Restoring & Protecting our Teak the EASY WAY (aka NO VARNISH) (EP 58 Monday Never Sailing)

- We have 27 year old teak on our boat Paradox, and it was in need of some serious TLC. We didn't want to varnish it (too time consuming and too much maintenance), and we didn't want to use cetol - we really liked the look of raw teak, just not how much it soaked up water. Then we found a product called "Triton" made by DiTEC Marine Products. This one seemed like it would be a perfect solution - and so far it has been! And we have a discount code for all DiTEC products if you want to try any out.

The teak looks great. It's good to have you guys back online.
Thanks so much!
Love it! I think DiTEC offers really high quality products. 👍 I like that the cleaners can be rinsed in the water without hurting the fishes, saves a lot of time
The fact that their products are eco-friendly is definitely a huge point in their favor!
Fantastic results, it's a really great before and after. A little bit of TLC goes a long way! I know a protectant like this is much better for the teak than other sealers and definitely better than oil. Keeps it nice and blonde 😍
Yes I always use a protectant with teak. Don't use a sealant with your teak!!
It’s still holding up great even a few months after! Really pleased with the results!!
Great job‼️ LOVED the video ❤️
It was WONDERFUL meeting you at yoga in George Town‼️ 😍😍😍
The part with the grout turned out great. I love that Will is representing my hometown of St. Pete with his hat.
St Pete is one of our absolute favorite places in the world. Lived there for 2 years before we went cruising again and consider it our home port now (even though the boat is registered to Chicago)
Nice work! It turned out great.
Thanks!!
Good job. I agree once it's prep'ed applying a sealer is a good thing, stops the dirt getting in and reduces the need for cleaning. I use Semco to seal, but I'm sure there are others. I've never had a girl in a bikini appear once it was done though, must be doing it wrong!
Everything is better in the sunshine and in a bikini :) it’s the original smoke and mirrors and instantly make boat projects feel more fun and accomplished
Rinse and repeat. Looks great.
boatyard blues is real
That looks great! I will take your recommendation and try this on our teak this year.
Would love to hear how it goes! We have a discount code for the products in our video description. If you use “mondaynever” you’ll get 10% off and they might also be running a holiday sale right now too
@@Mondaynever thank you! Will use your code!
Great job on the teak! I agree, the first time I used this stuff I was blown away. Easy to use, great coverage and long lasting. Saved me the time of having to re-apply mid-season which I have had to do in the past with other brands.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing your experience. We are really looking forward to seeing how ours performs, but so far we just love the results
I just did my teak last year. The teak was in pretty bad shape too. Yours is so much better, mine had big deep gouges in a lot of it. I really didn't want to start over and everything seemed to be still serviceable, so I did teak cleaner as you folks did. Then I put on Waterlox sealer($64). Its cheaper than what you are using and lasts longer, but it darkens the wood a good bit and gives it a sheen kind of close to a yellow amber varnish. I put on two to three coats then put on Petit Flagship varnish. I chose that varnish because it had a high build quality that filled a lot of those gouges and it can just be coated over. A lot of the synthetic varnishes you have to completely take up after their typical three to five year service life. I will just recoat which in my mind is a little better. Hopefully between the sealer and varnish I will have a year or three between recoats. Good luck on the rest of the teak nightmare!!! I am a big fan of your work and have been following for years.
Thanks for sharing your process Allyn! I hope it works out for you!! We are new to the rabbit hole that is teak work and wood finishing, so love to hear what other people have tried and how it’s worked for them. Really hope to see you out at anchor near us one of these days! Cheers, Cat, Will and Maddie
Sorry Semco teak sealer leaves a way nicer finish clean the teak , brighten the teak then wipe it on once a year with a rag and your boat looks like new ,no more cleaning or brightening, been using it for 5 years and water beads off
Oh thats interesting! We’ll have to check that out if we need to look for a new solution in the future. Thanks for the tip!
I've heard cheap sealants aren't good for teak. Use a protectant and you'll save the color and feeling of the wood.
