@@cidevant002 And also a nod towards Miguel's previous admiration for De la Cruz, whose horse in one of the movies is named Dante. Miguel must have named him after that.
specifically because they're hairless, so they have to generate a LOT of body heat to compensate for it, making them a really good heated pillow for the sick, injured, and/or dying, which lead to their association with death in general
Yeah Miguel’s skinny, but compared to all those skeletons he’s a chub. 😆😆 Also some fun (sad) things to consider about Héctor’s death. - Ernesto killed him when he was only 21 and Coco was 2 or 3. 😢 - He was killed in 1921 and Coco was almost 100 when she would have died. Meaning Héctor’s been dead almost five times the years he was alive. You have to wonder if he even remembers what being alive felt like. 😭 Also puts into perspective how terrifying it must have been to first see this kid and immediately shoved into a phone booth by him. 😂
In hispanic culture "gordito/gordita" is also just an endearment. Couples call themselves that or parents to their kids. The fact Ernesto just say it to Miguel so naturally talks about how he is already connecting with him.

Yes! I was so happy when Disney announced this movie. This movie holds a special place in my heart. I love how it shows my Mexican culture to other people ❤️
Also I’ve seen the theory that whatever offerings someone receives from the living can somehow be converted into currency. Which would explain why a guy like Ernesto with a whole room full of offerings would be top-tier rich, but the poor folks who don’t even have their photos up are dressed in rags and living in poverty.
I hadn't had thought about the whole currency issue before but this theory does make sense. Also, in Chinese culture, there literally is money that you purposely buy to burn for the dead, and that's how I guess the Chinese spirits would get their money. Cultures are an interesting thing.
Oh and De La Cruz's horse is named Dante, too, because Miguel has watched De La Cruz's films countless times, so when he first started seeing and interacting with this street/stray dog, which he really liked and became friendly with, (later considered him like a pet/friend), he named that dog "Dante" -- just like his idol [De La Cruz] named his horse.
gordito is used as a term of endearment in spanish, you don't have to be fat for it to be used on you hahaha my mom calls me gordita sometimes, it's cute
I have an aunt that actually refers to modern technology as “cosas del diablo” (meaning “things of the devil”). So when Imelda called the computer a “devil box” I fell over backwards laughing!! 😁😆😆🤗
21:15 Imelda and the rest of the family refers to Hector as the man who wanted to be famous and abandoned the family. Miguel mistakes De la Cruz as his family as a result. As a consequence, the family, dead and living members, refuse to speak of him or even his name. The additoonal consequence is that Coco is the last one who remembers Hector and is dying.
You're right, the cultures do cross over. I'm from Guatemala and we also celebrate day of the dead. We celebrate the fists of November for kids who passed away and the second of November for adults.
The artist with the monkey was Frida Kahlo, she was a Mexican artist who, coincidentally, became famous after she died. She loved animals, and painted several of them in her paintings, mainly monkeys, that's why her Alebrije is a monkey, she has also painted Dante's dog breed.
Pixar started out as it's own company (Co founded by Steve Jobs, BTW) pioneering computer animation. Instead of developing their own computer animation, Disney did what they do best nowadays and bought them.
"I can't believe Coco made me cry!" Dude, I think anyone who watches this movie all the way through, pays attention, and doesn't at least get misty-eyed is just a monster. Also, Disney collaborated with Pixar a lot and pretty much bought them out.
Was I the only one who wasn't surprised Hector was Miguel's great great grandpa? I mean, the guitar had a candy skull design with one golden tooth, Hector has one golden tooth.
I have watch your harry potter reactions before! Your spanish is really good! I’m from mexico so here are a couple of facts: -Yes Dia de los Muertos is Nov 1 - 2. On Nov 1 we celebrate all children that had pass away and on Nov 2 we celebrate adults. - Like they said Xolos are a dog breed and the mascot of a soccer team in Mexico. - Chamaco means kid - El Santo (the weird dressed guy who was going to enter Ernesto’s party) was a very popular luchador from the 50’s to 80’s. He made a lot of movies consisting of horror/adventure theme such as El Santo vs the mummies, El Santo vs the vampire ladies, etc. During the golden age of mexican cinema. - Also at Ernesto’s party we see some cameos of other great actors and actresses from that golden age. - Ernesto is based on two popular singers/actors from the golden age: Jorge Negrete and Pedro Infante. In fact in one movie of Pedro Infante he was indeed playing a priest, just like in that scene Ernesto was “flying” - As a Mexican i can say that Coco truly was a love letter from Pixar to Mexico. The year it open here in Mexico it broke all record sales that it stayed on cinemas for almost 4 months. The next year they showed the movies in all cinemas around the country and the theaters were jam pack.
This is a beautiful movie! I remember expecting the twist of Ernesto not being Miguel's relative, but I was not expecting Ernesto to have murdered Hector, haha. If you don't mind, I have a suggestion for a good animated movie (if you haven't already seen it). It's Big Hero 6 by Pixar/Disney and I thought you might like it since you like Coco and How To Train Your Dragon.
I don’t want to be nitpicky, but big hero six is not by pixar. If I’m not mistaken, it’s a collaboration between Marvel and Disney. But I agree, he should react to it. Haven’t seen it in a while, but I remember it being really good
What really blew me away about this film is all the work that went into preparing for it. It's become an annual watch for me at Halloween/Dia de Muertos/Samhain, as well...
Somebody already said somehing similar to this but Dante was able to go through because he’s a xoloitzcuintle, in Mexican culture those dogs are said to be able to guide souls to the Mictlán, the “other side” basically. They can go back and forth between both worlds. He’s a pretty important part of the movie actually
I watched this movie for the 1st time while I was deployed on a submarine. I had just received a Red Cross message that my grandma had just passed away. My grandma was afflicted with dimentia, the last time that I spoke to her she didn’t know who I was even though she raised me from birth. This movies ending has a very special place in my heart, definitely bittersweet of me crying in crews mess listening to the movie playing but not being able to stand watching it at that moment due to the memories and emotions it evoked.

@@paperpyres1367 YEEEES 😭😭😂😂 I feel like we’re five people on earth that have seen this movie 🤔 there’s hardly anything on RUclips about it.. that would be really cool if he would do a video about it !!🤞🏽
The first time I saw this movie was back in high school-I had just spent 12 days in China, first time traveling on my own without my family. I watched this on the 15 hour flight home and I tried so hard not to SOB during that last scene.
I'm surprised Onward affected you that much. Unfortunately for me, I found it very forgettable and slow. Not one of my favorite Pixar films. Voice acting was good though, as well as the animation.
There are other RUclipsrs who have reviewed “Coco” and their reactions come off as very fake. However, yours is much more sincere and I appreciate that. Much like yourself, I, too, did not know anything about Día de Muertos until I saw “Coco.” I had always dismissed it as “Mexican Halloween,” and it is not! Even in the end credits the film encourages viewers to visit your local library to know more on this beautiful annual event. And now, I look so much more forward to Día de Muertos than mindless Halloween. As for the film itself, I have become a HUGE fanboy of it. It is the first time since childhood a film has impacted me with its profundity. It is beautiful, flawless, endearing, sentimental, and yes - dare I say - sacred to me. It is one of Pixar’s more underrated films, a status it does not deserve since it is much more superior than “Cars,” “Incredibles 2,” and other misses Pixar has released. “Coco” is cinema at its most excellent.
"anyone else think Dante isn't really a dogs name?" I was ready to throw hands 😂 I have a dog named Dante 😝 (he's 13 so he was obviously named before Coco came out)
Peppita is what we call an "alebrije" here in Mexico, it´s not an especific animal, alebrijes are known for being kind of like a representation of dreams, they are also an spiritual guide. :)
Toy Story franchise Aladdin Lion King Mulan Tarzan Moana Up Wall-e Little Mermaid Spiderman:Into the Spider-Verse and more... You have a long way to go lol but the journey is beautiful! 💕
17:29 Sir that´s El Santo, El Enmascarado de Plata, sir. He went full superhero, he had comicbooks, he had movies. There´s even animated versions of some of those movies about him that I watched in my chilhood.
El Santo is not just a Luchador he is _the_ Luchador. For Lucha Libre he was as big if not bigger than Hulk Hogan, he was in 52 movies and was one of the wrestlers that popularized pro wrestling in Mexico. He only ever removed his mask once, a week before his death, and has several statues of him, the silver mask being a staple of his iconography
I love this movie. Miguel's great grandma reminds me of my grandma on my dad's side. She passed away when I was 10 or 11. I wasn't there to say goodbye and I felt really bad. This is still a very beautiful movie 💗
If you want more movies that'll make you cry, I'd recommend Up, Inside Out, and the Toy Story quartet :) Pixar really knows how to tug at your heart strings!
Pepita is an Alebrije, they are imaginary creatures with different animal parts mixed together. They’re often painted in vibrant colors and they’re a very common Mexican handcrafts made out of paper (like a piñata) or wood
Regarding the Pixar/Disney thing: Basically Disney (the company) owns Pixar (the studio). The team at Pixar creates the movies, and Disney finances and produces it. These days, Disney has two studios to handle their animated movies: Pixar (which Disney acquired relatively recently and has made things like toy story, coco, incredibles, etc.), and Disney animations (which has been at the studio since its start and has made things like the lion king, frozen, Bambi, etc.) Also, I really recommend kung fu panda
Oh man! This movie is so good. I am not Mexican, but I saw it in theaters with one of my Mexican friends. 3 of us sat there enjoying, smiling and then just bawling during the song Remember Me. Ugh, so heartfelt and amazing!
I cry every time to this when they sing together at the end mama coco comes in "remember me" and to the Iron Giant when he says "you stay I go" at the end
Imelda never said Hector's name to Miguel. At the time she never wanted to associate with him so of course she would never speak his name. And she probably just assumed that Miguel was talking about Hector the entire time, since he also never said the name Ernesto to her.
I loved this movie, so beautiful and emotional. And Brave yesss!!!! Such a good movie, and not many people have posted reactions to it. One of my favorite Disney princess movies.
Pepita is an 'alebrije' which are mythological creatures in Mexican culture. they are the combination of various animals with colorful patterns that act like 'guides' for the dead. Dante is a xoloitzcuintle, a mexican dog that traditionally also symbolize a guide for the dead. Both albrijes and xolos are considered the 'bridges between the living and dead' so thats why Dante and Pepita have a different form in the land of the livin and can go from one world to another.
Pixar started out as it's own company, but then Disney purchased them in 2006, and now Pixar works as a satellite company for Disney. It should be noted that, while they do a lot of collaborations together, Pixar and Disney Animation Studios are not the same company.
16:26 I don’t speak Spanish so as when I watched the movie I googled everything I couldn’t figure out on my own lol I LOVED this joke cause I assume he called him chubby because he’s not just a skeleton
on día de muertos our cemetery does look like that and in my town we actually sleep in the graveyard on the 1st to wake up the 2nd, i remember my granddad's tomb was right next to a tree with a snake and it used to scare me lots until we drove it away. outside of the cemetery, we have food stands because we spend most of the day there and they're in case we want to have lunch, i'd clean my family's stones and do a little touch-up on them and weed around, lit candles, and then go explore the other graves. mariachis and other musicians are also inside so there is music the whole day.
I'm not gonna lie, when I first watched Coco and there was that part where Ernesto grabbed onto Emelda, I though for sure that Hector was going to come charging out on stage screaming "GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY WOMAN !!!" or something like that, then they all attack each other on stage and they accidentally make it look good and when it is over Hector and Emelda have a romantic moment in the back to where they kind of come back together.
Pepita, Frida´s monkey and the other animals are called "Alebrijes". They are mixed animals that are considered guardians in the underworld. They are Mexican crafts and they are very colorful and creative.
Pepita and Dante in our world are animals related to an ancient believing since the Aztecs that cats and dogs are spiritual guides when we part from this world. In the dead’s world they are “Alebrijes” sort of fantastic monsters with a lot of color and a lot of animal parts. The “alebrijes” are a huge part of mexican culture and they were created by the mexican artist “Pedro Linares Lopez” they usually are made of paper
Coco started off as such a fun movie, but it all turned into waterworks in the end 😭

The artist with the monkey was Frida Kahlo, she was a Mexican artist who, coincidentally, became famous after she died. She loved animals, and painted several of them in her paintings, mainly monkeys, that's why her Alebrije is a monkey, she has also painted Dante's dog breed.
I love Coco!! That final scene where you see Miguel surrounded by both his living and deceased family members is my favorite scene!
Pixar started out as it's own company (Co founded by Steve Jobs, BTW) pioneering computer animation.
Instead of developing their own computer animation, Disney did what they do best nowadays and bought them.
If you wanna watch a movie with the same quality of httyd, then I'd recommend the Kung Fu Panda trilogy.
OH MY GOSH KFP IS THE BEST TRILOGY YES. SO GOOD.
Lol
It's also considered the best Western made Chinese film lol
It makes me cry every time
"I can't believe Coco made me cry!"
Dude, I think anyone who watches this movie all the way through, pays attention, and doesn't at least get misty-eyed is just a monster.
Also, Disney collaborated with Pixar a lot and pretty much bought them out.
Was I the only one who wasn't surprised Hector was Miguel's great great grandpa? I mean, the guitar had a candy skull design with one golden tooth, Hector has one golden tooth.
Not me learning Dante was named after de la Cruz’s horse 💀
"Its scrumptious!!" ❤ This review was so cute, I cried when I watched Coco as well 😂
You can't convince me that every cat doesn't feel like they're a flying dragon tiger in their own minds.
I have watch your harry potter reactions before! Your spanish is really good! I’m from mexico so here are a couple of facts:
-Yes Dia de los Muertos is Nov 1 - 2. On Nov 1 we celebrate all children that had pass away and on Nov 2 we celebrate adults.
- Like they said Xolos are a dog breed and the mascot of a soccer team in Mexico.
- Chamaco means kid
- El Santo (the weird dressed guy who was going to enter Ernesto’s party) was a very popular luchador from the 50’s to 80’s.
In fact in one movie of Pedro Infante he was indeed playing a priest, just like in that scene Ernesto was “flying”
- As a Mexican i can say that Coco truly was a love letter from Pixar to Mexico. The year it open here in Mexico it broke all record sales that it stayed on cinemas for almost 4 months. The next year they showed the movies in all cinemas around the country and the theaters were jam pack.
It’s always when Miguel sings to Coco that makes the tears swell up. I don’t often tear up watching Pixar movies but…man. Everytime.
Haven’t seen it in a while, but I remember it being really good
@@august1837 ah, thank you! I had a feeling it wasn't pixar 😂(you're not being nitpicky, btw)
What really blew me away about this film is all the work that went into preparing for it. It's become an annual watch for me at Halloween/Dia de Muertos/Samhain, as well...
the "never forget that your family loves you" hit me EVERY SINGLE TIME I ugly cry
“I like to be happy in life” 😂 I laughed so hard
YES MAN, YES, PLEASE REACT TO MORE DISNEY and DREAMWORKS MOVIES.
Movie recommendation (more like « grownups » movies)
- Sarah’s key (favorite movie)
-hidden figures
- hacksaw ridge
- the help
And for those two animated movies are soooo underrated : Anastasia and Treasure Planet 💕💕
hidden figures and the help though ❤️❤️ Also Anastasia. I second these.
@@Randomner2562 I love movies that talk about history ☺️💜
Oh frick, Sarah's Key is just asking for tears lmao
@@paperpyres1367 YEEEES 😭😭😂😂 I feel like we’re five people on earth that have seen this movie 🤔 there’s hardly anything on RUclips about it.. that would be really cool if he would do a video about it !!🤞🏽
You bet COCO MAKES YOU CRY!
The first time I saw this movie was back in high school-I had just spent 12 days in China, first time traveling on my own without my family. I watched this on the 15 hour flight home and I tried so hard not to SOB during that last scene.
Up, Tangled, and Ratatouille never fail to entertain. Highly recommend! The newest Pixar I’ve loved (and cried with) is Onward
I'm surprised Onward affected you that much.
Unfortunately for me, I found it very forgettable and slow. Not one of my favorite Pixar films.
Voice acting was good though, as well as the animation.
@@aobatoshiki8371 I am an only child, so maybe that explains why I couldn't relate to it as good.
"anyone else think Dante isn't really a dogs name?" I was ready to throw hands 😂
I have a dog named Dante 😝 (he's 13 so he was obviously named before Coco came out)
Peppita is what we call an "alebrije" here in Mexico, it´s not an especific animal, alebrijes are known for being kind of like a representation of dreams, they are also an spiritual guide. :)
As one of the few people that didn't cry at the beginning of "Up" I did cry at the end of this
Toy Story franchise
Aladdin
Lion King
Mulan
Tarzan
Moana
Up
Wall-e
Little Mermaid
Spiderman:Into the Spider-Verse and more...
You have a long way to go lol but the journey is beautiful! 💕
Wall-e and Into the Spiderverse! Yesss!
yes i agree also big hero 6
Spiderverse & moana truuuust
17:29 Sir that´s El Santo, El Enmascarado de Plata, sir. He went full superhero, he had comicbooks, he had movies. There´s even animated versions of some of those movies about him that I watched in my chilhood.
Loved your reaction so much, this movie always pulls on my heart strings ( "strings" hehe)
"Chamaco" is slang for "kid."
Also, what do you mean if "El Santo" is a luchador? He is THE Luchador. The amount of disrespect!
Coco is literally one of the most cinematic movies I've seen! And it's animated!!! Crazy!
“It wasn’t a question. You were forced” -My grandparents every time they give me a choice and I dont answer how they want
Trust me, it doesn't get better😭
"Is he a luchador?" El Santo is THE luchador
If you want more movies that'll make you cry, I'd recommend Up, Inside Out, and the Toy Story quartet :) Pixar really knows how to tug at your heart strings!
16:02 you had the same facial expression as Hector ahaha.
This was a great reaction! Coco is such a beautiful movie.
Pepita is an Alebrije, they are imaginary creatures with different animal parts mixed together. They’re often painted in vibrant colors and they’re a very common Mexican handcrafts made out of paper (like a piñata) or wood
“So this is how Nike started” lmao I’m dead😂😂
Regarding the Pixar/Disney thing:
Basically Disney (the company) owns Pixar (the studio). The team at Pixar creates the movies, and Disney finances and produces it. These days, Disney has two studios to handle their animated movies: Pixar (which Disney acquired relatively recently and has made things like toy story, coco, incredibles, etc.), and Disney animations (which has been at the studio since its start and has made things like the lion king, frozen, Bambi, etc.)
Also, I really recommend kung fu panda
Oh man! This movie is so good. I am not Mexican, but I saw it in theaters with one of my Mexican friends. 3 of us sat there enjoying, smiling and then just bawling during the song Remember Me. Ugh, so heartfelt and amazing!
I cry every time to this when they sing together at the end mama coco comes in "remember me"
and to the Iron Giant when he says "you stay I go" at the end
Imelda never said Hector's name to Miguel. At the time she never wanted to associate with him so of course she would never speak his name. And she probably just assumed that Miguel was talking about Hector the entire time, since he also never said the name Ernesto to her.
The ending where Miguel sings to his Great Grandma it was so heart warming🥰😊
Yes Coco finally!
And the original planet of the apes
@@jonmercano1138 ohhh hell yeah! Definitely!
I loved this movie, so beautiful and emotional.
And Brave yesss!!!! Such a good movie, and not many people have posted reactions to it. One of my favorite Disney princess movies.
if you going to watch it every november, may as well try seeing in spanish once
I never even thought that it would be up in spanish for some reason, im 100% doing this lol
Pepita is also based on Alebrijes, Mexican art sculptures of normal animals or fantastical creatures. They are so cool 😎
I expected Miguel to sing to Coco, but when Coco sings with him that hits me, gets me to tear up.
Please please watch the movie Spirit: The stallion of the cimarron🤩🐴
such a great animated movie
Yez ! Beautiful movie !Spirit !
OMG, I loved the reference to Danny Phantom xD
16:26 I don’t speak Spanish so as when I watched the movie I googled everything I couldn’t figure out on my own lol
I LOVED this joke cause I assume he called him chubby because he’s not just a skeleton
10:00 It is quite literally, a hilarious Jawdrop. 🤣🤣🤣
I was waiting for the tears, nice reaction!
El santo is one of the most famous luchadors in all of Mexico he was in movies had comics written about him he was kinda like the Mexican Superman
I lost my great grandma the same year this movie came out 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 One of my all time fav movies
Just found your channel with this movie. I admire your choice. And you shedding a tear at Coco makes me like you a bit more. Good man! I'll be back!
on día de muertos our cemetery does look like that and in my town we actually sleep in the graveyard on the 1st to wake up the 2nd, i remember my granddad's tomb was right next to a tree with a snake and it used to scare me lots until we drove it away. outside of the cemetery, we have food stands because we spend most of the day there and they're in case we want to have lunch, i'd clean my family's stones and do a little touch-up on them and weed around, lit candles, and then go explore the other graves. mariachis and other musicians are also inside so there is music the whole day.
Pixar is owned by Disney, and this movie always makes me cry 😭
Watch brother bear and hunchback of notre dame. They’re definitely super underrated
