Man, i gotta say WOW. I remember your channel from years ago when i was in high school trying to find horror movie recommendations and forgot your handle name, pulled up this one today and didnt catch on that it was YOU until I went to browse your channel. I had thought it was funny that you mentioned Bad Ronald in this one because I remember that recommendation from your old videos and I LOVED IT, but i didn't catch on that it was you haha. I also only found Suspiria back then because of you. So THANK YOU for Bad Ronald and Suspiria, you look awesome, man. What a change.

Phantom of the Paradise is my annual Halloween number one movie. Brian de Palma made this movie right before he made Carrie, It has the same kind of color palette but it is a rock musical second only to the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Paul Williams stars in it and he made all the music which makes it so incredibly memorable. Phoenix terrifies me when she sings. I don't know why, it's so moving and touching, but the timber of her voice just hits me sideways.

  • @elizabethshaw734

Gore is not horror. Buckets of Blood and missing limbs or not scary but what might be around the corner or down the street and you don't know is scary. I saw the first Candyman. Like the original Night of the Living Dead you don't see blood you barely see a zombie but it's scary as hell because it winds up your mind and the theater of the mind is where horror takes place!

My heart stopped beating when I looked in the background of this video and saw that prayer clock especially in a pile of horror memorabilia. We used to have two in our house which have now been removed due to really creepy events involving it going off at night with new batteries and no alarms set. I almost passed out when I saw it since I haven’t seen one since we threw both away.

While looking at Top 10, Top 50 and even Top 100 lists of Best horror films, I never see 'Jacob's ladder' on any of these. I remember showing that to my brother when he was like 6 years old and my mom got so mad at me because he wouldn't go to bed unless the lights were on for like 3 months. It's a given that foreign horror films will always be criminally under-rated. A few of my favorites are: The Cremator (Czechoslovakia - 1969); Kwaidan (Japan - 1964); Onibaba (Japan - 1964); Krysař (Germany - 1986); Rapture (Spain - 1980); Kuroneko (Japan - 1968) and The Phone Box (Spain - 1972). Here's a couple of older British horror films that seem to be nearly forgotten; The Innocents from 1961; The Haunting from 1963 and Dead of Night from1945.

I think the main problem with Screamers was the romance. It comes to late in the movie and felt forced. But Dan O' Bannon is one of my favorite screenwriters, and it's all the snappy dialogue.
But Yeah Screamers is under rated because most of the film was strong but as it drew closer to the end it started to feel weaker.

You should get in touch with a friend of mine, Michael Tuite. He is making a documentary on why Halloween 3 is so much better than everyone thinks and he also says it's his favorite Halloween movie. As for May, I have my copy of the DVD signed by Angela Bettis, NOT Bates, and Lucky McKee.

Your enthusiasm is infectious! And MAJOR props for mentioning Bad Ronald. I remember that as kid (I'm old lol and remember this from TV back in the 70s). Could be remade so great today by a skilled writer. I am not as schooled on horror as many others, but I would include Death Watch (Kind of horror). Love that movie. Never hear it talked about. Going to look into some of these you mentioned. Thanks!

I think you're correct, Susperia is the best.
Here is something about that movie you probably never herd of. I saw this when it first came out. The trailer for the movie had a scene that was great, but it wasn't in the movie. I'm sure it was made just for the preview because it really had nothing to do with the movie. You would see some woman I believe, with long hair, from the back, sitting in her room brushing her hair, then she would turn around and she had a skull as a head. Skulls were really big, and cool in the 70's and early 80's.
Now I am going to watch Blood Rage, I hope it is at least as good as you say it is.

I'm so glad you mentioned my favorite movie of all time; May! You did call Angela Bettis "Angela Bates" twice, but I forgive you!
The movies I always recommend are:
    May
    Love Object
    The Loved Ones
    Murder Party
    April Fool's Day
    Behind the Mask
    Parents
    Red State
You had a great list! I was surprised to see a few that I didn't recognize. Kudos!

It's funny how the term "underrated" depends entirely on where your exposure to a topic comes from.Suspiria is an incredible film and to me and the circle of horror/film fans I know of it is given credit as such. If I were to create my own subjective list of underrated horror I suppose I'd go with Possesion(1981), Repulsion(1965), The Devils(1971), Bug(2007), Martyrs(2007), Nekromantik(1987), Excision(2012), Basketcase(1982) and Under the Skin(2014).Now even my list is totally speculative and debatable. Martyrs and Under the skin are highly regarded by some.the only 2 films I picked that I feel can truly be called underrated being Possesion and The Devils but Possesion has gained some recognition in the last 2 years since Andrez Zulawski died and The Devils isn't definitive horror.Really the more appropriate title for lists like these would be "Movies I think deserve more recognition from a mainstream audience".Why did I bother writing this?

I agree totally with Society. It amazes me how few people have seen it. Screamers too. I bought Ravenous right after watching it. May is one of my favorites. I was the only person I knew for a decade who admitted to liking Street Trash! Motel Hell left me cold in the old days, but I get a kick out of it now. NEAR DARK is so much cooler than Lost Boys even though it has that cop out ending. Lance Henriksen is terrific in it. I love Larry Cohen movies, especially those with Michael Moriarty!

I watched Candyman and Halloween 3 recently for the first time and honestly I was unimpressed. Candyman had great atmosphere, but the editing was awkward and the villain was underwhelming and lame. He was just an ordinary black dude in a big jacket with a giant hook for a hand and he just wasn't threatening. Halloween 3 was awful. It had some so bad its good moments, but the logic, script and overall quality of the film was bottom of the barrel. There were elements of the story that I did like, but all the characters were forgettable and wooden.
I saw May a few years back and I remember really liking it. It was twisted and well acted. The story and characters were interesting and creepy af. Good recommendation.
Btw there is a bluray release of Suspiria. There is a Korean release of it that region free that you can get for 20-30 dollars

To underrated ones that you forgot or missed. Our galaxy of Terror and Terror in the aisles. The first one to me is a great scary movie in space even though it's low budget it's very underrated. And Terror in the aisles is more of a documentary but it gets you hooked and shows you why we love this stuff. Again very underrated almost never talked about.
