In my part of the country, a laker that size is a once in a lifetime fish, I know people that ice fish every single weekend and troll for them all summer for 40 years and never catch a monster like that.

i was born and raised in florida and ive never seen snow except one time in tennessee and i hardly remember it... its so weird thinking about fishing from a small little hole like that lol... and then pulling out a huge fish like that... man must be really cool

What a wonderful fish you caught. I have never seen a lake trout that large. Except along the viewing port on the Columbia River where the public is allowed to see fish swimming past the hydroelectric dam on the step latter created for fish to bypass the dam. I will have to try your chowder recipe, sounds like they loved it.

When I first saw the lake in the video, I realized it was Dillon Reservoir. I grew up just north of Denver and Fished it many times until 1988 when I moved to Virginia. I've caught several species of trout upto about 10 lbs. there.

What a fish. Next time you make a trip back to CO let me know. We can do some more ice fishing in the wintertime or mushroom foraging in the spring and fly fish year round.

I have the same sonar set up for ice fishing and it's way easier when with multiple people to use the actual graph mode. Way easier for everyone to see there baits

Dealing with everything freezing, that left over half onion is done for. Chicken wings! Back in the early 70's my dad would get chicken wings because back then they were the least desired chicken part, decades before they were popular, like 29 cents a pound popular. And at 12 or so I would help him BBQ them on one of the original Kamato clay pot Japanese smokers. Back when they had clay lids. Known as Green Egg these days. One of the scariest flights I had was flying into Denver with gale force sideways winds, landing sideways. That airport is in nowhere and can be crazy scary.
