Hey everyone, thank you so much for watching! Please consider subscribing to the channel. I was warned that this could elicit some heavy emotions, and it sure as hell did! I’m curious if Percy would eventually obtain the symptoms that Melinda had and die from cancer, or if he’s in this catatonic state for years/decades. Also, I could not speak ill on the father of the two girls. He legitimately thought that John committed the crime. I wish the dad had found out it was Wild Bill, and that he could enact his own justice on that monster.
I'm conflicted about the father knowing that it was wild bill. I want him to know that John didn't do it but at the same time I can't imagine the guilt he would feel for bringing his children's murderer into his home.
John Coffey had to go because of this cruel world. People like Paul, Bruto, and the other kind guards are too few, but people like Percy and Wild Bill are everywhere.
This is definitely a movie that brings on the tears. More so if you have a personal connection. My sympathies for your loss to cancer, it's so hard even a long time afterwards to watch something like this and reflect on your own experience. A beautiful reaction, thank you so much.
1:07:00 No, the song played at the beginning of the movie was "Cheek to Cheek", written by Irving Berlin for Fred Astaire for the 1935 movie, Top Hat. 1:20:00 I’m so sorry for your loss, Jesse! It’s a horrible disease that has taken so many friends and family of mine. I definitely can relate to wishing they could’ve been healed and restored like in this film. Comforting thoughts and prayers to you and yours. 1:40:00 I saw this in theaters at 19, and it hit hard of course, but the few times I’ve seen it since hit completely different. For one thing, aside from the loss of the only Grandmother I really knew after a very long life when I was 17, I’d not had any other losses that were much too soon or unexpectedly. It’s a totally hard hitting emotional movie now, but I still love it for the good decent people you see within the story. After this watching I really want to read the book. I’m curious how much didn’t make it into the movie. Excited to find out! Already spent a couple of months reading The Stand. Such a great story! There’s been a couple television adaptations of it out there that are really good; definitely recommend checking the more recent one out! 🤓📖📽️😊
Such a masterpiece ✨️ Shawshank is another masterpiece, the prison where they filmed that is near my hometown, they say it's haunted and you can stay the night there too , only toured it once during Halloween time its pretty cool Percy is definitely one of the most hated characters in film history along with nurse Ratchet from One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest in my top 3 films of all time. Hey Mike! I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction :) And yes, we should definitely appreciate the people we love and build some great memories to remember the happy moments. ❤
The best movie ever. I've seen this a couple hundred times but it still makes me cry my eyes out. Especially when you said you get to go home John I lost it. Love all your reactions you the best buddy
Whenever someone asks me to recommend a film that will shatter them, I know exactly what to recommend now. And yes, it helped to find some kind of silver lining in this tragic story. Knowing that John is going home helped mitigate the pain. Such a beautiful character played flawlessly by the late great Michael Clarke Duncan. Thank you so much for the kind words Josh! Hope everything is good your way and that you're having a great start to 2025!
John Coffey….dropped out of the sky…heals the sick…suffered a death for the sins of another…sharing initials with Jesus Christ…he’s afraid of the dark, yet he wandered into the dark to find the woman to heal her and that’s where they saw each other.
I don't know how that didn't come to me while watching the film. It definitely felt like I was watching an angel, but I didn't make the exact correlation between him and Jesus Christ, but many of the elements are there.
new here, just starting the film, had to pause real quick to say thank you a hundred times over, good format, good picture, good volume, thank you for that, i wont watch the ones who do a 3 hour movie in a half hour, mirrored/flipped/bleached out,,,,or no volume on the film,,,,just a waste, thanks for doing it right, i will sub, like and watch more,,,once again thank you a hundred times over.
Thank you for putting out a nice long reaction video. Too many reactors cut out great chunks of movies which _can_ be okay as long as the main, iconic sequences are left in because it's those big, important, iconic scenes that we want to see reactions to. Subbing and putting you in my top 3 reactors. Binging quite a few of your back catalogue and keeping an eye out with fingers crossed for Shawshank 😉
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words :) You'll notice most of my reactions are on the lengthier side because I love including as much as possible. You might notice that this reaction just got blocked, but I'm working on getting it back up. I'm glad you got to check it out! Shawshank Redemption will be coming soon by the way 😉
First reaction I have seen from you, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. You come across as honest in your reaction and emotion, and I'll definitely be subscribing. If you're accepting recommendations, I would suggest 'Secondhand Lions' (2003), an underrated, amusing and heartfelt coming-of-age type of film with a great story and cast. It IS kind of far-fetched that none of the guards would have noticed Del's sponge wasn't wet; King is kind of prone to moments like that in his stories. There are a few parts in 'Christine' (the book) that had me going "No way...." I can totally accept that John has unexplained supernatural powers, but that suspension of disbelief has nothing to do with how people realistically act and respond.
The old musical movie is Top Hat from 1935. The adaptation moved the timeline forward three years just so it could tie the narrative together. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers were like angels. It's around on free streaming services and might just turn you into a genre addict. I understand the wish that John would somehow survive, but I knew Stephen King wouldn't cop out with a happily ever after ending.
Thank you so much for letting me know the name! I just went to go watch the full scene. Now I want to dance with my wife "cheek to cheek" :) I agree, ultimately the more impactful outcome is what Stephen King put on paper. I like to think that John is up there experience that dream he had Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
35 mins in, diggin the reaction. Just subbed and added a bunch of your vids to binge later. Hope you and wife are having a nice start to your new year! Have you seen Memento? If not, worth adding to the list. 😊
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction and I hope you enjoy some of the others when you get to them :) 2025 is off to a great start! Hope you and your family are enjoying the new year as well! That's one I added to my list recently (Memento) and I'm looking forward to it 😀
As awful as his death was, in Del’s case,it was a bit fitting. He raped and murdered a young girl, then he tried to burn her body to get rid of any evidence tying him to it. He ended up setting fire to a building, killing 6 more people including two children. Arlen Bitterbuck was convicted of killing a man simply called “the man in the suit” during a robbery.
As soon as I finished the post analysis, I immediately went to google what the prisoner's were in there for and it made me sick to learn about what Del had done. They did portray him as a sympathetic character in the film however, so they really put the curtain over our eyes with that.
Hey Gillian! Thank you so much for watching and commenting. This was a beautiful film, and I loved Michael Clarke Duncan's performance. The entire cast was spectacular!
1:20:32 - condolences for your loss. Lost my father just over a year ago to Leukemia after just about 8 weeks after he was diagnosed. Hit hard and fast and took my hero and the best man I have ever known. It still hurts.
Thank you so much! That truly means a lot. And condolences for your loss as well. I'm a strong believer that a part of our loved ones stay with us. He was there all that time with you. Even before you ever opened your eyes for the first time, he was right there. I'm sure you have several of his traits and mannerisms, all there, that's all him living through you forever my friend :)
That's one I'll be watching pretty soon :) My next two Stephen King films will be Shawshank Redemption and Dolores Claiborne. Highly recommended by a lot of the viewers. Thanks so much for watching and commenting Jason!
That lawyer was comparing black people to dogs and why you cant fully trust them not comparing a criminal to a dog another than that love the reaction I first saw 1 hr and 51 mins and was like "dont have the time" now look at me made it to the end
One of my favorite movies all about Humanity. Just think how old John was, and make sense what John said about being fog tired & why he wanted it to be over, tired of being alone line a sparrow in the rain, he has no doubt out lived his loved ones. I had an advantage , I read the book when it first came out. He's such a brilliant writer and the books gives so much more information, he always writes so you can see it in your mind. And expelling the pain, diseases and mental stress, hurt. Even with the eliments of and hinting of religion, like his Attorney saying there's no record of John until the day he's found with the girls, no birth record or anything about him , " as if he fell from the sky" also scared of the dark, where evil , illness and pain lurks, and you see him woth light all around him several Xs in the movie and Good is surrounded in light as when you cross over to heaven going into the light. Like Melinda said she dreamed of him they found each other in the dark and he saved her. And he really was so innocent he didn't know where all his scars came from as Melinda asked , he didn't know who hurt him,. But he was led my God to be a true Miracle to help people. To me it's a most wonderful m9vie and book @ Humanity how we treat one another at the most crucial points in our lives and in the world. Do we help one another , as the guards did,( except Percy) or do we make things harder on others, like our family, friends co workers , neighbors ? " you can't hide what's in your heart" that's why John e tired his cell and held his hand out to shake Paul's hand he saw the man he was, Rutherford he showed the man he was openly to him. And Dal3, Mr Jingles and the good guards. Thas how he saw Biily heart and what he'd done, he wanted Paul to see it, not to help himself, but so Paul knew what John was and stood for and so he and the other guards knew, that's the only ones he really cared that knew. In heaven the parents ect will see. John knew that, I loved how he comforted the guards saying he will be OK in a few min, with God and he can rest finally. Ty for the Great reaction and I must say perfectly casts they all were giving their A games !
Thank you so much for providing this amazing insight! You made me truly feel better about the outcome and I love what you said about the two girls parents. When they make their way to heaven, they'll come to know the truth and I hope they would embrace John who tried to save their little girls. I can imagine John up there laughing and joking with the girls and they see what a true angel he really was. ❤
Brother Jesse! Hope you & yours are doing well so far in '24. Got a little story on this one!😅 This was filmed at the old Riverbend Maximum Security Prison just outside Nashville. Around '87 when i was a teen me & my cousin got arrested for weed at the wavepool.😅 We got community service & had to go to what became known as a "Scared Straight" program at Riverbend when it was still full. The convicts didnt phase us at all, but when they took us to death-row it was fukd up!!! In the movie the death-chamber is a set. At Riverbend there was a door at end of the row. They walked us outside to a little red brick building about the size of a one car garage. It was blazing, middle of summer. It had two rooms with a glass partician. First room had a concrete steel-top slab for body. In the second room there was "Old Sparky". There was just a couple of turned off wall fans & it was like an oven in there. But the worst & creepiest part of it was that even though it hadnt been used in a while, the smell in that building was indescribable, & with the heat, it was nauseating. Felt like Hell to us! Must've done something cause i never wound up in the pen?!😅 Then when they came to town to shoot the movie a few yrs after prison closed my friends dad got cast as an extra playing a prison guard. I saw this one time when it came out on video. And i never need to see it again!!!😅 I MIGHT wind up watching this to see how you liked it though, my friend. Good job as usual! See ya. ✌️🌎❤️
HAHA! I loved reading this! I can picture the guards just escorting you guys around and you and your cousin just whistling and leaning back and then your eyes go wide when you enter death row 😂 OH MAN! The part about the smell sent a shiver down my spine! Like the warden in the film said, "That smell won't go out for 5 years". Damn I guess it just never goes away. SO DAMN EERIE! I'm glad it had an impact on you to never end up in such a place :) I feel you on never needing to see a film again, regardless of how great it was. There's one or two of those for me as well. ✌❤
i always comment on this, on green mile reactions, hats off to Doug Hutchison (Percy), an actor who can make you h8 a character this much, is truly a MASTER OF HIS CRAFT, his performance in this role is very under rated, every bit as good as Tom Hanks and the others, just sayin.
I had a 7 week old kitten I swore was a mouse. He crawled under my dresser, with less than an inch of space. When I had my rugs cleaned a week later, I put him in the bathroom. After the cleaning, I could hear him crying and could not find him. I figured he was behind the furniture I had placed in bathroom. Nope. He crawled under door of closet where water heater was. Somehow he then crawled under the paneling beneath the bathroom sink. I saw his little gray paw stick out of hole in paneling. Cheap plastic workmanship, so I pulled it away, and rescued my little guy
Aww! I hope he brought so much joy and happiness to your life! I swear animals are a gift that sometimes we don't deserve. Truly like little angels who are here to make us happy and we should give them the best life possible.
Stop and give some real thought to Paul's curse and penance. All his family and relations he grew up with and were relevant in his life, including his wife and his children.....are all gone. He's totally alone now. It cold be considered one definition of a living hell, to be on the planet and everyone you knew was now dead.
It makes me think about how long John has lived with this, and him having to lose people who loved over who knows how many years. At a certain point, anyone would just want mercy and not continue. We've all had that conversation about immortality or living far beyond the average life span. Honestly, I'm good if I can just see some grand kids and I'd rather go before I become completely dependent on someone else. Just me though.
@@jessebatres6895 Speilberg said that it was the most accurate adaptation of one of his book No one seems to have noticed but I also liked the nature versus nurture aspect with regards to Delacroix and Billy the kids while they are both exposed to the nice guards. One adapted well while the other did not
Oh man! It's insane how far we've come. Imagine all the pain and agony people went through back then, when now there's so much available to us just down the road at the pharmacy that can alleviate all of that.
@jessebatres6895 Yeah, but look how fast it's changing. We're already starting to get gene coded treatments targeted for each individual's body and genetics. There's even study on self-replicating organic-silicone hybrid nano-robots to infect a body, for real time monitoring of every single cell, by wireless app. And the first public anti-biotics are only 80 years old? We have people living in space and preparing habitats to fit the Moon and Mars, and nobody had ever even flown before the Wright Bros, not much more than a year ago. It's all changing super fast now, it's just that a lot of advances are super specialized, so mostly we don't all see it.
1. YOU WILL CRY😭😭 2. Dabbs Greer/old Paul was ill during production, so his part was done later. He also played Reverend Alden on "Little House on the Prairie". 3. Hammersmith was not a good lawyer. (most likely a racial thing. It was 1935 South.) 4. In the book King briefly covers why the Chief and Del are on death row. 5. This movie was nominated for Best Supporting Actor (MCD) and Best Cast but unfortunately neither won.😭😭 6. Players in other King adaptations: Jeffery DeMunn: "Shawshank Redemption", "The Mist", Storm of the Century and William Sadler: "Shawshank Redemption", "The Mist". David Morse: "The Langoliers". Patricia Clarkson played Margarat White in King's remake of "Carrie". Needless to say, it was a much different part. 7. Movie magic Electricity makes the body contract. Del wouldn't be able to scream. I know it' just for the movie because of the length of the execution scene. 8. IRL James Cromwell is a vegan and didn't want to grill meat for the BBQ scene but was told that in 1935 people actually ate meat so he agreed to have some on the grill. 9. RE Percy: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch. BTW Kudos to Doug Hutchison for the great job of playing Percy. EVERYONE hates him.🤬🤬 10. John also rescues the other patients at Briar Ridge. 11. IRL both David Morse and James Cromwell are about the same height as Michael Clarke Duncan.😇 They used planks, a small bed and smaller chair along with trick photography/angles to make John look taller. 12 The scene where John takes Mr. Jingles for safe keeping before Del's execution, they used a real mouse, and it pooped on Paul's shoulder, and he brushed it off. 13. Now we know what the "cold is best" dry toast is for. 14 EVERYBODY cries and has to take time to reflect. Congratulations you just experienced. the GREATEST MOVIE EVER. (GOAT)🤩 15. Four words for you: Stephen King. You're WELCOME!
I'm so glad he got his comeuppance! I was afraid he'd either due more harm on his way out or that he'd right off into the sunset without any punishment. The actor did an amazing job of bringing this despicable character to life. Bravo to him for sure!

Hey Mike! I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction :) And yes, we should definitely appreciate the people we love and build some great memories to remember the happy moments. ❤
I adore Thomas Newman's soundtrack, that man is a musical genius. He never fails to set the mood in movies.
Jessie, I watch a lot of reactors, but you have become my number 1! Love your genuine reactions!! Keep it up!!!
Thank you so much Ronnie! Love and appreciate the support my friend! I hope all is well your way and that you're having a great start to 2025!
Thank you for your true heartfelt reaction to this real masterpiece of a movie.
I left you a like for surprising me - simply for the moment when the warden asks "what in the ____ fuck was that"?
I love your censoring there.
I gotta maintain some level of decency in these videos 😂 I love throwing little "wisecrack" edits in here to see if someone ever calls them out
The old musical movie is Top Hat from 1935.
Now I want to dance with my wife "cheek to cheek" :)
I agree, ultimately the more impactful outcome is what Stephen King put on paper. I like to think that John is up there experience that dream he had
Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Oh one of my faves! Looking forward to this reaction.
Hope you enjoyed David! :) I'll cherish this film forever
That's one I added to my list recently (Memento) and I'm looking forward to it 😀
what a very moving reaction....you're a good soul...thank you
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) So many of these films really captivate me and I truly get lost in the story.
Everyone: Oh, a mouse?
Percy: 🔪🔪🗡🗡👿👿
Haha! Right! Going psycho mode for no reason 😂
Just like Shawshank, knowing the crimes adds a whole other layer. I wish they had left that info in.
It's been a while since I read the book, but I thought Bitterbuck killed a man in a fight over a pair of boots.
As soon as I finished the post analysis, I immediately went to google what the prisoner's were in there for and it made me sick to learn about what Del had done. They did portray him as a sympathetic character in the film however, so they really put the curtain over our eyes with that.
Omg my heart 😢, i will always love this film ❤
Hey Gillian! Thank you so much for watching and commenting. This was a beautiful film, and I loved Michael Clarke Duncan's performance. The entire cast was spectacular!
Loved your reaction, i think this film makes you run through each and every emotion we have
1:20:32 - condolences for your loss.
@ that truly means the world to me. I appreciate that. Btw...Shawshank has to be next. It's the best movie ever made.
Assuming you haven't already seen it, Shawshank Redemption, another non-horror Stephen King adaptation, is an absolute must watch.
That was a great reaction to one of the most remarkable films ever made.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) This film was spectacular!
Jesse you are a cool dude. I feel like I want to have a beer with you. Great reaction as always.
Thank you so much my friend! A beer and watching a great movie :) Hope you're having a great start to 2025!
Walking is how I have made my best friends. Just walking.
Will definitely be a hobby I pick up once these knees start to slow down a bit :)
Great reaction
Thanks, Jesse! 🐁
Must've done something cause i never wound up in the pen?!😅
Then when they came to town to shoot the movie a few yrs after prison closed my friends dad got cast as an extra playing a prison guard. I saw this one time when it came out on video. And i never need to see it again!!!😅 I MIGHT wind up watching this to see how you liked it though, my friend. Good job as usual!
See ya.
✌️🌎❤️
HAHA! I loved reading this! I can picture the guards just escorting you guys around and you and your cousin just whistling and leaning back and then your eyes go wide when you enter death row 😂
OH MAN! The part about the smell sent a shiver down my spine! Like the warden in the film said, "That smell won't go out for 5 years". Damn I guess it just never goes away. SO DAMN EERIE! I'm glad it had an impact on you to never end up in such a place :)
I feel you on never needing to see a film again, regardless of how great it was.
The lady in the rocking chair…The Constellation Cassiopeia….
Just spent the last 15 minutes looking at pics of that constellation. :)
A mouse just ran out of my closet literally 10 seconds ago just as mr jingles was on screen. Im about to put another notch on the bb gun.
Lol! I remember the first time I saw a mouse. My mom saw it too and jumped on a chair screaming lol!
John took Dale's pain away
Hurts me more to think about that. John was such a lovely character and portrayed beautifully by Michael Clarke Duncan. What a powerhouse performance!
this fking movie hit always .
It's one I'll have to brace myself for each time I watch it going forward. A spectacular film!
this is one amazing film
It truly is! I'm blown away by how spectacular the entire cast was. An captivating and tragic story that is going to stay with me for a long time.
@@jessebatres6895 Speilberg said that it was the most accurate adaptation of one of his book No one seems to have noticed but I also liked the nature versus nurture aspect with regards to Delacroix and Billy the kids while they are both exposed to the nice guards. One adapted well while the other did not
You made me wonder: The discovery of the first antibiotic, penicillin, will be a hundred years old in '28. The first prescription wasn't until 1941.
If you havent seen Tom Hanks' speech about Michael Clark Duncan, performed at his funeral..
You should
I'll be checking it out soon. I feel like I'm gonna need some tissues for it.
John initials were no coincidad jesus Christ ❤
I can't believe I didn't make that connection while watching the film. ❤
GOD is always with you
GOD is always within you 😉
1. YOU WILL CRY😭😭
2. Dabbs Greer/old Paul was ill during production, so his part was done later. He also played Reverend Alden on "Little House on the Prairie".
3. Hammersmith was not a good lawyer. (most likely a racial thing. It was 1935 South.)
4. In the book King briefly covers why the Chief and Del are on death row.
5. This movie was nominated for Best Supporting Actor (MCD) and Best Cast but unfortunately neither won.😭😭
6. Players in other King adaptations: Jeffery DeMunn: "Shawshank Redemption", "The Mist",
Storm of the Century and William Sadler: "Shawshank Redemption", "The Mist".
8. IRL James Cromwell is a vegan and didn't want to grill meat for the BBQ scene but
was told that in 1935 people actually ate meat so he agreed to have some on the grill.
9. RE Percy: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch. BTW Kudos to Doug Hutchison for the great job of playing Percy. EVERYONE hates him.🤬🤬
(GOAT)🤩
15. Four words for you: Stephen King. You're WELCOME!
Percy Wetmore is the GOAT of Stephen King Villians.🤴#CrownPrinceOfLoiusiana
I'm so glad he got his comeuppance! I was afraid he'd either due more harm on his way out or that he'd right off into the sunset without any punishment. The actor did an amazing job of bringing this despicable character to life. Bravo to him for sure!
@jessebatres6895 That's what I mean.
👍🏿👍🏿
Thank you so much!
Back then it was kinda a man world it the best way I can explain. The dr would tell the husband then he would tell his wife.
I can 100% see that. Just the way it was back then. Today, my wife forces me to take medication if I'm sick or I get scolded lol!
Don't say John Coffee, say J. C. and you may get a clearer insight into what this was about.
So many elements here and I can't believe I didn't connect the dots until afterwards.
From the mind of the Master, Stephen King.
A true genius! I have no idea how I'm going to rank these films of his I've seen thus far.
