After she became addicted to heroin, Carangi's modeling career rapidly declined. She died of AIDS-related complications at the age of 26, becoming one of the first famous women to die of the disease. Her life was dramatized in the television film Gia, starring Angelina Jolie, which debuted on HBO in 1998.

Her Mom abandoned her around 8 yrs old & left her in a house full of males (her brothers)....she had a lot of issues.
Then she was alone in NYC at 18 or 19 & that's not a good situation for someone with her background.

Cindy is beautiful but Gia had an intensity in her eyes and attitude that Cindy lacks. Even looking at these pictures side by side your eyes are always drawn to Gia. She is more interesting and enticing looking. There was so much personality and vulnerability in Gia's eyes and she was so full of life and unpredictable which many photographers said made her such a great model. When you look at her pictures, it's almost like you're looking into her soul. She is also more versatile than Cindy, Gia could look innocent, wild, sexual, butch, feminine, child-like, seductive, natural, editorial and her body could not be beat. She was always changing, almost unrecognizable at times but those gorgeous, intense eyes were her signature and were always there...Gia, hands down.
There is a sadness in Gia's eyes that makes her seem raw whereas Cindy looks more like a doll.

Why is this even a question? Gia is the only right answer. Gia was a force of nature. With an unmistakable presence. Whenever she walked into a room, everybody paid attention. Several models recounted how, when being in the presence of Gia, they felt as if they were about to pass out. Straight or lesbian, didn't matter! They all were helplessly drawn to her, like a Siren's song almost.

Imo, no one compares to Gia! While I think Cindy is attractive, Gia had it all. Even just looking only at their eyes in the pics of them here, you can see so much more life in Gia's eyes. She naturally smolders in her photos, piercing straight through the lens, and captivating the viewer. Looking at Cindy, I don't feel anything from her, I just see just a pretty face. But Gia wore her emotions on her face (and through her body) whether it be sensuality, vulnerability, passion, pain, etc... it draws me into her. Gia was made for modeling and Cindy was made to look like "baby Gia". No contest. Suffice to say, Gia has always been my favorite...

I never understood why the industry dubbed Cindy "Baby Gia" when in my opinion, both ladies looked nothing alike. The only thing they had in common as far as looks, was both had dark hair, dark eyes and modeled.

So arrogant considering no one would have looked twice at her if not for Gia, she probably knew that deep down & that's why hated being called "Baby Gia"....it IS a industry based totally on looks. December Leigh, I knew about the "baby Gia" thing, and how makeup artists and hair stylists intentionally made up Cindy to make her look more like Gia, etc... But Cindy actually called Gia "trashy"? That's awful. And ironic too because saying someone is trashy is kind of trashy in itself. Especially taking into consideration that Cindy's career as a model started out was because she looked like Gia. And Cindy knew this! Also, I'm of the opinion that it's in very poor taste to say bad things about someone that is no longer alive, no longer around to defend themselves. I think the major difference between Gia and Cindy is not whether or not they share the same physicality, it’s what they project through their eyes. The difference in their upbringing speaks volumes. Gia’s childhood was horrendous. Cindy’s was not. Gia suffered so much pain in her early years. Cindy did not. I’m saying this not because I knew them both personally, which I did not. It’s only because of what I’ve read about them. Gia was into drugs long before she started modeling. I don’t believe Cindy ever did drugs. You can see the absolute pain in Gia’s eyes. The same pain I saw in Princess Diana’s eyes. Cindy projected something entirely different through her eyes.
Its stunning the resemblance theses outrageously beautiful woman have. But Gia is more sultry.

Gia had softer yet sharp features, and much better lips and eyes and could morph. Hard to come by something even remotely as beautiful. Cindy is beautiful but nothing special. You can find better just by going to Russia/Siberia in the most obscure places. Gia in the other hand is unique!
Gia had a more ETHNIC Italian look about her. Cindy had a narrow nose in my opinion made her photograph better. In the beginning of Cindys career she was called BABY GIA before she made a name for herself. Only Gia and Janice had the dark hair at the time and they did many photo shoots together they were different and exotic .They werent the typical blonde like Cheryl Teiggs Lauren Hutton Christy Brinkley although gorgeous it was a tierd look. Gia definitely opened doors for Cindys look and Brooke Shields. All incredibly beautiful girls.

Beautiful as she is, Cindy just pales when placed next to Gia. Apart from the obvious, Gia’s mesmerising eyes which makes even Cindy’s look inferior, Gia’s jawline, nose, are all aesthetically better (in my opinion). I’ve heard so much about ‘baby Gia’ and I think this was a HUGE disservice to Gia as there was is and always will be, only ONE!. One more point, Gia looked stunning makeup free and was a chameleon when it came to different looks, if they had Modelled at the same time Cindy would have been eclipsed I’m sure.

one thing I've noticed is the posters on here go out of there way to cut one or the other down, both are gorgeous women and sadly Gia just could not deal with her inner demons and only knew how to through the use of drugs, which tragically cost her. Yes they are very similar but unique in there own ways. Crawford has managed to survive the wild side of that industry.
