I'd say seeing the Wanga Prick is extremely rare since you yourself have to have it and get a kill or be killed by someone with it without being backstabbed since nobody else will see the kill icon except you and the spy.
Personally, I feel like the reflected stickybomb kill icon is the rarest. It is really difficult to have it appear, because it only appears if the stickybomb is detonated while it is still airborne when it detonates (otherwise it just counts as finishing off). I have seen it at most 3 times in my 5,300 hours of playing, despite stickybombs being super common to see.

You used to see a _lot_ more Lumbricus Lids back in the day, as I remember. This was back the the Equalizer was one weapon- and by far the most popular soldier melee- and the Rocket Jumper would prevent you from taking self-damage from the Kamikaze taunt. Kamikazeing battlement snipers and clueless heavies on 2Fort and Hightower was a popular alternate take on typical trolldier shenanigans, so a fair amount of trolldiers who were particularly committed to the bit would grab the Lid to make their Kamikaze kills a bit more distinct. It still wasn't super common to see, but I'd consider it akin to seeing a pyro main using the Rainblower: uncommon, but you'll see one very now and then if you keep an eye out. Now, though, as more and more soldier melees are better balanced, and the Rocket Jumper no longer prevents self-damage from Kamikaze, yeah. The Lumbricus Lid is nowhere to be seen, and sadly, Kamikaze-spamming soldier is dead. RIP to the bug that gave us so many antics, immortalized in Star_'s classic _TF2 Sniper_Stomper_ video.
I used the Lumbricus Lid for years and never really changed to anything else. Once I have a cosmetic loadout I like, I very rarely change it. I eventually moved away from it, but this might have convinced me to put it back on.
The only situation I can think of where you can get the reflected rescue ranger kill is in TF2 x10 because of the pyro’s insane airblast, but even that feels like it wouldn’t happen much
To be fair, while the Black Rose is a cooler knife and any Spy player will see it as good-looking skin, there are two reasons why you don't see it often: 1- While it's true it was free to get if you got some achievement in another free to play game, said game (A.V.A.) was known to be fishy and have some shady stuff in it, so people just avoided it. 2- A.V.A. was also shut down a while ago, so getting the knife nowadays by yourself it's impossible. You can only get in in market, and because it's normally unobtainable now, it costs A LOT. It really is a collector's item at this point.
Wow I didn't realize it's rare now but yeah. I have an untradeable one and I never really gave it much thought because at the time, that game was pretty active so it was easy to get. So I just thought "eh it's cool but anyone can get it easily". I didn't realize that yeah it's impossible to get it now, so it feels cool to have one, even though it's untradeable.
I got the black rose, but seriously regret not making the $5 investment in Night at the Poker Inventory, I didn’t want to spend the time to get the items from that game but now I’d rather play it for hours than pay half price on the lugermorph or enthusiasts time piece.
I think the problem is that you can’t killstreak the Crossing Guard with its own kit, you have to get a Universal one. Pretty sure it’s the only Strange weapon without a Killstreak Kit that can actually kill.
@@llmkursk8254 You're probably right. I just use it because I thought it was funny when I bought it and have so many kills on my strange it wouldn't be worth to sell now.
I've gotten a non-critical headshot before and it confused me because normally you'd hear the person who got shot scream but it was a simple grunt with the headshot death animation that played, the person got mad and thought it was a bodyshot
Well I have around 3k hours and I have only seen this icon once: The skull death icon like when you fall off a cliff, but critical. It was on hightower, and i will never forget it. The red shiny mist around the skull, its probably the rarest, i dont even know how it happened
Something interesting about the Flaming Skull and Crossbones kill icon is that it existed long before the Cow Mangler was in the game. I still don't know what its triggers were, but you would occasionally see it.
The Machina penetration kill icon becomes a lot more common when you play MvM, as a lot of bullet weapons get Projectile Penetration upgrades which then use the Machina's kill icon for such situations, regardless of whether it was a Machina kill or not. That said, MvM doesn't display kills against normal robots from your teammates, so you'll only see those kills in the feed if you're personally contributing to the kill or if it happens to a Giant robot. Sadly, the Medic's projectile shield doesn't have a unique kill icon, just the default skull and crossbones. Shame.
I like how you picked the best actual option and not just a super obscure single weapon 1 person has or something. Possible to happen in many games just so unlikely it never shows up.
I have no idea what happened, but one time I was playing Engineer and somehow got a critical sentry gun kill? It had the shiny red background on the killfeed. I think what happened is that I got a sentry kill on someone who was Marked-For-Death or covered in Jarate and I managed to kill them with a mini-crit.
8:38 "It used to be possible to kill someone with sappers by beating them at Rock, Paper, Scissors while holding one." Used to? It's still possible. The RPS taunt uses the kill icon for whatever weapon you're holding, which of course means if you are holding a Medigun, food item, Jarate, Milk, etc - you get the default skull icon since all of those lack their own one. (It would have been nice if Valve added a kill icon for the Medigun's Projectile Shield during the Two Cities Update, especially since that cuts through bots like a hot knife through butter, but alas it's stuck with the default skull.)
@@EzekiesAcheron I have to look at this because I'm pretty sure it's impossible. Even if a pyro reflects a sticky and the Demo is holding down M2 so it blows up on himself, it doesn't count as a reflect. The demo just takes his standard self-damage and the kill feed if it kills him is the same as if he kills himself through any kind of self-damage.
4:11 train killicons are not rare, as they are the default icon for movic enviromental object. thats why you will see them very often on custom maps, especially deathrun
This is very interesting to see when you started playing Tf2. The channel seems to cover a lot of useful topics. I will definitely stay here so I can learn more about the game
I'm pretty sure the reflected sticky icon is way harder to come by than the reflected Rescue Ranger one, not because it's hard to reflect stickies but because usually you get a "finished off" kill instead. I have a friend that got it a few months ago, and he believes that you can only get it if: 1) You don't damage the demo in any way (fire, shotgun, other reflects, etc); 2) You need to reflect the sticky while it's in the air and the Demo has to explode it while it's still in the air; 3) He kills himself with that, so to begin with he has to be low health by prior self-damage or be away of combat for some time; If any of the conditions are not met you just get a "finished off" kill instead. I'm not sure if you get this icon with other people damaging the Demo but I believe that he has to be at that point that the damage he received is not credited to anyone or it's all self damage. Again, I'm 100% not sure if those are the conditions exactly, but I know they are hard to come by and to pull off.
It does, I have a friend that got it a few months ago. Problem is, it's hard as hell to get because needs several conditions to appear. I'm not 100% sure, but I think you can't damage the demo in any way (fire, shotgun, etc), so he has to be low health by himself for some time, then you need to reflect the sticky while it's in the air and the Demo has to explode it, killing himself, while it's still in the air. @@clueless6738 It was against a bot several years ago, but I actually once got a reflect sticky kill by reflecting a sticky trap that, while it was still moving, the bot demo detonated and killed himself. I am not sure if it has been changed, but that would suggest the stickies simply have to be in motion, not airborne.
If you reflect a flaming arrow and it makes a headshot with a player, then you as a pyro will only see a sniper rifle headshot kill icon. While the sniper rifle headshot kill icon is not rare on its own, seeing a pyro inflict it is incredibly rare.
You would be surprised at how effective overdose at the moments when you run away from an enemy and spray it at them. This either kills the chaser, or makes him move to the sides, ensuring your escape
I absolutely agree with you. In my years of playing TF2, I have never seen a Pyro trying to reflect Rescue Ranger repair claws, considering these projectiles are fast like Huntsman arrows.
As a batsaber owner, I can definitely confirm my time using melee as a scout player at least tripled since getting one. (It's not strange though, but the unboxing grind doesn't stop)
I like the one where you get a kill with the projectile for either the sandman or the wrap assassin. Not the weapon itself, but the projectile. Death by being beaned is hilarious.
2:30 "...weapon reskins that aren't that expensive, but nobody seems to run for whatever reason" >Shows the black rose You do realise that that thing is like 150 keys, right? I'm aware that it came from an achievement back in the day, but it's no longer obtainable.
I would argue that the lumbricious lid taunt kill was exceptionally common back in the day because at the time of release the equalizer was one item and not split into equalizer + escape plan. On top of that the old rocket jumper had a glitch where it counted all self induced blast damage, which included the kamikaze taunt, and the hat pre-dates that patch as well.
Reflected stickies kill icon is bugged and impossible to get in-game. Instead you typically get "user finished off" or something, with the default death icon. If Demo detonates his own stickies after having them reflected into his face, they also don't deal minicrit damage because Pyro can't inherit stickies like he does other projectiles. It used to be possible but then a few evil sorts thought it would be funny to use reflect to get permanent minicrits on stickies. Then it got nerfed, but in the process caused some bugs.
I feel like the Ap-Sap and Snack Attack would fall into the same sort of category as the Batsaber or the Golden Frying Pan. Sure, they're not quite as expensive at only a few keys, but considering they're stock reskins on a weapon where the only alternative is kinda bad, there's pretty much no reason not to use them if you own them.
To be fair the AP-sap is definitely still worse then the stock sapper as I'm pretty sure the Wheatley Voice lines are heard by the enemy team as well basically giving you away.... well assuming the enemy team is listening
Man, watching this vid gave me hardcore flashbacks to my TF2 days, I was poor as dirt, but damn did I know and play with some awsome people. Used to play with a dude that had a Golden Wrench (I still have the Fan o War he gifted me in my emptied out tf2 backpack), ran into about 3 people with the Memory Maker, and I once saw a real Burning Team Captain. I saw alot of cool shit in my times of wandering the far corners of the server browser.
Im surprised you didn't mention the kill icon that requires a soldier to die from the afterburn of a self-inflicted charged shot from the cow mangler, unless there is another way to get the icon I am unaware of, the only reason I know it exists was because I used to be a really bad soldier main who used the mangler.
Just reminds me of what a massive shame it is that TF2 has so many great and unique cosmetics that will never see the light of day due to their sheer rarity.
That's nothing compared to TCGs. Wixoss has cards that have probably never been used in any game ever because there's less than ten copies of them in the world. MTG and Yu-gi-oh also have rare cards but you can see them in simulators.
I’ve seen it as a Scunt alternative to the fish. Just showing hits in the chat is enough to get Scunts to use it, although I honestly see more warpaint fish instead just to show off more.
The funny thing is, I do remember seeing quite a few Holy hand grenade kills back in the day, when it just came out. But that trend was pretty short lived.
i actually got the reflected claw icon twice. i was reflecting an engies claws from across the map but accidentally hit a scout walking by. the other time was on a dead ringer spy.
Hey, I like the Lumbricus Lid. Anyway, I only learned that reflect sticky has a kill icon several thousand hours into the game which blew my mind. It's rare because the time window is very low. The Demo needs to blow himself up pretty soon after you reflected the sticky, if he does it too late he will have suicided instead.
Apparently the flaming arrow headshot has just a normal headshot icon but I remember myself making a kill with it and seeing an icon with a flaming arrow on the head!
I'm certain that the teleport spell icon would be the rarest if it does only 4 damage. Only available for event maps + less efficient than a Fan o' War + needs luck to get the spell. Otherwise it's reflected Sandman ball
I got killed by a deflected bolt while I was playing Engi, didn’t even know it was possible to reflect. Maybe going into combat with the rescue ranger isn’t the best idea.
I remember that one time I jumped around a corner at the same time as a bow-sniper, and I air-blasted an arrow right back into him. He took an arrow in the knee and did a cartwheel into a confused scout.
Technically you can just go for a rescue ranger engi with low health and barely anybody around, just wait for him to shoot then reflect. Or reflect a random crit of it. (Kinda like you said)
Point against the lumbricus lid: it was one of the earliest hats added to the game. Back in like 2012 we saw that kill icon way more often since people were more likely to wear it with the busted pre-split equalizer.
Once when I was playing MvM a sentry Buster killed a machine that had the bomb and for the first time I read on the kill feed “sentry buster defended the bomb”
why does no one believe this guy, he literally commented 2 mins after the video was uploaded and the rescue ranger is known to be a garbage offensive weapon
Fun fact, this went unused in game, but if it was used, the deflected headshot flaming arrow would likely be the most uncommon kill icon
Speaking of unused, some unused weapons have kill icons. So despite not being in the game, they can still be seen by a player if they look hard enough in the files.
Same. 2,202 hours. NEVER seen it. Didn't even know it existed.
Yep i am a pyro main and never manage to get that icon
I've only ever seen it once when a pyro airblasted my stickies into me. Glad someone else recognises that kill icon.
I'm a demo main and sadly I can say that I have seen this icon...
As a pyro main, I've gotten it quite a few times. Funnily enough, I got a rescue ranger reflect kill on the medic during a Highlander scrim. I have it on youtube actually.

The lumbricus lid was a lot more common back in the day since it was one of the only hats the soldier could equip.
Damn… He actually did it! He made original tf2 content. A rare sight these days
I mean, course it would be. 5 years without a meaningful update.
The only situation I can think of where you can get the reflected rescue ranger kill is in TF2 x10 because of the pyro’s insane airblast, but even that feels like it wouldn’t happen much

To be fair, while the Black Rose is a cooler knife and any Spy player will see it as good-looking skin, there are two reasons why you don't see it often:
1- While it's true it was free to get if you got some achievement in another free to play game, said game (A.V.A.) was known to be fishy and have some shady stuff in it, so people just avoided it.
2- A.V.A. was also shut down a while ago, so getting the knife nowadays by yourself it's impossible. You can only get in in market, and because it's normally unobtainable now, it costs A LOT. It really is a collector's item at this point.
Ugh I used mine in crafting I should have sold it later aiuw2hwh

I genuinely use the crossing guard on all my loadouts (bar engie and spy obv) and I've never seen anyone else use it
I think the problem is that you can’t killstreak the Crossing Guard with its own kit, you have to get a Universal one. Pretty sure it’s the only Strange weapon without a Killstreak Kit that can actually kill.
@@llmkursk8254 You're probably right. I just use it because I thought it was funny when I bought it and have so many kills on my strange it wouldn't be worth to sell now.
My friend is a huge railroad fan so he uses one, and I don't think we've ever seen anyone else either. Kind of shame, it looks pretty nice

Even if a pyro reflects a sticky and the Demo is holding down M2 so it blows up on himself, it doesn't count as a reflect. The demo just takes his standard self-damage and the kill feed if it kills him is the same as if he kills himself through any kind of self-damage.

I have a friend that got it a few months ago, and he believes that you can only get it if:
1) You don't damage the demo in any way (fire, shotgun, other reflects, etc);
2) You need to reflect the sticky while it's in the air and the Demo has to explode it while it's still in the air;
3) He kills himself with that, so to begin with he has to be low health by prior self-damage or be away of combat for some time;
If any of the conditions are not met you just get a "finished off" kill instead.
I'm not sure if you get this icon with other people damaging the Demo but I believe that he has to be at that point that the damage he received is not credited to anyone or it's all self damage.
Again, I'm 100% not sure if those are the conditions exactly, but I know they are hard to come by and to pull off.
i'm curious about the kill icon of the reflected sticky bomb. does it ever appear since they don't switch team affiliation?
I believe it happens when Demo kills himself with said stickies shortly after deflect. I've seen it sometimes myself but don't know the conditions.
I’m pretty sure that it has to be in air.
Yes, it appears. It happens when the demo kills himself with a detonation up to 0.5 seconds after the sticky has been reflected.
If any of the conditions are not met you just get a "finished off" kill instead.
I'm not sure if you get this icon with other people damaging the Demo but I believe that he has to be at that point that the damage he received is not credited to anyone or it's all self damage.

3:25 whenever I play pyro I light friendly snipers arrows on fire for them so Ive seen this quite a few times

You do realise that that thing is like 150 keys, right? I'm aware that it came from an achievement back in the day, but it's no longer obtainable.
Weapon reskins in TF2 have always seemed like a strange case to me.
It's possible to get. If the reflected sticky is detonated by the demo before hitting a wall or ground and kills the demo it will appear.
