You are correct, the numbers are stamped in that area. That is a pretty good guess at what the hole is for, but I believe that the subrail extension is far enough outside the frame that if you looked through that hole, you wouldn't see the frame rail. Good guess though, and I scratched my head a while on it. I thought that might be it for a while. The best guess so far is that its for a hand brake on the early 28's. Hey, thanks for checking out my channel! I appreciate the comment! Have a good one!
I don’t know why I kept calling them braces. At some point in the video, I corrected myself and said they are called baffles. I don’t know what I was thinking. I guess that’s what I get for making videos after a long hard day at work. 😂 Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a good one!
A Model A tank was the first thing I cut for a friend when I first got my plasma cutter....it was a smoky mess, kept the mosquitos away. I should be getting back on my Special here soon, did some trading for a bunch of parts (to finish other projects) for the '31 4dr. Opened the spot back up for it. Great videos, I'm sure your A will be done before mine at the rate I'm going.
Wow that is amazing tool not like oxygen and gas cutting makes lot easier to do mighty fine guessing Meg to weld bk together ? Thks for sharing getting to work back on mine slowly 28 essexx old ticker causing issues lately un able to get to shop lately doing same as you lot of issues with the trunk making floor stick to posts we will getter done your great teacher for use older guys ha ha 😊
Nice job on cutting out the tank,, Saving the dash for a wall hanger is a fabulous idea... Love this time of the year,, but hate the humidity that comes with it,, any bare metal will surely start to flash rust quickly because of it.... Progress is going good so far my friend,,, keep it going, we’ll keep watching....
Thanks for watching! I used concrete and metal prep by Klean Strip. It does work fast on light surface rust. These parts were cleaned recently, so the rust wasn't heavy or deep. It took maybe an hour of going back and forth and spraying them down while I was working on other thigs to get them rust free. Its hard to show all that in a 25 minute video LOL. Thanks for the comment.
Another great video Phil!
Thank you sir!
Looks good. You did a nice sanitary job cutting out the tank.
RICK
Thanks Rick! It was a fun little project, a nice break from rust repair.
good man 👍🤘
Thanks ✌
Excellent job on the tank Phil!!
Thank you sir!
Really looking great! Is that hole on the kick panel bracket to allow someone to view the VIN? If I recall it would be stamped in that area.

Those braces are actually fuel baffles. All tanks have them. Old tanks are so problematic to clean, your solution is the best for that tank. Good job.

It’s better already!
Yes sir! Trying to make steady progress!

I made a little smoke, but not too bad actually. the tank has been empty for many years and was dry as a bone.

You are right on about the humidity. It gets pretty high here, and it has been raining a good bit lately. Have a good one Ol' Moe!
GREAT VIDEO PHIL, I NEVER KNEW HOW THE COWL CAME APART ON THAT YEAR MODEL A'S. WHAT BRAND METAL PREP ARE YOU USING, SEEMS TO WORK REAL FAST.

leave the filler
I'll give some thought to it. I also have thought about installing a cowl vent there as well. Thanks for the comment!
