I've seen this movie countless times, but when John asks to not have the mask on because he's afraid of the dark, I break down in tears every single time.
The thing is the innocence of John Coffee is what got to me. He was this big imposing character but he was the most gentle naive person you could imagine. He just wanted the best for humanity and was just misunderstood to the people that didn’t know him. This movie was so damn good
Yeah, his sweetness is actually what did me in too. The fact that such innocence, kindness, and vulnerability exists among such callousness, ugliness, and evil, is sometimes too much to emotionally process. His character was too good for this world, to the point that it was painful to watch. It wasn't the cruelty, but the sweetness, humanity, and childlike innocence portrayed in this film that stirred something very deep inside of me that I usually try not to feel in my daily life.
@@theprousteffect9717 I totally agree. I feel like this emotion is what the writers and director of the movie were really trying to invoke in us as viewers. Done so well!
See to me he wasn't naive, he knew what the world was like, the most beautiful thing about him, to me, was how kind and pure he was DESPITE knowing how awful the world was, to him and everyone else

John is many things. He is a healer and can heal anything, he is an empath and can sense emotion, he can feel pain and injury and the closer he is the more he can feel it, his gift probably makes him immortal to natural death so that only someone else can kill him. The mouse living so long would be the equivalent of Paul living about 2000 years and they only got a tiny fragment of John's gift. He has seen the whole world in a world before planes, trains and automobiles are commonplace. His initials being JC are not a coincidence. I am a 46 year old man and I cry every time I see this movie or a reaction to it. This movie is perhaps the best movie ever made. The actors all gave award winning performances, the adaptation from the book was perfect, the director did a perfect job.
nope the average mouse lives 4 to 7 years. it lived 64 years past the events of the past. so around 4 times its age. the average man lives 76.3 years. so you x that by 4 and you come up with 305.2. he won't live thousands of years and if he would live that long he wouldn't be looking old at 108. the women thought he was in his 80s. but at the same time he most likely won't live to 305 either. since he is already relatively old looking. if he had a drastically enhanced life span he wouldn't have reached "middle aged" appearence until he was in his mid 100s
Johnny Cash? John Cusack? Joan Cusack? James Cameron? John Candy? John Cena? Jennifer Connelly? Jackie Chan? John Coffee is NOT a metaphor for Jesus Christ because Jesus Christ would not have "punished them bad men". Jesus would never take it upon himself to punish people. Jesus even asked God to forgive the people persecuting him. Stop blowing smoke outta your ass.
I'd have to say The Shawshank Redemption is the best and greatest film ever made but The Green Mile is up there close. Top 10, in my opinion. Regardless, Stephen King is a genius and Frank Darabont is extremely underrated.

The actor who played Tom Hanks' character as an old man was Dabs Greer, best known for playing the reverend on Little House on the Prarie. He lived in Pasadena, Ca and was a customer at the bank my mom worked at. He was the nicest person.
In the long list of actors who were robbed of an Oscar, I’ve always put Michael Clarke Duncan as John Coffey near the top, absolutely astounding performance.
I started tearing up 3 minutes into this video. I’ve seen this movie so many times, that it’s an immediate reaction. Especially when MCD appears on screen. He steals my heart the same every time I watch this film. When he delivers the lines, “Please boss, don’t put that thing over my face. Oh god I better get the tissues ready.. one of my all time favourite films. I think we can all relate to John coffeys line "Mostly I'm tired of people being ugly to each other." Wise words from a pure heart.
Tom Hanks turned from an amazing comedic actor into one of the absolute best dramatic actors of all time. His early work was pretty much only comedies, but around the mid 90s he transitioned into dramatic roles and became a legend.
This was the first movie I ever cried in and I remember watching this when I was only 9yrs old. No idea why I was crying but I just knew a good man didn’t deserve to die.
I read these Stephen King books when they first came out in a series. There was a line out the door every month for the new chapter. That last book in August (my birthday), we were all crying in line like we were on the mile w/ Coffey... we knew he was going to die... we just hugged each other and read the last chapter on any table, wall or curb. The only other time ive seen a population in line like this was when superman died in the comics.
Another Stephen King masterpiece! Amazing performances! I cry every time I see it! Michael Clark Duncan should have won an Oscar for this! RIP sweet man! ❤😢
The Green Mile is one of the most beautiful yet sad and depressing movies ever made. Everyone did such a good job acting, directing and writing this movie
Such a powerful movie. One thing I think about is how Coffey could feel the pain of people around the world, and this was 1935. The Japanese invasion of China was on the horizon, and the wider Second World War after it. I can see why Coffey wanted a rest and how all those events would have effected him.
I'm really impressed how Greg took a 3 hour movie, cut it down to a 30 minute reaction, and you didn't miss a thing! Great reaction. I love this movie. It is one of my top 10 favorite movies. Hands down. Great cast, great script, amazing acting! Love this movie.
thank you friend! Really do want to thank Praper. Really was team effort here on the reaction. Usually how we do things is they do first cut, I review it write down what to adjust, cut, what specifically to re edit but kept getting blocked so did get heavily involved in the re edit you see here BUT the thanks to the editing on this really does go to Praper :)
I saw this in my subscription feed and said, "Oh no Greg, this is gonna be a tough one for you." Always love your reactions and how genuine you are, I think we all had very similar responses (I know I did, bawled my eyes out). It is a gift to care this deeply, I hope you never lose it
I absolutely love that you weren't ashamed to cry during this movie!! It shows that you have a heart and compassion. Alot of guys don't like to show that. Becoming a new subscriber today.
I remember watching this as a little kid. Didn’t understand the injustices and assumed it was obviously a fictional idea. Little did I know this is a thing that happens everyday in todays world.
I cry every single time I watch this and I’ve seen it several times. Sometimes I can’t watch certain scenes though. Beautiful film but SO heartbreaking!
Watching this on my break at work, crying watching Greg cry, because this film always makes me cry. It's one of the most perfect films ever made. The performances are all round the board, incredible. But Michael Clarke Duncan is the heart & the soul of this film. Obviously with Mr Jingles as well!!
This is an absolute masterpiece. I've seen it so many times and I'll cry each time because it is one hell of a deep movie. The casting choices were absolutely phenomenal. I hated Percy and I hated Wild Bill, but that's because the actors did such a great job with those characters. And of course Tom Hanks and especially Michael Clarke Duncan...what a standout performance. He was always a good actor, but this was his finest performance and it's 1 of those roles where I don't feel like any other actor on this planet could have been as good. He was born for that role and was amazing. As for choosing between this, Forrest Gump, or Shawshank...I'll take this one over the other 2 any day. Both of those movies are amazing and I absolutely love them, but this movie just has something deeper than those others. Bravo to those that voted for this one because it was a great choice. I really would like to see a reaction to 'Dances With Wolves', but this movie was the best choice.
I am one woman who respects a man who can express their emotions instead of hiding them. This is my favorite Stephen King movie ever. I cried in the movie theater the first time I watched it and I still cry every time since. They made one hell of a beautiful movie in every way, and I think everyone should watch it at least once.
I've watched so many reaction videos for this movie, and every single one of you has the only appropriate reaction to Percy stepping on the mouse: complete and utter shock.
This movie gets me every time. As someone who sees death on a regular basis as my job I have experienced very unexplainable things. I've heard many stories from my residents going back 100 years for the past 15 years.
Being life long Stephen King fan, I read the novellas years before the movie, and cried then. The movie brought the characters to life. Trivia: Bruce Willis convinced Michael Clarke Duncan to try out for the part of John Coffey, because he read the book too, and thought he'd be perfect for the role. He was right. Edit after your reaction: I love how you watch, and listen to the story, and can pick out what might happen. And I respect your emotions. Stephen King is against the death penalty. He's written and spoken about it. Thats how Shawshank and Green Mile came about. King isn't a horror, death writer. He writes about the living...The day Mr. King's time on this earth is over, I'll be taking a day off work to mourn, and there is no "famous" person in the world, I'd ever feel the need to do that for.
Don't be ashamed of crying from this movie, it proves you have a good heart, this movie is truly amazing, it touches the inner portions of your heart and soul.
Best male reaction I've seen to this movie. Most guys like myself are too emotionally repressed to let ourselves cry or tear up. So well done. Hard to pick a favorite but for me this is the most emotional of the 3. Shawshank ends on such an upbeat note aka happy ending. Forrest Gump is a roller coaster up and down up and down with a bittersweet ending.
I wish y'all hadn't had to learn that growing up. I'm glad it's being unlearned today, but for those who were forced to suppress tears, it caused a lot of untold pain. But if there's any movie to break through it, damn, it's this one.
@@lunacouer I agree, I too am glad men are becoming comfortable sharing their emotions and letting go instead of bottling up. It's probably why for a while it was hard for me to express myself properly which led to an intense depression and mental health issues. I am learning to express myself and it is so awesome when I do. I have a friend who also let go and he is more comfortable sharing things now mostly because I will listen and try to help him. I did the same thing for a manager that I once worked with and even now he is still eternally grateful for how much I helped him.
My dad has a tough guy persona that I’ve never seen falter my entire life. He confessed that he’s only cried twice in his adult life. Once when his sister died, and the other was when he watched My Sister’s Keeper
The one line in this movie that always gets me, besides half of what John Coffey says, is the line from Tom Hanks: "On the day of my judgment, when I stand before God, and He asks me why did I kill one of his true miracles, what am I gonna say?"
It's okay to cry, king. This movie makes me cry every damn time, that is why I RARELY watch this movie. Damn good movie but I am a mess at the end of it.
This movie is a complete emotional roller coaster. You got from laughing, to anger, and crying. Percy is probably One of the most despised and hated characters ever put on celluloid. Anyone who can watch this movie and not cry does not have a soul. I don’t no how many times I’ve seen this movie. It always makes me cheer up. Even when I watch people react to it can’t help to get a lump in my throat at tear in my eye. This movie is a masterpiece. Although I will put Shawshank above it.
I must have seen this movie dozens of times over the years, everytime I watch it I am an absolute sobbing wreck. Every. Damn. Time. Michael Clarke Duncan was an absolute tour de force, you were 100% right no other person could have played John Coffee. He breaks my heart. Tom Hanks was brilliant as always. I never realised it was 3 hours long before, I have always been so invested I never noticed.
This one gut punches me everytime...especially when Paul ask John about what will be said to him when he heads to heaven. Think I agree that I like this one most over the other two. Saw it on Christmas Eve when it came out, small tradition I had with grandparents. Had to see it, having read tons of Stephen King as a kid. Probably the first movie that actually made me cry.
Just watched it for the first time, been a huge cinema nerd for the longest time and have been putting this movie off. When Tom’s older self cried to the flicker show in the beginning I just knew it was some crazy subtle foreshadowing so I buckled down and gave it my full attention by myself ready to be enthralled by some good ole movie magic. When the flicker show came back around in the theater scene I absolutely lost it. So good. What a movie man, I am at a lost of words, I am so moved rn. Cinema.
I've always thought this is a movie everyone should watch at least once in their life, and it hits you in such a masterful way that no one ever has to watch it twice
RIP Michael Clarke Duncan and a Chicago legend. It’s always hardest for me at the end when Tom puts the necklace back on him. Kinda reminds me of real life when Tom gave his eulogy. MCD really showed how much acting potential he had but he’s gone way too soon
My wife was so mad at me when I had her watch this movie. She hates when people are so cruel to others but you can’t help but love all these performances. You should read the books!
Yes I have a colleague that says to me “why do I want to watch a terribly sad movie? For what? Just to cry?” It’s heartbreaking. She prefers laughter and comedies but of course she means it genuinely
I cry every time, saddest movie Ive seen. I’m 20 years old and ever since my dad showed me this when I was 9 or 10, I’ve enjoyed it so much and feel it in the heart every time more and more. Michael Clarke Duncans impact on this movie is just out of this world. Just so good
The Green Mile is one of my favorite films of all time. Mr. Duncan, Mr. Hanks, heck, everyone in the cast was amazing. I respect you being able to show your emotions freely while watching this because I couldn't hold back the tears myself. Thank you for reviewing this movie and for sharing your honest reactions to it. You're awesome, sir!
But seriously man, great reaction and discussion after as usual. I love how you just discuss YOUR THOUGHTS in a breakdown. I know that sounds silly, but so many people on this platform try to impress or perform for the camera, but this just feels like a genuine film course discussion from my college years and I love that.
I love how raw Greg is with his emotions. I usually watch a The Legend of the Fall along with The Green Mile and some other great 90s dramas together. You should check it out.
I've watched this multiple times and I was still crying with you. It can't be helped. It's like watching a child die cuz he was just so innocent and pure. It didn't feel right to anyone.
Greg, your genuine emotions and tears showed that you are human. This film is a masterpiece, and Michael Clarke Duncan's acting (and that of Tom Hanks, of course) is top tier, "infecting" John with incredible gentleness and humanity. Simply phenomenal.
The silver lining of this tragic film, for me anyway, is the fact Mr Jingles not only survives but given an extra long life is just so perfect, I love him 🥺
I can ugly cry at the end of this movie... when Tom Hanks cracks saying "roll on 2"... I just can't help it. Love this movie... I think everyone should watch it.
John and Del both had learning difficulties ,Del believed that Mr Jingles was going to "Mouseville" and John was called an "imbecile" ,they were both childlike which made it more heart wrenching, anyone with a heart will shed tears watching this great movie, I did and I had seen it before.
This is hands down my favourite reaction of all time. You GOT this film, and it was so great to experience it again with someone who completely appreciated it.
This movie is almost cruel with its immense kindness, tenderness, and hope. It's such a fine message, it makes us hurt with sympathy; tears are inevitable. It's a wonderful movie. You fought the good fight, TRR, until the very end of the film. Obviously you're a true human being. Thank you for your open honesty and true reactions. Elaine has one of the most poignant lines in the whole movie: "He infected you with life?!" Two other clues: the lawyer (Gary Sinese) says there is no back story for JC, it's like he just dropped to earth; and John himself, while watching the flicker show, says "Theys angels, just like in heaven."
Dude, you made me cry so hard. It really was a great movie. Your emotions, reactions and honesty to what you watch, is so authentic, real and honest, which is so remarkable, refreshing and encouraging. I have soooooooo much respect, appreciation and admiration for you. Thanks for keeping everything so real. The movies, previews, interviews and ideologies you review, are the best, even if some of your reviews I may not agree with, but you always come from a place of truth, which I so admire and respect. Keep up the great work.
I think any of us that have been a fan and appreciated Greg as he’s let us into his life in this channel over the years, knew that the second this was posted, that this was going to be a very special reaction. Most of us don’t, and won’t, ever know you personally past this awesome channel and community, but this just really seemed like the kind of masterpiece you would really enjoy and take to heart, Greg! Like many of us 🙂 (sorry for being presumptuous, btw, just love this film, and anytime someone whose educated opinion on most film I respect, it’s always a blast to watch along with the gems you have somehow missed. We all have those lol…for instance, I am a MASSIVE “mafia movie” genre fan, and come from both some real life intrigue, and a track record of seeing every mafia film out there. Except any of The Godfather films somehow…)😅 Anyways, have a great day, brother, and thanks for sharing your reaction! Please continue this unintentional “Tom Hanks/Gary Sinese/Frank Darabont/what have you” roller coaster as long as you want 🙂
Oh Greg, why do you keep doing this to yourself😭 This is the movie that I watch every time I need a good ugly cry. It’s so freaking good and the whole supernatural element of John Coffey doesn’t even seem out of place.
This is one of the best made movies I’ve ever seen. Great character development. No matter how times I’ve watched it I tear up. Beautifully made. 💕 A long movie but it needed the length to really tell the story. I challenge anyone with a heart to not have an emotional reaction after watching this.
I've only seen this movie two times in its entirety. The emotional stress it puts me through is too much, but its one of the best movies ever made and im so glad you got to know the story. I sob uncontrollably every time I watch it.
In my opinion, Frank Darabound is the best director to film this type of emotion. I bow to this and the directorial work of "The Shashank Redemtion"... If you look at the IMDB or RottenTomatos ranking, his work speaks for itself: MASTERPIECES
I absolutely adore this movie. And it is a heartbreaker for sure. I really recommend dead poets society it sort of gives similar energy to the green mile: inspirational but heavy. Love your amazing content as always 💙
Aw, Greg. We love you. The Green Mile is one of my top ten favorite films of all time (and one of my favorite books, as well) -- it was a pleasure to watch you experience it. Stephen+ Frank + Prison Films = magic.
I knew what Greg's reaction would be to The Green Mile would be as soon as I saw he chose it, to see someone with his empathy in todays broken world, is very heartwarming. I'm not crying, I'm just exercising my face muscles

@@ReelRejectsme and my parents watched this movie and when it got to the scene where John Coffey was executed, all of us cried
I saw this in my subscription feed and said, "Oh no Greg, this is gonna be a tough one for you."
Always love your reactions and how genuine you are, I think we all had very similar responses (I know I did, bawled my eyes out). It is a gift to care this deeply, I hope you never lose it
I was broken by the end of this film, tears covered my whole face pretty much. It’s a brilliant film with brilliant performances all round
I absolutely love that you weren't ashamed to cry during this movie!! It shows that you have a heart and compassion.
Alot of guys don't like to show that.

I remember watching this as a little kid. Didn’t understand the injustices and assumed it was obviously a fictional idea. Little did I know this is a thing that happens everyday in todays world.
no it doesn't, this IS fiction
I think he was just talking about how ugly people were to each other. @oliviacline509
There is no human being in the world who hasn't shed a tear watching this masterpiece of a film.
I bet
i didnt shed a tear because i skipped most of the parts because in lazy for 3 hours

I cry every single time I watch this and I’ve seen it several times. Sometimes I can’t watch certain scenes though. Beautiful film but SO heartbreaking!
The fact that Michael Clarke Duncan didn't win an Oscar for this film is a travesty
Greg's reaction to the Percy and Mr. Jingle situation is PRICELESS!!
Actually watching that moment back made me go “I’m glad this was caught on camera” hahah
RIP Big Mike, your gentle soul shone through in your performance that should have won an Oscar.
Forrest Gump : "My movie is so sad. Probably the saddest of all time..."
John Coffey : "Let me put down my drink, and take my hand Boss...."
Every performance in this film was top drawer. no weak links. Just a stunning film. Man i forgot how good this is.
Perfect performances from every single person I agree. The film is an all timer.
This movie gets me every time. As someone who sees death on a regular basis as my job I have experienced very unexplainable things. I've heard many stories from my residents going back 100 years for the past 15 years.
Hugs. This was a heavy hitter. The purity and simplicity of John Coffeey...... 💔❤😢
“Feel how we feel then, we don’t hate you, can you feel that?”
That quote is what got me
Being life long Stephen King fan, I read the novellas years before the movie, and cried then.
I 100% agree. The only author, along with G.G.Kay, that I have all
his books in hard cover.
Michael Clarke Duncan deserved this Oscars win. I was so upset when he lost
Gump is the worst of the 3
R.I.P. Michael Clarke Duncan. Amazing actor in every genre. Forever our gentle giant. ❤
The one line in this movie that always gets me, besides half of what John Coffey says, is the line from Tom Hanks:
"On the day of my judgment, when I stand before God, and He asks me why did I kill one of his true miracles, what am I gonna say?"
That line kills me every time!🥺
God: "Don't worry. You're gonna have plenty of time to think of an answer."
@@Papadoc1981 He's the new Wandering Jew. A man cursed to walk the Earth forever in punishment, seeking a redemption he cannot have.
Just reading that line gets me going 😢
Movie makes me cry every single time I watch it. This Forrest Gump. And the movie Lion. Gets me every single time.
This movie taught me a harsh truth. Life isn’t always fair, the world for the most part doesn’t care about fair.
Cinema.
This movie rips my heart apart every single time, it never fails.
Not only is it Stephen king, but it’s also another Frank Darabont movie. First Shawshank then this. Amazing.
I've always thought this is a movie everyone should watch at least once in their life, and it hits you in such a masterful way that no one ever has to watch it twice
Yeah, I agree. That's good because it's too emotionally draining to sit through more than once lol.
RIP Michael Clarke Duncan and a Chicago legend. It’s always hardest for me at the end when Tom puts the necklace back on him. Kinda reminds me of real life when Tom gave his eulogy. MCD really showed how much acting potential he had but he’s gone way too soon
This is my favorite Stephen King movie by far. It always cracks my Top 10 favorite movies of all time list.
Love your kind heart, spirit, and empathy. Thank you for being authentic. 😍
More tears!!! Lord Greg you must have no tears left 🤣🤣🤣 this is another excellent pick & just endless tears. He got me crying.
Your reaction to Percy stepping on Mr. Jingles is the BEST reaction I have seen, & I have watched at least 50 reactions to this movie!
I love how raw Greg is with his emotions.
I usually watch a The Legend of the Fall along with The Green Mile and some other great 90s dramas together.
You should check it out.
Legends of the Fall! Fantastic film. Very emotional and sad, but full of well written characters and moments.
This movie breaks me every time I watch it. It hurts me to my core. It is a masterpiece in direction and acting
The silver lining of this tragic film, for me anyway, is the fact Mr Jingles not only survives but given an extra long life is just so perfect, I love him 🥺
Your authenticity and sensitivity touched my heart. Instant subscriber.
Michael Clarke Duncan's character heals people and cough out their sickness
dude .. watching this again with you broke my heart .. I was crying right there with you!!
This is my mom's favorite movie of all time, and I definitely can see why. It makes me cry every single time I watch it.
I can ugly cry at the end of this movie... when Tom Hanks cracks saying "roll on 2"... I just can't help it. Love this movie... I think everyone should watch it.
I absolutely love the level of empathy you have...I weep during so many movies.....it hurts me inside....love these reviews....
This is my favorite reaction to this masterpiece of a movie. Bless you for letting your emotions show.
I love your reaction, you have a kind and empathetic heart. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Oh Greg, why do you keep doing this to yourself😭 This is the movie that I watch every time I need a good ugly cry. It’s so freaking good and the whole supernatural element of John Coffey doesn’t even seem out of place.
I gotta say i was happy to see this notification, this is one of my fave movies and again i couldnt help but cry.
This is one of the best made movies I’ve ever seen. Great character development. No matter how times I’ve watched it I tear up. Beautifully made. 💕 A long movie but it needed the length to really tell the story. I challenge anyone with a heart to not have an emotional reaction after watching this.
When done right, a long run time can give a story a chance to breathe and give you a chance to sit with it.
I've never looked more forward to seeing someone cry to this movie then right now.
This movie stuck with me as a kid I’m surprised you just seen this but glad you did and now people who never seen can
I've only seen this movie two times in its entirety.
Captain my captain
Dead Poets Society would be a great choice to review.
I agree with you in the ranking of the three movies you named. Green Mile is my favorite of the three.
Aw, Greg. We love you. The Green Mile is one of my top ten favorite films of all time (and one of my favorite books, as well) -- it was a pleasure to watch you experience it. Stephen+ Frank + Prison Films = magic.
Green mile broke me and made me an instant fan boy of Michael Clarke Duncan and it broke my heart when he passed.
I knew what Greg's reaction would be to The Green Mile would be as soon as I saw he chose it, to see someone with his empathy in todays broken world, is very heartwarming.
I'm not crying, I'm just exercising my face muscles
I've seen this movie plenty of time... and every time... I cry.
You are the sweetest reactor ever 😢 bless you. Such a heartbreaking film
