This got me in the feels. I was not a Marine but I was a Navy Corpsman. I recently retired from the Navy and spent half of my time with the USMC. From the hills of Pendleton (1st MARDIV) to the swamps of Camp Lejeune (2nd MARDIV), Okinawa, and the Middle East; I hated the bs of being imbedded with the Corps. However, I cherish everything I learned and gained from being attached to the Corps. Mostly all the friends and people you get to meet. Viewing this just brought back fond memories of our death runs we used to have. I can say that I am forever grateful that I had the opportunity to work with America’s fiercest fighting force. Part of me wishes I can partake on those long runs but in reality I am okay with just watching videos lol. I had my share of them. No one does it better than the Corps (Cadence). On this day, want to say Happy bday Marines.

When I was going through Air Force Tech school we had Marines in our class which turns out to be the only Marines on the entire base. One day their gunnery segerant got the bright idea to let the Airmen run PT with the Marines. So there we go about 20 of us yelling, running, scremaing these crazy marine cadences! All around this air force base and we headed toward the parade field. Where another squadron is set up doing PT on the field in a set formation spread out. With us running tall and looking good, that gunnery sergeant ran us right through their formation and we got the scolding eyes of every airman and NCO on that field! I'd have to say that one was one of my best memories of my entire military career. One thing I learned that day MARINES don't give a $#IT! From an Airman, I'm damn proud we got Marines.

I was a young Marine assigned to the Marine Barracks on US Army post Ft. Eustis, VA in summer 1989. Our Gunny, a Viet Nam vet and a crusty old school Marine if there ever was one, used to have our 13 man squad run PT 3 days a week in "boot and utilities" at 4:30am thru the Army housing area screaming USMC cadences as loud as we could. The Army generally didn't stir until 5:30-6am and always ran in shorts and tennis shoes. He definitely didn't give 2 sh!t$ about anything the Army thought, and we loved it.

I was one of the marines in that group, towards the back. We practiced all day for that and it was great experience! I will say was very disappointed with David Letterman not coming out to take photos with us or sign autographs, we where just tossed box of David Letterman shirts, tossed that shit in the garbage. He asked us to come on. The best part was working with a great group of motivators! SEMPER FI

Not only do I still carry respect. I also value everything in my life then till now for lessons I learned to carry with me. Hope your health is well as it was then I can't tell you how much I owe you and thank you every day for all that you did and continue to do. Semper Fi
