular chow diet - in the keto group, blood glucose levels were 30% lower while D-β-hydroxybutyrate levels were about 3.5-fold higher
Median mitochondrial size in the interscapular BAT (IBAT) of the KD group was about 60% greater, whereas the median lipid droplet size was about half of that in the chow group. Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation proteins were increased (1.5-3-fold) and the uncoupling protein 1 levels were increased by threefold in mice fed the KD
AMP levels were 60% higher in the KD group and cAMP response element binding protein was 2.5-fold higher, suggesting increased sympathetic system activity.
demonstrate that a KD can also increase BAT mitochondrial size and protein levels.
The KD increased markers of sympathetic activity (cAMP and CREB levels) in the BAT of the mice.
    www.ncbi.nlm.n...
    HIIT
A study published in Diabetology & Metabolic Syndrome looked at the effects of aerobic training (15) vs HIIT (15) in female adolescents
The session of aerobic exercise included cycling at 65% of their peak heart rate (HRpeak) for 40 min. In the HIIT group, exercise included six bouts of 1 min at 85-95% HRpeak separated by 1 min of recovery
Levels of expression of irisin in skeletal muscle increased significantly after a session of HIIT (p less than 0.05), while aerobic exercise no effect on irisin levels
    www.ncbi.nlm.n...
Exercise causes muscle cells to release a protein hormone called irisin - Irisin acts upon white fat to alter it by giving it properties of brown fat by increasing the number of mitochondria within the white fat cells, changing the color of the fat cells to beige cells - essentially mimicking brown fat’s effects
    www.ncbi.nlm.n...
    Turmeric
A study published in Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications found that curcumin promotes browning of white adipose tissue in a norepinephrine-dependent way
Specifically, curcumin promotes β3AR gene expression in inguinal WAT and elevates the levels of plasma norepinephrine, a hormone that can induce WAT browning

@@romeotango5597 I have been depressed about 2020 and the death of sanity. the cool showers have certainly helped. If you aren’t shivering, it’s EXCITING coming out of a cold shower. Start with a regular warm shower, then get cooler bit by bit. Had a stroke once and can’t take the cold all at once. After 10 days I shower in water that’s cold enough to not need ice cubes if I were to drink it. Breathe deeper in the shower to trigger extra body heat and do Wim Hof breathing out of shower.

Our Rishis and Saadhus made us several of these points our way of life. For example, we use turmeric in several of our dishes. We are advised to fast weekly and during 'Sankashti', making it a religious thing (health benefit + good karma). Rishis and Sages used to take cold showers in early hours like 4.00 AM. Sukhasana /Padmasana was how we used to sit normally before chairs became mainstream. I am proud of my country's ancient culture. And thanks to you, Tom for backing this up with your modern research.

Cold showers isn't nearly enough to get noticable results, you're spending like 20 minutes in water that is far warmer than you think. If you got a thermometer you'd see that it's probably sitting around 10 degrees even you don't touch the hot water which is hardly anything. Ice baths and being in close to freezing environments is where the actual gains are. If you look at Win Hoff he has heaps of brown fat on his body.

I have food allergies unfortunately so when I bread chicken I use potato starch, gluten free flour, salt, pepper, garlic, and turmeric. I put it in a ziplock container and add the chicken into the container to bread it. It’s hard to say how much I use on chicken since it’s in a blend. I also use turmeric in the batter I use to bread the chicken.
It’s really hard for me to say that the turmeric is what’s making all the difference but I will say I haven’t changed anything since Jan 1, 2019. I’ve had the same workout regime and the same diet and the same fasting schedule. Since adding the turmeric I’m definitely having less inflammation and my abs are flatter. I have a glass of red wine a few nights a week and the little bit of water weight I was carrying from the wine disappeared after I started on the turmeric.

I don't wake up shivering like I would during previous years (I always try sleeping without blanket after the hottest days off summer are over). Instead, I'm falling asleep fast and sleep tightly for a solid 8 hours. Also I noticed I don't get cold almost at all in the beach even after swimming, while others are shivering. Could of course be coincidence, but it's still an interesting observation. I'll see how far into the autumn I make it without blanket.

Lost lots of weight, yes. But apart from weight I’m measuring waist too - once a month though. And this month my waist was the same! So I’m not even going on the scale Decided to fast two days a week. And one week is behind me. Easy... if you desperate.

Thomas, I love all the products that you promote on your videos. But none of them ship to Canada, not keto-MOJO, not thrive, not butcher box. Please talk to them about this. Cause you have a lot of Canadian fans.

Dear Thomas, Love your channel and watch it often. One major pain in the ass recently is for you you to bullshit every episode about being the leading blablabla... Your a nice guy. Stop being so insecure and let people figure that out for themselves. Deal? Big hug, Danny

    • @ThomasDeLauerOfficial
      @ThomasDeLauerOfficial  5 лет назад

No deal. It’s not for you. It’s for the new people

    • @devildelivery
      @devildelivery 5 лет назад

It’s always nice to recieve an self explanitory answer without any concideration on the issue stated... Problem is.., your dumping that crap on your subscribers too... Maybe think about a short version that doesn’t state how important you think you are? It’s beneath everyone. Including you.

    • @devildelivery

And if you wanna stick bij this version, maybe put it right after the content so we -who have heard it often enough- can skipp? Be a sport. Make it happen.

Thomas, love your videos. I’ve been pretty strict Keto for over 2 years now. Your videos have given me great tips to stay on track & more info than I can remember at one time.
I’ve come to the point where I’m very happy with my weight is & my performance with Crossfit has really shown an improvement. Only thing is I don’t want to lose any more weight, but don’t want to get off of Keto. Any tips beyond eating 4K in cals?
Thanks in advance & keep up the great work!

Dr. Jockers has a Metabolic Master Class that describes 'carb cycling' and how to structure it: 4-5 days internittent fasting, one day OMAD and one day more quantity total carbs 'feasting'.
I think Thomas also talks about 'carb cycling' for metabolic flexibility when you have actusl keto working for you.
