Yeah, have to say that one was far better than the original. Wasn’t a huge fan of the later remakes like Dawn of the Dead though, with the running zombies.
@@RealNathanExplosion Not all all. Two completely different movies for different eras. Both great films in their own right. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of the prequel, which was ruined by the studio execs getting too involved.
Carrie 2013 Halloween 2007 and Black Xmas 2006 and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 are my favorites. I think TCM has its moments where we really root for Erin.
To those who are mentioning The Thing, personally I don't really think of it as a remake. The Thing and the 50's film The Thing From Another World are both based on a book titled Who Goes There?. So I don't think of The Thing as a remake of the 50's film, but rather another, more faithful, adaptation of the book.
I'm actually a huge fan of The House of Wax remake! It's a ton of fun. Basically a pseudo remake of Tourist Trap. Not a perfect movie or anything but a very fun slasher.
House of Wax is one of my absolute favorites! I love the story and backstory, the killers, the music, and the kills. I also really like the Prom Night remake! I think it's really underrated.
One of the worst remakes was: Psycho..filmed in the 90's. The script was word 4 word copied from the orig. Hitchcock 1960 version. No reason 2 remake it, really...
Hey Shaun! Nice review! DAWN OF THE DEAD remake was the first ever zombie i liked so much, if it wasn't for it i'm not into zombie movies and i would have not found your channel 8+ years ago. But anyway, those list of your "bad" remakes were actually not that bad at all, i enjoy watching the house of wax, the martyrs, i spit on your grave 1&2, hills have eyes, but one thing i don't like much that you enjoyed most was the remake of the grunge, i watched it but i love the japanese original one more cuz it's more creepier. Shaun i suggest try the movie SHUTTER (thai) the original one.
Great list, Shawn! Really enjoyed the Grudge, Night Of The living Dead, i Spit On YOur Grave and Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes. I need to check out the other ones you've mentioned. You forgot John Carpenter's The Thing, btw lol. The Psycho remake is one of the worst ones as well.
The Halloween remake is absolutely awful in my opinion. The first half is ok, but the second half is just painfully awful. Halloween 2 (2009)was bad but I thought was a little bit better than the remake. The Thing(1982) is a great remake though.
I think when it came out, people didn't know it was a remake because it's vastly different then the original. Plus, I think who have seen the remake haven't seen the original.
Interesting, i thought the first half was the awful part, revealing Myers backstory felt like a mistake the second half was just a more brutal version of the original
I agree A Nightmare On Elm Street was the worst of the bunch, it was so lazy effortless but thats not even the half of what is wrong that pile of shit but you can't make a worst remake list with out throwing in the 1998 remake of Psycho.
gr8 vid as per usual ,Shawn ........ The Ring ,Dawn Of The Dead , Maniac ,Hills Have Eyes ,The Fly remakes are all frikkin fantastic , all imo are even better than the originals , The Thing ( John Carpenter ) ,is ,also another fantastic remake that is waaaaaaaaay better than the original
Awesome list, dude! Totally surprised me when you threw the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street up there, but your stern dislike for it made me laugh. =D
I can't stand film companies cutting down films to pg them up and "make more money" bs talk. We all want the real cuts and would pay for them. I liked the Thing and Blob from the 80's.
My best - The Children (UK) though not a literal remake, this movie is the definition of what a remake should be, an expansion of the original ideas. Psycho - Van Sant's color, shot-4-shot version is PERFECTLY cast and I had a huge crush on Anne Heche at the time.
my favorite remakes are : when a stranger calls, night of the living dead, evil dead, the omen,Texas chainsaw massacre, the fly, hills have eyes, last house on the left, psycho, Friday the 13th,Halloween,the blob. the worst remakes : prom night, the fog,day of the day, fright night 2 remake,Halloween 2 remake (was okay).
Keep doing these coolduder, I and I believe a lot of people miss these horror lists!!!!! Please....and I would also like you to start doing a top 20 or 25 best genre/horror films or just top 25 films of the year....it would be a video with tons of views
I totally am going to start doing these list video way more again. Ill be doing a favorites 2016 movie video sometime at the end of the month for sure.
Really good picks, TCM and The Hills Have Eyes are two of my favorites I Like the Amityville Horror a lot too. I also didn't like the Friday the 13th remake, I could barely get through it. I agreed with pretty much all of your picks.
Shawn, I agree with your choices 100% except for just one title... the black Christmas remake. I will admit it's really Not a GOOD movie, but it is just so colorful, bizzare, mean spirited, and funny that I kind of love it. I used to watch it every Christmas! And it actually has a pretty cool cast with Mary Elizabeth winstead, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Andrea Martin. I would encourage you to check it out again this Christmas!
Worst: a nightmare on elm street, Halloween II, day of the dead, IT, my bloody valentine, Black Christmas Best: The Fly, The thing, cat people, dawn of the dead, Nosferatu, the hills have eyes, night of the living dead, Friday the 13th That exist: Psycho, Carrie, The Grudge,
I agree with Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street being among the worst. The opening of the "Friday" remake had a lot of potential, but it just fell a part and became a mess as the story progressed... The "Nightmare" remake also had potential and I like that they made it seem like Freddy was innocent and was unjustly killed, but then they just followed the pattern from the original film... It would be nice to see some of these remakes change things up a bit.
Hey nice Video!! - The official sequel I Spit on Your Grave: Deja Vu, directed by original director Meir Zarchi, was finished in October 2015 with Camille Keaton reprising her role as Jennifer Hills.
i definitely agree about the Remake of Friday the 13th. first 20 or so minutes had the FRIDAY feel then they just put some kids and told to be hip and all that. that screwed the film up.
i remember in a docu. about night of the living dead 2 of the guys who worked on it looked like they were on the verge of crying when talking about the no copyright thing.
the fly, evil dead, rob zombie's Halloween and texas xhainsaw massacre were the best remakes, I actually liked the Friday the 13th remake, I just think the acting was bad but the story was good, the omen remake was good as well.the worst- the fog, fright night, poltergeist, nightmare on elm street, and pretty much every horror remake that Hollywood does over from the 80's
I agree with you on TCM and the Dawn of the Dead remake. I thought they were well done. I would add the 80's version of the Blob to the Best list as well.
Another bad remake is the Poltergeist remake. It felt rushed, dumbed down and cliched. Speaking of Prom Night, at the end there .. If you haven't check out Prom Night 3. There's a hilarious scene where the kid is on the phone with his dad, and the dad's voice is just ... you have to see it.
What do you think of Thirteen Ghosts? As a kid, it was one of the first horror movies I obsessed over and seen it about 13 times when I was about 13. Not kidding. It's not generally considered very good but at a young age, it really freaked me out with the gore and the whole mythology surrounding the ghosts and how they died. I think it still holds up as a decent horror movie though I never seen the original William Castle film which is completely different and probably some good cheezy fun. Plus, it had Matthew Lillard in it who was my favorite actor then, being in Scream, Ghost Ship and the Scooby Doo movies. You don't really see him that often nowadays, unfortunately or at least I haven't see him
I don't know if it is considered a remake but I liked The town that dreaded sundown, also liked When a stranger calls. Some favorites are Let me in, Carrie and Dark Shadows. Loved the Halloween remake and the sequel after it. Amityville Horror was decent to me, so was Black Christmas.
I agree with most of the ones that you said were great remakes besides Maniac and Carrie. I thought that Maniac wasn't very good. Most of the stuff on the bad side I can agree with besides Friday The 13th. I enjoyed that. I haven't seen some of them but have heard bad things. I would add Carrie and The Poltergeist remakes to the bad side. Some that you forgot are Let Me In and Piranha 3D.
I agree with most of the ones you said that I have watched however I disagree with the house of wax being at the worst part of your review I really enjoyed that one just my opinion!
Have you seen the remakes of Mother's Day, My Bloody Valentine, The Town That Dreaded Sundown, and The Blob? I enjoyed all those just as much as the originals. I just wished that the Mother's Day remake was more to the original.
I didn't like any of the cabin fevers much after the first one they went down, I remember buying part 2 being so excited and it let me down, I'm just glad they never tried to remake one of my all time favorites pumpkin head 2, don't butcher a classic like that.
i like the original 1979 WHEN A STRANGER CALLS and it's 1999 sequel. the remake was just so so. i wanna like it but there was too many scenes where the girl is just walking around and i skip through the majority of the film because of that.
Agreed, Nightmare on elm street re-make was god awful. Thomas Dekker was the only good thing in it...... didn't really know much about Rooney Mara at the time watching it.
I agree with House of Wax. But I think the remake was more horrifying. Another plus of the original is that it has an early role of Charles Bronson! Another one I though of is The Hitcher. Each version is good for different reasons. It's nice when a sequel doesn't completely copy the original, and at the same time realizes it can't go too far with changes. I'd put them both in the "best" category because they find that sweet spot.
The fright night remake was actually cool. The only failing in the movie was colin farrell. I don't understand how he keeps getting such good roles? ;) I don't really want to know to be honest. But I've never liked him in any role out of the handful I've seen. Except to an a extent in Minority report. But even in that, he was the weakest link in that movie too.
I li e the remake of The Ring, so much better than Ringu, also The Fly was soooooooo good!! What about the remake of Last House On the Left? I saw that in theaters because I love the original so much, but it just was not good.
I agree with both of your lists except that I LOVE Rob Zombie's Halloween, Im a big fan of his and that film and the sequel as well. I do like House of Wax, on it's own it's decent. I hated The Omen remake but re-watched it last week and thought it was decent as well, alot of good actors in it.
Scream the TV series is considered a remake and I really Love that remake in a television version it's really enjoyable and I know Robert englund can't be replaced but the nightmare on elm Street was great it wasn't perfect nor the best but I did love the new elements it showed Krueger's back story and I loved it
Most remakes are almost always a flop. It's a true roll of the dice that a remake takes you by surprise. I totally agree w/Dawn of the dead. It took me by surprise. I like surprises/twists in horror films. 30+ yr horror fan so I'm very picky.
Nosferatu (1922) Dracula (1931) Frankenstein (1910) Frankenstein (1931) Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde (1920) Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde (1931) I just proved 1931 was an awsome year for horror remakes. Also the Vincent Price classic House Of Wax is technically a remake of the 1933 classic Mystery Of The Wax Museum. Roger Corman's House Of Usher was a remake of the 1928 silent film. The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (1939) is a remake of the 1923 Lon Chaney classic. Then in 1941 Spencer Tracy starred in Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde a remake of a remake of a remake of a remake of a 1912 silent film. Nobody in this world pays attention to the classics which are the real best horror film remakes. And in 1957 Hammer brought back the genre which wasn't a thing in the 50's. They introduced tits and blood and violence and sex. If not for Hammer we would not have the classic slashers we have today. We owe everything to the classics and nobody respects them. Also horror is my favourite film genre. I watch no other films just horrors every day of my life. My top 1 million fave films are all horror. Watching horror films is my everyday hobbie!!!
18:30 you're iffy towards violence against women but enjoy the "I spit on your grave" films lol 23:40 if anything I prefer the remake because the pace is steady, the original was slow and it wasn't till like a little over an hour in where the actual slashing started
Rob zombies first Halloween was great but he definitely screwed up the sequel cabin fever I really loved both versions I love almost every remake cabin fever may have gotten a better reception if they had a new experience but I loved it either way
Thanks for putting in a nigtmare on elm street remake in the list, truly garbage film. Insulting to make a film so bad after how amazing Robert Englund was, how amazing he made the franchise. Great vid as always
I always enjoyed the Night Of The Living Dead 1990 remake.
Tony Todd is excellent in that remake!
Brandon Burns there coming to get you Brandon
Yeah, have to say that one was far better than the original. Wasn’t a huge fan of the later remakes like Dawn of the Dead though, with the running zombies.
I'd add Carpenter's The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the one with Donald Sutherland), Cape Fear, and Herzog's Nosferatu
Peter Waters cape fear good call
Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead is great and in my opinion the best movie he's ever made.
Tyler Tompkins needs more subscribers he has great reviews!
Don't like his DOTD remake, think Watchmen blows it away.
Tom Cabler
you're the man, Tom! I should have a trailer review up soon!
rocky01542
Rocky, I've actually never seen all of Watchmen before so I need to get on that.
I do agree. My favorite movie ive seen from him
Carpenter's The Thing and the Blob remake are actually better than the originals.
Mars Bringer Of Comics the 80s blob is the best imo.
Mars Bringer Of Comics as is Cronenberg's The Fly remake
What about The Thing? Carpenter version
Joey Green Yeah, feels like an oversight.
Great movie. Always forget its a remake.
***** It was so good, Carpenter made the original irrelevant.
The thing is just a no brainer, no need to even mention it
@@RealNathanExplosion Not all all. Two completely different movies for different eras. Both great films in their own right. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of the prequel, which was ruined by the studio execs getting too involved.

Hollywood needs an original idea these days.
RandomVideoCircus Sadky they probably wouldn't listen anyway. I think you have to kind of be in the club. I could be wrong.
+Special Snowfake I agree 100%
Bellbottoms!
I'm actually a huge fan of The House of Wax remake! It's a ton of fun. Basically a pseudo remake of Tourist Trap. Not a perfect movie or anything but a very fun slasher.
I totally agree! I thought it was way more fun than I ever expected!
What is netflix?
I agree. Great special effects
House of Wax is one of my absolute favorites! I love the story and backstory, the killers, the music, and the kills. I also really like the Prom Night remake! I think it's really underrated.
I pretty much agree with everything you said! I would say a great remake you forgot was The Thing with Kurt Russell.
Totally forgot that one.
*The Fly 1986 remake, amazing film!*
I love the night of the living dead remake. Tom Savini did a good job.
John Carpenter's The Thing. Not only is it the best horror remake of all time, but it's one of my favorite films of all time.
BombshellCelluloid Hell yeah man I agree
Great movie always forgot its a remake.
You're excused.....this time. But I've got my eye on you, Mister. ;)
My favorite remakes: Fright Night, Dawn of the Dead, House on Haunted Hill, Invaders from Mars, and I don't know why, but My Bloody Valentine.
One of the worst remakes was: Psycho..filmed in the 90's. The script was word 4 word copied from the orig. Hitchcock 1960 version. No reason 2 remake it, really...
Some horror re-makes i enjoy are The Blob/13 Ghosts/The Fly/Dawn Of The Dead/House On Haunted Hill...

My best - The Children (UK) though not a literal remake, this movie is the definition of what a remake should be, an expansion of the original ideas.
Psycho - Van Sant's color, shot-4-shot version is PERFECTLY cast and I had a huge crush on Anne Heche at the time.

Hi Shawn, I like your channel. Watching it since 2009. You know the my bloody valentine remake? It´s one of the better ones. Keep it cool 🙂
i definitely agree about the Remake of Friday the 13th. first 20 or so minutes had the FRIDAY feel then they just put some kids and told to be hip and all that. that screwed the film up.

Oh Shawn where is THE THING (1982) ???? Gotta be part of your best remakes? great video though my man!!
The Dawn of the Dead remake is great...probably one if my all time favs. This is a great list. Good job, Shawn!
I'm quite picky, especially when it comes to Horror but I absolutely love The Hills Have Eyes, The Ring and Evil Dead
the fly, evil dead, rob zombie's Halloween and texas xhainsaw massacre were the best remakes, I actually liked the Friday the 13th remake, I just think the acting was bad but the story was good, the omen remake was good as well.the worst- the fog, fright night, poltergeist, nightmare on elm street, and pretty much every horror remake that Hollywood does over from the 80's

Might do a top 10 video this year.
where's John Carpenter's The Thing?
Always forgot that is a remake
coolduder Oh ok. But still great picks.
I do agree i liked Amityville. Dreaded was really cool but i think its kinda a sequel in a way.

Agreed, Nightmare on elm street re-make was god awful. Thomas Dekker was the only good thing in it...... didn't really know much about Rooney Mara at the time watching it.
About The Favorite Horror Remake of Piranha 3D Silent Night
And Worst Remake of The Stepfather 13 Ghost
I agree with 99% of your picks but I’ve gotta say I really enjoyed the last Friday 13th movie.
how about the crazies remake or the fog or invasion of the body snatchers even the blob. what are ur thoughts on those
Liked Body Snatchers and the blob alot totally forgot to mention them. Didnt like the fog remake, And need to watch the Crazies again.
Shawn I was wondering if you are going to do a best and worst movie remakes video
23:13 Getting flashbacks from the Don and Murph Prom Night review. :)
I'm late to this video, but I completely agree with The Hills Have Eyes remake. A quality remake. Would of been amazing if they did use Michael.
I have to agree with you on the house of wax movie but I will always love watching Paris Hilton getting impaled
One of my fav horror remakes is House On Haunted Hill. Better than the original in my opinion. Great atmosphere
Is that Wes Craven printed on your shirt?
I agree with House of Wax. But I think the remake was more horrifying.
Another plus of the original is that it has an early role of Charles Bronson!
Another one I though of is The Hitcher. Each version is good for different reasons. It's nice when a sequel doesn't completely copy the original, and at the same time realizes it can't go too far with changes.
I'd put them both in the "best" category because they find that sweet spot.
Ya the Hitcher remake was not bad at all.
Body Snatchers (1993) is one hell of a remake (in a good sense).
The fright night remake was actually cool. The only failing in the movie was colin farrell. I don't understand how he keeps getting such good roles? ;) I don't really want to know to be honest. i love the house of wax remake to be fair also think when a stranger call's is really good, good video Shawn
I need to watch it again sometime.

My Worst butchered by the studio horror movies - The Keep followed by The Exorcist 2.The Manhunter remake Red Dragon is a great remake!
I agree i liked that remake
Most remakes are almost always a flop. It's a true roll of the dice that a remake takes you by surprise. I totally agree w/Dawn of the dead. It took me by surprise. I like surprises/twists in horror films. 30+ yr horror fan so I'm very picky.
I loved Carrie and Let me in remakes and the Pet Sematary remake really enjoyed those
Have you watched Ash vs. Evil Dead on Netflix the show on Evil Dead they're going to make a season 3 soon
Nosferatu (1922)
Dracula (1931)
Frankenstein (1910)
Frankenstein (1931)
Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde (1920)
Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde (1931)
I just proved 1931 was an awsome year for horror remakes.
Agree completely on the Nightmare on Elm Street remake. It was really bad. As a strange but benign twist of fate, it is also completely forgettable.
I loved the Sorority Row remake, perfectly captured the vibes of Mean Girls and Scream.
Ya it does have that vibe for sure.
The Thing and The Blob!!! The Thing is probably the BEST remake ever!!!
Love night of the living dead 1990. So well done, I have the German version which was based off of the twilight time blu Rays thus.... Blue tint. :(
I felt like that with Friday 13th as well. Something just didn't seem right about it.
I loved the friday the 13th remake id add that to the best ones same with house of wax, ireally enjoyed both movies alot
I really liked the House of Wax remake, it sort of reminded me of Tourist Trap in a way.
What is your favorite top horror movie?
I think Return of the living dead.
I agree with you, the Texas chainsaw massacre remake was the best
Great choices. I have most of these as well, the good and the bad. For completionist sake you just have to have some of these.
Totally agree.
18:30 you're iffy towards violence against women but enjoy the "I spit on your grave" films lol
23:40 if anything I prefer the remake because the pace is steady, the original was slow and it wasn't till like a little over an hour in where the actual slashing started
I actually love the black xmas remake, such a weird little movie, and I like the og as well
Rob zombies first Halloween was great but he definitely screwed up the sequel cabin fever I really loved both versions I love almost every remake cabin fever may have gotten a better reception if they had a new experience but I loved it either way
Thanks for putting in a nigtmare on elm street remake in the list, truly garbage film. Insulting to make a film so bad after how amazing Robert Englund was, how amazing he made the franchise. Great vid as always
